      +Jim Stoppani I dont get why you would want people to risk kidney failure for a bit of muscles and a bit of weight loss?
      At the very least, increase the proteins using beans/lentils/legumes and get pea/brown rice/hemp protein powders as they have been shown to not effect kidneys disease.

    I’ve been telling people for years that calories are an incredibly outdated way of measuring anything, much less food, and this video proves it with science to back. Thanks Jim lol I’ve always used the example of “the 2000 calorie a day diet”;
    If subject eats 2000 calories of table sugar a day for a whole year, they more than likely die, if not have the worst case of diabetes known to man.
    If subject eats 2000 calories a day of grilled chicken for a whole year, they would look and feel as if chiseled by the gods.
    Nutrients are far too complicated and has far too many responsibilities to be summed up across the board by a simplistic measurement such as a calorie. The numbers we have on macros are far more specific and precise, and should always be prioritized first over anything else.

    • @sawoop3856

    • @cameronnott7487
      @cameronnott7487 8 років тому

      Sawoop !! Well not necessarily, but if someone that doesn't lift tells me something and someone that's been lifting for 10,15, 20+ years tells me the opposite...then no, I'm not going to follow their advice ha.
      I can't stand trainers that have never seen the inside of a gym, but they get an online certificate and they think that their opinion carries more weight than everyone around them :/ I've seen alot of people get hurt that way

    • @sawoop3856
      @sawoop3856 8 років тому

      Cameron Nott but trainers shouldnt be telling people their opinions, but facts that they learned. Like what if a skinny guy told you to eat 4g/kg but then this buff dude told you he only eats 1.5g/kg does that automatically mean that the skinny one wrong? or better yet what if someone who is not only bigger but stronger and more experience then dr. stoppan tell you the opposite? Who would you listen too?

    • @cameronnott7487
      @cameronnott7487 8 років тому +2

      Sawoop !!
      I am just more inclined to listen to someone with street smarts and experience than someone with only book smarts. Not that I would just dismiss whatever the skinnier guy had to say, but yes, I would at least try the bigger guys method FIRST.
      And the reason I like Jim so much is because he has book smarts AND experience. Which is the best one to be. So if someone came along that was bigger, but didn't necessarily know WHY or WHAT made him bigger then I would still take Dr. Stoppani's advice.

    With all due respect, Dr. Jim Stoppani's foundational ideas and facts are sound in general but one thing in particular I disagree with and by the way, LICENSED doctors who have gone to medical school for years, studying the human body say that for an individual who does intense weight training 5-7 times a week, does not need anything more than 0.7 grams of protein per pound of body weight. I've tried it myself and it's worked wonders for me. 0.8g is the ceiling and that's the amount professional athletes like NFL players consume because they usually train multiple times each day and are punishing their bodies and so, need that much. Anything more that you take is just punishing your kidneys and being excreted out of your body. If you train only 3-4 times a week, you can bump it down to 0.6 grams . Again, remember to do your own research. Make that bag/tub of protein powder last longer and save big time on your grocery bills. Make sure the protein you purchase is being used up by your body as much as possible rather than it heading straight down the toilet.

    Great advice! On a side note, I know you mention intermittent fasting quite a bit. Do you recommend doing intermittent fasting during your six weeks to shred program, for example skipping the eggs and scoop of whey protein in the morning and pushing it to later in the day? And if so, how would you go about it? Thanks a ton for all of your advice. I dropped 20 pounds on my first run through your shred program and I plan on cycling through again!

    • @trinithr2462
      @trinithr2462 9 років тому

      Thanks for the links, I have indeed read both but given my circumstances I can only have whey protein as a supplement. I'm a high school senior on the verge of heading to university, and I do not have my own job at the moment because my parents want me to focus on my education rather than working. I am also vegetarian 😂. So, I even find it hard to get to 1.5 grams per pound of body weight of protein. Again, it's a thing my parents force upon me as long as I am in the house. So I try to make do with what I got: paneer, tofu, egg whites, Greek yogurt, and cottage cheese. I also get my casein from geek yogurt/cottage cheese. I am fully aware that I need more supplements like a pre-workout and casein protein for the best results, but I'm trying to make do with what I have. Thanks for your advice and concern though doc, I really appreciate it. Regarding "slowing down" my intermittent fasting as you suggested, I am assuming you mean implementing it slowly like around week 2 or 3?

      I read article about slowing down my carb reduction from my diet in order to prevent a platue, but my carbs are low now around the .5 mark. Do you recommend starting back at 1.5 grams of carbs to recycle my metabolism and start the shred again. Because I know for a fact that I have hit another platue in that I'm stuck at 155 pounds, and I really want to break it without starving myself in ketosis as you recommend i stay away from. I simply hope raising my carbs up a bit for a week will break the platue. Phew, I've written a lot. I'm sorry doc, I'm just a confused teenager haha 😂. Thanks for all your help and support!

