ORD in the 1990s was spectacular in its domination. But it has never been the same in the post 9/11, regional jet, industry consolidation era of the 2000s. And thus been passed up by ATL as Delta’s presence dwarfs United and American today. But in the 1990s (and ‘80s for that matter) it was a different story. Great nostalgic video of a better time.
I'm certain O'Hare airport is busier now than it was back then. it's just not the busiest in the world. Air traffic has grown everywhere. and Atlanta isn't as much of a final destination as it is a super hub for Delta. O'Hare has recently regained its title back as busiest airport in the US. as far as aircraft movement.
O'Hare is much bigger now. And still one of the busiest in the world. I grew up here and I'm still amazed at how huge the airport is. And of course the gate is always on the opposite side of the airport. I'm just thankful I don't have to switch planes there. That would be awful!
Atlanta's Hartsfield International is the world's busiest airport in both numbers of passengers and aircraft movements since the late 1990's. In any case, enjoyed the video....thanks.
Maybe you should do some research First Dubai is the third busiest airport in the world behind Atlanta and Beijing and only became the third busiest airport in the world in 2014
ATL is the busiest in terms of passengers while ORD is sixth. ATL and ORD trade off as busiest in terms of take offs and landings depending on the year.
Get this Chicago O’Hare International Airport now has 8 runways they just recently added runway 9C 27C and now they’re trying to expand International Terminal 5 the O’Hare Transit has been updated Metra and CTA blue line trains still run daily and now adding route 390 and 490 which is the Elgin O’Hare expressway. Southwest Airlines is now at O’Hare at Terminal 5 3 gates though. But United still has Terminals 1 and 2 and American has Terminal 3
Depends on how you are measuring it, it is the 4th busiest in the world by passenger craft (2019), But you must also remember, O here is also the most busiest cargo airports in the world, So when you combine its cargo aircraft and passenger aircraft, it sees more planes taking off and landing then any other airport by a long shot. In comparison Atlanta's Hartsfield Jackson, only carries passengers.
@@truthfacts5438 Memphis is the world's busiest cargo airport followed by Hong Kong, Shanghai, Anchorage and Louisville. Chicago's O"Hare doesn't even rank among the top 10. what a trip down memory lane...DC-10s, 727s, even B1900s! none of those have landed at ORD in years. Whoever did this video, should do an update

So will the MD-11
Beautiful video and airport. I've been there one week ago. I've played the piano :) beautiful America. Goodbye from a Italy :)

727 is my favorite aircraft
Shame to see its gone
The 2018 passenger statistics had ATL #1 107,394,029 LAX #2 87,534,384 ORD #3 83,245,472.
Looks like the 90s

@google user That's exactly what I was thinking, late 90's early 2000's ish.

At the beginning it’s a DC-10!

was O'hare. Now Its Atlanta
Sadly.
When was this made? Gotta be the late 1990’s
It was made prior to 1998, the year Atlanta overtook O'Hare as the world's busiest. It's been #1 ever since.

Actually for a few days during the year the Oshkosh Airport (Wittman Regional) becomes the worlds busiest when they have their air show there.
No not since 98. It’s right here when OHare was still the busiest. It’s still way at the top today and only behind Hartsfield in passengers.

This documentary was made in the early 1990s
@shamu636 I got it off a disk called "BIG STUFF" google it.
Anyone know what year this was filmed?
I think it covers the 70’s 80’s and 90’s.
considwring the 727's and dc-10's and old liveries this video is old af
It is 8 runways now
Yeah. More than any other airport on earth
Greatest sight of all at 3:50. 747 taking off.
This must be REALLY old. ATL passed ORD at least 15 years ago for the world's busiest airport. ORD has fallen to fifth busiest in 2012.

Atlanta..My home litteraly.well south of it
O'hare is not the busiest airport in the world, but Atlanta.
warrior5502 Back at the time this was recorded it probably was.
Agree

Pete Salmon, a true legend...
I flew through o'hare and it was not very bust
KATL- laughs in Spanish voice.
Lol I’ve been to o’hare before
It USED to be NUMBER ONE, unfortunately, Atlanta has taken that title
O'Hare what a joke.
Kennedy Airport is busy more than O’Hare and Atlanta international airport has more flights

O hare is a nasty airport
Not the busiest airport in the world
Ok genius, it was at the time of the making of the video. Genius.
