Nitpicky request: put the course title in the UA-cam video title (currently it just says "1. 14.13 Introduction and Overview" which isn't very informative when it appears in YT recommendations.)
Extremely Valuable Course offered by MIT OCW, It's something everyone shall do just so you understand the behavior of people around you. Look around, there is a lot of application that are manipulating your behavior. Thank you OCW for this material.
If you choose to distract yourself with your laptop during the class have become the choice you choose . I see it like not been disciplined , lack of self control .
As an undergrad BA Econ Major back in 1980 and MBA Econ Finance 1988, when Behav Econ was not even invented this course is so well received. Thank you so much. What are the core texts again for this course?
There are no textbooks for this course, but there are required readings. See the Readings for more info at: ocw.mit.edu/courses/14-13-psychology-and-economics-spring-2020/pages/readings/. Best wishes on your studies!
I'm playing Quake while listening to this lecture. Actually that is my main studying mode listening to lectures while playing games Quake, Mordhau. I'm convinced that Quake uses part of my brain that I don't need for studying. The lizard part idk. Also It would be fun if they vote for laptop policy irl but this isn't a politics class tho.
From the syllabus, "There is no textbook for this course. The fairly detailed lecture slides are meant to be self-explanatory, and they are complemented by recitation notes as well as by a set of readings for each class, as specified in the reading list." See the course material on MIT OpenCourseWare for more info at: ocw.mit.edu/14-13S20. Best wishes on your studies!
Y"all really really need more descriptive video titles. At least give us some idea of what the topic is, especially in the title of the first one of the course!
Agreed. We keep requesting that the course content owners avoid using simple titles like this. 😩 We have added the course name to the title. Thanks for your note!
One counterexample: Some people weigh today's happiness as 100 and tomorrow's as 0; While as I have seen in China, a lot of senior students consider their joy after the undergraduate entrance exam a much higher score than the joy before the entrance exam
I think it is bearable. Because our instructor said " and again" 41 times in 5 minutes. I am definitely not exaggerating. I was about to commit suicide.
I really cringe when students say: "They behave with irrational and logical thoughts..." instead of saying "We humans behave irrational and justify with logical thoughts". Those students think they're aliens or something?
Humans are subject of a study. The goal is to be conscious about biases, thereof you disassociate with the symptom. People tend to turn their heads away from the punch and close eyes, THEY tend to have a lazy jab - but you - you shouldn't. Maybe this is the reason?
I think you're right. If I say, "Humans are often irrational with unstable preferences" I need to know that I'm included in that criticism. Can't identify personal bias without self-awareness.
Great lectures sir. Thanks MIT. Please, this is a random question and I’d be pleased if I get answers from anyone. Is behavioral economics a good career path for a professional trader?
Next class is how to use fork and knife to eat foie gras , a long introductory class of 10 hours cause the subject matter demands it, we will start with the relationship between poverty and foie gras . I enjoyed skipping through this lecture a lot.
very unteresting but the 'erm ah' is very off putting

Yeah. I totally agree. They should put psychology and economics on the top.
Wow they actually changed it, pretty cool
Without your request I may have not found this video!

For those interested read Thaler's Nudge , Misbehaving or Paul K's Thinking Fast and Slow or Aryl's Predictably Irrational.
Dude it's the introduction of the class, it's like your first day of school...where you see nothing and you say who you are.
🙏🏻 Thank you guys. Are we going to have the entire playlist for this one? Pretty please!
Check out the description
The full playlist is in the description, with all episodes uploaded!
OMG the whole playlist.
It's like reading Kahneman a fourth time. 🥳🥳🥳🥳

Resource constraints are not in our minds.
says note taking for 45 minute , ask student reason why one would use laptop "taking note" LOL
that one should have taken note last 45 minute ;D
Easy

I don't think you need to be an expert at behavioural economics to be a good trader.
如果你真的想当交易者,最主要要学混沌理论,复杂系统,分形,反身性。
One of priciple of macro economic: incentives influence people's behavior.
