I was there... I spent 8 straight days hovering in a 230 Sqn Puma above a splash target in the Moray firth. I was using a very early black and white video recorder. Fair to say the results were patchy!
fanatsic vid, used to love watching F-111F's flying out of Lakenheath & F-111E's out of Upper Heyford, luckily the 20 TFW commanders F-111 is beautifully preserved on display at the IWM Duxford
Great videos, love seeing all the greats especially the Bucs & Jags. If I remember correctly only the best pilots were chosen for the Jaguar as those guys really needed to know not only how to fly but again I’ve heard the multi tasking they had to do at just 80ft above the ground was unreal plus to excell at all the multiple roles the jag played. Thanks 🙏 for uploading
I was there on One line, of 226 OCU, the A7's were outside our hangar, they were ex Vietnam aircraft, and were a bit weather beaten to say the least, lots of stop drilled cracks in the flaps etc. One of the Buc's was in our hangar one night, first time i got a look close up, built like a brick outhouse!
lol.....remember an A7 landing with an emergency at Lossie in 76. It lost a flap on take-off from its carrier and diverted to us in VASF. The corrosion on the aircraft was rife!
I recall the A7 crews being wowed by the RAF Jaguar NAVWASS. They were using some pretty elementary (even then) weapon aiming systems in their aircraft. In the end, they won the competition and wiped the floor with the Jags, Buccaneers and F1-111’s. It was a great competition. There was almost a disaster on the last day of the run-up to the competition. A Shackleton from 8 Sqn almost tangled with an F1-111 in the circuit. It was unpublicised at the time, with blame - unfairly - going to ATC.
@@thephantom2man my bad .. you are right.. guess I was in a hurry to troll and missed them.😂 Ironically the Bucc is one of my favorite aircraft of all time.
I don’t hold the F111 personally responsible but they were definitely leverage in the cancellation of TSR2,the Buccaneers looked great in this livery...👍
Well, lots of suspicion as the TSR 2 was a direct competitor to their F111 PLUS, the Americans had form at paying for success in cash filled brown envelopes. look how they managed to fiddle the F104 Starfighter to be taken up by NATO.
Please could someone identify the two at 4:52. I'm struggling to work out what has a twin boom and a scaffold board for a wing (apart from an Edgley Optica :-) )
Too early for an Optica - I think perhaps a Bronco OV-10 although I don’t recall the being there or them being part of the USAF in the UK - I think Spangdahlem may have had them in the 1970s
Rockwell flew this plane two years before the merger of the two companies in 1967. Was always confused as to why I would see this plane listed with two different manufactures.
I know I can just turn down the volume, but please music is so subjective and can really kill a good video. Even just random jet noise would be more appropriate.

I was there then. Worked in JASF. Before that, I worked in the VASF section on all those different types. Fantastic times.

Superb - History in the air. Nothing like this flies anymore.
Great footage of the F-111's our family did two tours of Upper Heyford
Husband had two tours there too, 1977-1983 and 1987 to 1991.
@@paulinejirinec8528 we were 74-76 & 79-81
You know, I come to your videos as much to hear what cracking songs that you’ve chosen as much as to see the aircraft footage!
Never disappointed !
bugler75 you made my day! Your comment is much appreciated.
@@foxonefour 😊😊😊 no problem and thanks for replying 😊
I was there as a member of the 20TFW F-111E team. Bomb-Nav.

Oh for a time machine! The old saying you never appreciate what you've got til it's gone comes to mind watching this...
Just fantastically good along with a pretty good sound track!
Thank you for posting

Makes a change for the US to beat the RAF then.
Saw some A7s over the Scottish Borders when I was about 10, so 1985 ish. Saw plenty jets but they were very rare to see!
Back when the British aviation industry was still something to be proud of. Great film with a great soundtrack. Well done.
British aviation industry..where? F-111 , A-7 and Jaguar? Jaguar is only half British .. the others are American.
@@guaporeturns9472 those buccaneers sure as shit were british

Great to see this, thanks.
The glory days at Lossiemouth
Ahh, yes.. favourite watering holes, the Coulard, The Skerrie Brae and the Rock House. Happy days indeed.
As a former Royal Navy pilot once told us : « I joined the RN in ‘77, when flying was dangerous and sex was safe ».
Great cine work. Amazing!
nice footage cheers
I was there. 23rd TFW. Engine shop.
Boys are back in town !!!!!
Ahh the days when camo was camo not just the boring grays of today nice to see the old timers
17 Sqn Jaguars - nice!!
Is Lossiemouth frequency 119.350, is that still in use.
