I used to listen to Sports or Consequences every day that I could growing up in Columbus. Loved Gary. Neat to see Seg, Andy Mac and Collinsworth in the studio.

Thank you so much for sharing this guy.. I remember him on whas radio in Louisville. I usually laughed all the way home from work. I would have loved to have met his frequent callers to the show. Uniece and Berniece

Wow, this brings back the memories! My father used to listen to Gary Burbank on 700 WLW, Cincinnati, with Earl Pitts, Sports or Consequences, the Senseless Surveys - I haven't heard him in years... hell of an entertainer!

He retired in 2007 after 26 years at WLW. His radio career went back to the mid 1960s, though. He joined WLW in 1981. A lot of his comedy bits will be uploaded to a digital platform next year, though. His Earl Pitts routine is officially retiring this year. The character debuted in 1986 on Gary's WLW show. After Gary retired in 2007 new Earl Pitts commentaries continued airing...but news broke this week that Gary completed his final Earl Pitts recordings which will air through the rest of this year and early into 2021...bringing a close to 35 years of commentaries. Older commentaries from Earl will continue to be broadcast, though...but there won't be anymore new ones recorded. Gary put out a book called 'Voices in My Head'.

If memory serves, my first helping of Burbank was when he was at WNOE, New Orleans. Brilliantly funny and creative as hell.

This segment aired during the 4pm-4:30pm half hour. It served as a bridge for both halves of his then 4 hour radio program (2-6pm). During the program's first 90 minutes there'd be comedy bits interspersed at various moments throughout...then came the Sports or Consequences program. After that, the remaining 90 minutes (4:30-6pm), the comedy bits that aired earlier in the program re-played for the listeners making their way home from work. For a number of years, for those that missed his program entirely or more likely wanted to hear the comical bits again, the Cincinnati radio station he appeared on aired a Saturday morning clip-fest called "The Burbank Saturday Morning Cartoons" from 6am to 12pm in which all of the comedy bits from the previous week aired (often 6 per hour, sandwiched between songs and news breaks). I may have actually been listening to this installment of the Sports game because 1991 is the year I 'discovered' Gary Burbank via a relative that had told me about him. In the studio are Gary, Kevin "Doc" Wolfe, Bill "Seg" Dennison, Andy McWilliams, Cris Collinsworth, and the staff of a local restaurant. The sports program often had food brought in from area restaurants during the half hour sports program. Cris used to host the SportsTalk program that aired after Gary's show. Andy Furman later joined Cris as co-host and eventually Cris vacated radio for a further career in television. Interestingly, Cris had inherited the SportsTalk program from Bob Trumpy (another former Bengal), who had hosted it from it's beginning in 1980.

I grew up listening to Gary. There were so many classic bits. They sold Sports or Consequences shirts. I had a long-sleeved version.

Came to know Gary first in 1969 at WAKY (The Big 79) in Louisville, Ky. One of my favorite characters was Wonder Mother. Rufus Thomas came by & visited Mother one afternoon. The two of them...so funny. Mother was fearless, speaking her mind, no matter what. Garrish, you should know, I'm turning more & more into Mother with every passing year. Ha!!
Thanks for everything, my friend. Elizabeth "Betty" B.

I was so happy in the early part of the century when XM (it wasn’t Sirius at the time) picked up 700 WLW. All of a sudden I could have The Big One wherever I was in North America. Then one day it was just unceremoniously dropped. Oh well, sat radio has sort of come and gone. It’s not nearly as cool as it used to be. Podcasts rule now.

On the weekend GARY BURBANKS' REARVIEW, the show's end theme was a pretty piece of fiddle music that has haunted me for years. Can anybody tell me what it was called and who performed it?

At first, I thought it was minutiae. Later googled. Turns out Mr. Cub and number 32 for the Bills are second cousins. If only Gary and company had the internet back in the day.

I hate to break it to the "sufficianados", but Ernie Banks was indeed a second cousin of OJ Simpson.

I miss the BBC, and this part of the daily program. By the way, Ernie Banks was, in fact, a cousin of OJ Simpson.
