Parker Brothers originally made Escape from Colditz in the UK ... by far my favourite Parker Brothers game. I remember getting it for Christmas in 1973!

I'm surprised Careers didn't make the list; as far as roll-and-move games go it was pretty innovative, and I still enjoy playing it.

I grew up playing Boggle. I think it's still fun to play, but as a parent I appreciate it even more now for its educational value.

I really liked Full House growing up, the artwork and theme really appealed to me as a child. My parents won all of the published MB and PB games in a TV game show pilot in the early 70’s...Can’t Stop, Pit, Payday were played often. That and growing up in the snowed in Yukon are probably why my siblings and I are big gamers to this day. There was also an oil drilling game that was quite fun. Masterpiece is also another great early 70’s game.

And don’t forget the Atari 2600 games made by Parker Brothers/Hasbro including “Star Wars: The Arcade Gamelx “Star Wars: Jedi Arena”, “Return of the Jedi: Death Star Battle”, “Q-Bert”, “Frogger”, “Frogger 2”, “Popeye”, “Strawberry Shortcake Musical Matchups” and so many more under the Parker Brothers name where it ran from 1982 through 1983 when the Video Game Crash happened.

Definitely a hard list to make:
    1. Balderdash: My 20th favorite game and my favorite party game. I remember when I was introduced to this game at a small church social gathering. I fell in love with the game right away and had to buy it. It's been a hit ever since. We play Beyond Balderdash now, which is the new Balderdash.
    2. Can't Stop: This is not on my top 100 but is a good filler game. I was introduced to it at my meetup. I recently found a copy at a thrift store for 50 cents so now have introduced it to my wife and she loves it. Fun game.
    3. Mille Bornes: I grew up with this game with my family and played it in French class. About 10 years ago I played a lot of this on my computer. Great game.
    4. Pit: another game I grew up with. My Mom still has the original game we played. I have found a fan made retheme of it with Super Mario and had it printed at Artscow. We have played this a couple of times at our family gatherings.
    5. Don't Go to Jail (Monopoly Express): a dice Monopoly game. A friend of mine had it, whom I don't see any more but someone at my meetup brought it, but hadn't played it, so I taught it to them. A simple but kind of fun filler game.
    6. Stratego: I also prefer Lord of the Rings Stratego, but rarely play either now. Both were a big hit for me, especially during my time in the Navy.
    7. Free Parking: A Monopoly card game. A somewhat fun game but the downside is that in the game someone can take over your "tableau" and while there is a card to stop it, you may not have it in hand.
    8. Sorry: this is on the list for the simple fact I played the computer version with adult friends for awhile almost 20 years ago, and it was fun. There were of coarse variants in the computer version the board game version did not have.
    9. Trivial Pursuit: The Lord of the Rings Movie Trilogy Collector's Edition: I was a LoR fan & when the films came out I bought several LoR board games, before being a board game hobbyist, including this one. I played this once in a rather large group with my friends one time, and one time only. We had fun. I had more knowledge than everyone so it was unbalanced but it was memorable and fun for almost everyone.
    10. Risk: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Edition: I am not a Risk fan. You can twist my arm to play, and I will. I preferred playing computer versions over the years as its much faster. And this version is one I bought amongst the other LoR games I did at the time. I played this 1 or 2 times. I gave it away about a year ago. Not worth any money.

It has separate entries at BGG. I have never played Monopoly Deal but the description at BGG is not anything like Free Parking. In Free Parking you have a meter and you feed it "time" from cards.

Have to go back and rewatch the beginning because I saw comments of Monopoly and Boggle.. THOSE we made and even played on the lines.. each worker got a game with a gold Uncle Penny Bags token with a numbered box for authenticity.

Yahtzee Free for all 2008-Hasbro, Can't Stop was originally done in 1980 at Parker facility (before I was there) but was re-released by another company years later

It was created by Laura Robinson and Paul Toyne of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The game was first released in 1984 under Canada Games. It was later picked up by a U.S company, The Games Gang, and eventually became the property of Hasbro and finally Mattel. The game has sold over 15 million copies worldwide to date... That is Balderdash.. lol

    No Scotland Yard?
Tom mentions the game, but it wasn't on his list. It was originally released in the States by Parker Brothers in 1985, but for some time now, Ravensburger has published it here (who happens to be the original publisher of the game, first in Europe) .

Synthful Dwarphus , I agree. I got the Parker Brothers version of Scotland Yard in 1986 as a kid and it's still in good condition. I credit this game as the one that got me into gaming. Beautiful map.

    • @ShallRemainUnknown
      @ShallRemainUnknown 7 років тому

Mark Papenfuss The Ravensburger editions (from the very beginning) had more practical player pawns, since the plastic was transparent and you could see through them to the stop numbers on the board (Parker Bros version had frosted pawns). Great game, either way, still enjoy it, although players who tend to "AP" (Analysis paralysis, i.e. over-analyzation) can make for a LONG game. Some recent Ravensburger editions switched to a nighttime themed board, but it was harder to read. (Think current edition is back to daytime board.)
The games Fury of Dracula and Letters from Whitechapel are more modern incarnations of the Scotland Yard system. Haven't tried them yet.
      Happy gaming!

Clue: the Great Museum Caper was the best 1 vs All that I've played with my family. Easily up there with Great Games w/ Horrible Themes. Because yeah, Parker Brothers, let's have all 6 rivals team up for some reason to stop a thief, one of which should be serving a prison sentence (the in manual theming bills it as a SEQUEL to Clue(do)

Hasbro bought out Parker Brothers at the Same time as as Milton Bradley and Fisher Price and Milton Bradley back in 1992 or 1993..I forget when the layoffs began.. but I ran Nerf til the very end June 1994.. there were only a handful of us left at that time.. Rollercoaster Tycoon.. is Hasbo.. never made in Salem Ma.. by then it was already condos. Any "board" game manufacturing was done by the newly acquired Milton Bradley in Springfield Ma. AFTER 1995 was ACTUALLY Hasbro.

Where's Scrabble??? Or Boggle. Maybe Tom hates word games :)
Two I would add to any list:
    - Careers. Criminally under-appreciated game
    - Hey PA! There's a Goat on the Roof. Probably about as bad a game as they come, but the name along makes it top-10 worthy.

Scrabble was originally marketed by Selchow and Richter. It wasn't until a lot later that Parker Brothers purchased the rights to manufacture and market it.
