@josephithink : About 95% here is improv. The one line refrain which the artiste returns too is only meant as a baseline melody (usually the composition itself seldom exceeds 4 pre-composed melodic lines). Everything else is extempore, revealing the creativity, the comfort with the raaga, and mathematical dexterity. Hope that helps.

@xxlightwinds : Mathematics has much to do with coming to the refrain at a particular beat (often the 1st beat in a time cycle, but changes) -- Different patterns of notes (vocal or instrumental) or patterns of beats (percussion), some pre-composed, but a lot improvised add to the richness of our music. To get a feeling for the mathematics involved, you may want to look for clips on percussion to start -- try Henrik Anderson/pete lockett/konakkol (to get western perspectives). Good luck.

Ni_ Dha Pa Dha Sa, is a typical Jhinjhoti. Though he is mixing it with Des and Tilak kamod phrases. Only masters of his caliber can do it with ease.

Yes. He is using both NI, but Jhinjoti also uses tivre ni though sparingly.In fact, He is playing opening phrase a song sung by Ustad Rashid khan in film Jab We Met. Aoge jab tum to sajana, angana phool ( not fool like Adam) khilenge .a combi of Des, Tilakkamod and jhonzoti

i am willing to concede that my conclusion of this raaga being tilak kamod may be wrong, but kanta deepak desai your attitude that drove you to comment- "dont you know that you know nothing" really irks me irrespective of it being directed at somebody else. you could have objected in a better way.
K Bhai. There's no such note as Tivre Ni, it's shuddha Ni or Komal Ni. The only tivre is Ma with just SA & PA having NO variation.
