    Footballer's? Celebrity's? dont make me laugh, these guy's are the real stars of this country and always will be, I am 51 years of age, but still 25 inside, proud my son of 15 who is into computers, skate boarding, and band's know's the importance of these chap's, in his word's, "They were so brave dad, I can't imagine what it must have been like to go into aerial combat at just 19" it's a shame more of my friend's dont know about them" one thing's for sure, we will never see their like again.

    At the beginning of eighties I spent two
    and half years in London. I felt that I was just in my element when I came across all those subjects about WWII, like films, museums, books and beside all that, to have
    the unique opportunity to chat with a few war veterans and be able to listen to
    their stories, like the one of this fellow. Those guys lived through a “memorable
    time”. All my respect.

    Whether they fought in the skies or died in the gas chambers, they are all heroes. These pilots had and still have an incredible tale to tell, one of unimaginable bravery and fortitude defending their country, but I do not doubt that the footballers and pop stars of today's generation would show the same mettle again if required. It is the duty of every parent to ensure that our children know and understand the huge sacrifice our predecessors made, to ensure that their memory lives for ever.

    Well, that certainly was one hell of a first flight in a Hurricane! Not sure why he was doing his first flight at Biggin Hill, which was an operational base? He should have been doing his first flight at a training base. Then again some funny shit went on in the lead up to and during the BoB.

    The instruments weren't fastened down to the panel? And he neglected to also inform the commanding officer that too at the time?

    • @flat5sharp11
      @flat5sharp11 7 років тому +3

      No, not loose in the cockpit! He meant that by not being told that he had to lock the instruments (Artificial Horizon, Gyro Compass Turn & Slip etc.) before performing aerobatics, he had "toppled" their internal gyroscopes - so they'd ceased to function.

    The Battle of Britain was completely irrelevant as Hitler never intended to invade the UK. As soon as Stalin broke the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact on 28 June 1940 the OKW began preparing for Barbarossa.
