" I suppose I better get on with it....." Yeah I think you did just that old man. Glad you made it home....RIP and a salute from an old Navy vet from across the pond. ✌🏻🇱🇷
Footballer's? Celebrity's? dont make me laugh, these guy's are the real stars of this country and always will be, I am 51 years of age, but still 25 inside, proud my son of 15 who is into computers, skate boarding, and band's know's the importance of these chap's, in his word's, "They were so brave dad, I can't imagine what it must have been like to go into aerial combat at just 19" it's a shame more of my friend's dont know about them" one thing's for sure, we will never see their like again.
I take my hat off to you, Real men like you make the Real men of today, thank you for fighting for our freedom and our country you will never be forgotten ❤️
At the beginning of eighties I spent two and half years in London. I felt that I was just in my element when I came across all those subjects about WWII, like films, museums, books and beside all that, to have the unique opportunity to chat with a few war veterans and be able to listen to their stories, like the one of this fellow. Those guys lived through a “memorable time”. All my respect.
So many of these guys have incredible stories to tell. I've listened and spoken to many who have enlightened my aviation with a smile. Their experiences and exploits to be amazed and admired. I feel privileged.
What’s that? Never flown before, a fitter eh? You know the form then. Sit in that one. Take her up for a bump and grind round the circuit. Wow! Amazing man and a hero. Full respect sent to you sir. 👏👍
So enjoyable to hear a testimony of a man’s scramble to survive and his prevailing victory. Epic!!! So much to learn from this mans courage and initiative.
Whether they fought in the skies or died in the gas chambers, they are all heroes. These pilots had and still have an incredible tale to tell, one of unimaginable bravery and fortitude defending their country, but I do not doubt that the footballers and pop stars of today's generation would show the same mettle again if required. It is the duty of every parent to ensure that our children know and understand the huge sacrifice our predecessors made, to ensure that their memory lives for ever.
I get so annoyed when they call sports people hero's. These guys are the real Hero's. So young and so brave to get into planes and go into combat. The few are owed so much.
Ha ha. The Lord Commanded, "Thou Shalt Not Kill" and the man you are praising broke that solemn Commandment so he's not been "united with the Lord" has he, you fucking idiot?
@@caveatrotters3324 The Lord allows you to defend yourself. And he was defending his country from the Nazi's who were killing his people. He had every right to fight back and kill the Nazis. You fucking idiot.
Well, that certainly was one hell of a first flight in a Hurricane! Not sure why he was doing his first flight at Biggin Hill, which was an operational base? He should have been doing his first flight at a training base. Then again some funny shit went on in the lead up to and during the BoB.
What a opportunity "when you feel ok about it take it for a spin" l guess there maybe a large price in the end. I can relate in a small way I've said a few times "l can run that" got in,ok game time figure it out quick.
So not long after almost crash landing on his first flight in a Hawker Hurricane, in the 2nd of the 4th month of the Battle of Britain, he engages the enemy that has been perfecting its tactics for 5 years.
No, not loose in the cockpit! He meant that by not being told that he had to lock the instruments (Artificial Horizon, Gyro Compass Turn & Slip etc.) before performing aerobatics, he had "toppled" their internal gyroscopes - so they'd ceased to function.

The Battle of Britain was completely irrelevant as Hitler never intended to invade the UK. As soon as Stalin broke the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact on 28 June 1940 the OKW began preparing for Barbarossa.

Total respect for this man and everything that he represents
Genocide?
Remarkable zest for life! He was in his 90's in this interview, 97 when he died.
He is so full of life, so fast thinking, so enthusiastic - and in his 90's!!!
This man brought tears and a smile to my eyes. I bet he was good fun in the crew room too!

A wonderful man who I met many times. I collect WW2 pilot signatures and they are becoming quiet collectable as these true heros die of old age.

Only the Allies used gas chambers.
must admit when i clicked this video i thought hed be boaring like most old people but man he is a great story teller
Well, hopefully you have learned that it is never clever to dismiss people because they are old. If so, good. It will stand you well in your life.

What an amazing character - I bet the Germans were crapp@#& themselves when he was airborne.
Glad he started his loop high 😜

The instruments weren't fastened down to the panel? And he neglected to also inform the commanding officer that too at the time?

Yes if it wasn't for these guys we would be speaking German , true heroes.
No, but their sacrifice sure is worth something.