    • @trinithr2462
      @trinithr2462 9 років тому

      O yea, and I forgot to mention: if it isn't implied my parents do at least purchase whey protein for myself. I also have fish oil, a multi vitamin, green tea, and black coffee. I get casein through my dairy products. Haha, sorry for hitting you with so much to read!

    • @trinithr2462
      @trinithr2462 9 років тому

      I'm just worried that if I go back to 1.5 grams of carbs for the 1st week, I'll gain some fat back that I worked so hard to lose even if it's just for one week. This is because I'll be above maintenance. This makes sense for those just starting the program, but given that I have already gone through it once, I'm more tempted to go back to pound per body weight for carbs. I plan on doing that for 3 weeks, And then .5 grams for the next 3 weeks for the sake of breaking my platue. Does this seem logical?

    I'm willing to believe what he's saying....but I can find no research supporting his position and Jim didn't put a link to his cited research. I have a master's in exercise physiology and have worked in the industry for 10+ years. If you can cite any research article that supports 1.5g/lb/d of protein (and not Xg/kg/d) I'll concede and happily accept the science. Until then, perhaps be skeptical of anecdotal evidence and a man telling you to eat 2x the amount of protein than any research in the world supports while HE is the one selling you said protein. :)

    Many bodybuilders in the 'Golden Era' had no business in shilling for Supplement companies and many of them (taking no more than dbol) advocated 1g - 1.5g per KG of bodyweight and they did JUST fine.
    Now maintaining muscle mass whilst cutting is where it helps to up the protein to 1g per Ib of bodyweight, natural lifters that is.
    300g protein for a 200Ib guy............hahahaha, oh dear.

    • @stutrol
      @stutrol 8 років тому

      Hi Fran ,
      No I did mean kg and not Ibs .
      It's overhyped marketed enforced over consumption .
      High protein has its benefits in terms of keeping ful, appetite control .... But to gain muscle ?
      All the literature and data currently says any more than 1g per kg is a waste for 'muscle building purposes' .... Only time a higher protein intake wil benefit muscle is preserving whilst cutting .

    • @stutrol
      @stutrol 8 років тому

      I am not going to discuss this back and forth , good and look at the 'viable' studies in athletes and bodybuilders, there are no recorded muscle building benefits from consuming anymore than 1 - 1.5g per KG of body weight ..... For muscle growth repair.

    • @allenwalker9284

      That's only 12 total grams. You need to use a macro calculator or figure out your macros. Example: If you weigh 200 pounds and want to eat 1.5 grams per pound, you should consume about 300 grams of lean protein a day.

    Hey Democrats, why is literally just about everything "racist" to you? Do you realize there are other far more serious problems in the world than perceived "racism"? Do you realize that nobody talked nearly this much about racism in the 1970s-1990s and everyone got along? Why do you let media tell you what's important and how to think?

    A PhD really shouldn't quote Bro Science I got 19 sec's in & face palmed, No Scientist would measure grams against Ilb's one is clearly the metric system & the other is clearly the imperial system. Pick one either grams & kilograms or I'lb's & ounces.

    If you eat one large meal a day or just breakfast and then a large meal in the evening.
    Increasing calorie intake and spreading them over the day with 3 meals and snacks in between = Increased Metabolism.
    I lose weight when I eat more calories spread around the clock, staying in a constant fed mode.
    From what I have heard Arnie say about his meals, he found this out like me.
    My water intake during the day is between 4litres-7litres .... I drink nothing else other than my protein shakes.

    I weigh 220 lbs and I have a hard time getting 200g of protein. I can't imagine getting 300g+. I don't know how people do it. Only thing I can think of is washing all my meals down with a protein shake lol.

      Dude its so easy, just take (as this idiot recommends here) 4 Shakes a day, you will feel bloated as fuck, you will feel shitty as never bevor, and oh,.. how nice, you will pay a fuckton of money into his wallet.
      Please stop this shit, 1.2-1.5g/kg bodyweight is enough, no need for all this pre/post watever supplement shit.

    • @eaumand

      +StereoTP95 you sound mad. Not sure why you would bash him when you just gave the same advice lol. You just recommended 1.5g / lb of bodyweight. Did you even watch the video??? Hahaha that is funny shit . Hey dont do what Jim says do what I say... LOL WHO ARE YOU. Where is your PHD. What are your credentials and why the hell would you recommend the SAME quantity that the guy you just called an idiot recommends? MIC DROP.

      +Socio That's kind of the point. You, like most people will need to buy supplements to meet these recommended protein numbers. Or you could eat 37.5oz of steak to get 300g of protein. Now I wonder who around here sells protein supplements?

    • @pjw4125
      @pjw4125 8 років тому

      +Dr. Hoarse Singer Ph.D I'm done buying protein supplements. I only buy Preworkout because I workout early in the morning. it makes me get unwanted body acne anyways.
