Thank you Fergus. I have watch the video, it was help me to be more clear with how to teach reading. It is very clear! Thnks for taking time and help us!
I did my CELTA with Fergus and now I'm teaching my EAP students to predict, skim for gist & scan for specifics. They find the concepts really helpful! Thank you, Fergus. :)

Great Video, very useful....during the course .. I couldn't get the real meaning of Activate Schemata ..but know I got it... another thing I missed on the course was Writing Skills would that be a good one for a video?
Hollo! I'd like to add something you did not mention in your tutorials: listening and reading skills, which is the pre-while and after activities regarding those skills. They are very important!
thanks for the comment Luisina Ghibaduo , however if you watch the video more carefully you will see that I do cover those aspects: check it out from 5:47 ua-cam.com/video/j5VXBWwDFR8/v-deo.htmlm47s

I don't see how activating schemata (what a learner already knows) helps to learn new vocabulary, though. It may only be a confidence booster for learners.
Not sure all these technical terms are necessary but anyway. I just wanted to say that working in pair can be interesting sometimes but sometimes it is not. I studied English in Malta for more than 5 months and we had to work in pairs a loooooooot. The issues are : - you might be in pair with a student who don't care about learning for any "good" reason ; - it might happen than the other student speaks about something else… or both cause the subject is boring ; - you may be in pair with another student who doesn't have the required level and it is very boring (Once I was with a woman who could hardly speak English and we were in a B2 level group so it is not normal but one can't do anything about that, she finally changed but still I had to loose my time with her for a week)… So yes working it pair can be great but when we have to do it for almost each lesson it is not.

"schema"/"schemata" is a good word. Not sure who first used it in a linguistics/pedagogical context. ( It's pronounced /'ski:m ə t ə / )
I don't see how activating schemata (what a learner already knows) helps to learn new vocabulary, though. It may only be a confidence booster for learners.
where the vocab is presented in a text, activating the learners' schemata could aid in inferring meaning from context; a useful reading subskill
@@FergusFadden I see. And what is inferred by your use of 'could', may I ask? ;-)
