I just began Plant Based. I used to think it was expensive. I'm on a fixed income. When in reality all that pre made foods and meats are more expensive. This is a great video especially for starters like myself. I've only been at it for a week. I've noticed since I started my sugar level went down to my lowest I have ever been it was 93 today. It's been between 101-93 since I started. When I was eating cheese and junk foods. It was always between 120-130. And I noticed my allergies are getting a bit better. I miss cheese some. But I know how it makes me feel after eating it. Hopefully I can make it to week two. :) I made a great meal today and it was filling and satisfying. I made a portobello mushroom burger, with fries and homemade veggie broth gravy. And also zucchini fritters. Vegan of course. It was so good. Oh I also use vegan mayo called Just Mayo. And I'm having to take supplements anyways. So I thought I'd try this. It took me a year to decide. I watch video's and researched. I watched Fork Vs Knives and that kind of helped me decide what I wanted to do. :) And I love your video's. I still need to try Quinoa. I do love the Quinoa pasta. So I may love the Quinoa itself. Will give it a try soon. :)
I have tried to go plant based three times now. Each time ruined by cheese cravings. I am starting again next week. Good luck with your journey. Go stock your pantry with essentials chick peas , tahini, beans, frozen fruit and different spice blends,
Ty Tracy. Good luck on yours too. I already stock up on my favorite Plant Based foods. Beans, Frozen fruit and some frozen veggies. Canned mushrooms. I eat pasta. I eat the kind made from veggies half the time. Wild rice. Frozen french fries. I use black beans, white beans, refried beans sometimes. And I try to keep creative with my meals to keep me satisfied. I keep saying Cheese is a drug. That is what got me off if the last time too. So far so good this time around.
Great tips! Use coupons, go to stores like World Market & Marshalls/TJMaxx (they have natural and organic cabinet food essentials for a lower price) and meal prepping.
I personally just buy only what I know I will definitely finish up. I also believe that buying quality ingredients actually helps you save in the long term. Avoiding food wastage as much as possible really helps to save. Discounts, deep freezer and learning to make your own are also great tips.🌹
I'm so lucky to live in Florida, most fruits are in season year round! And a lot of us have fruit trees in our yard :) We have limes, mangoes, and bananas.
I love shopping sales but if they're good enough, I go crazy 😂 my favorite cashew butter is a whopping $17 a jar, but my local health food shop reduced it to $10 for a month of august. My pantry is literally filled with cashew butter now!
I quit buying bulk items at the local health food store when my son noticed there were bugs in the bin of one of the items. Nope, don't need that hassle.
Hello Im in NYC on the UWS and I buy quinoa in bulk from whole foods or local health food stores. In NYC you have to store hop. I buy a lot of my berries and seasonal fruit from the local "fruit man" on the corner then I supplement with the farmers market. Also buy things that are cheap that you can make different ways, Zucchini- roasted, fritters, bread, spiralized.
I've never heard that term but I think Trader Joe's does rescue produce. But I have to be careful because their produce is either already getting moldy or it happens very quickly.
patty 8873 always check before buying. Never heard of Trader Joe's having rescue produce, have always seen them full price. Personally It's worth it to go through the rescue produce market. For $15 all my fruits, veggies, herbs, mushrooms and lots of it.
Such a useful video, Alyssa! Thanks for helping to dispel the notion that plant-based eating is always expensive!

Costco is a great place to buy in bulk and they have lots so vegan, organic and even kombucha which is pretty pricey elsewhere. Thank you for the tips
I love tip number 2! DIY is always the best way to go!
I'm getting ready to move out for the first time to Chicago and this was SO helpful! Thank you!
These are all great tips! We love going to the Farmer's Market & freezing produce for smoothies too!

This video is really helpful on saving money 😺😺
I'm lucky I can shop at Costco and Trader Joe's. They have choices for fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables. Thanks
when you have no bulk store, no farmers market, and no freezer 😂😂😂
I quit buying bulk items at the local health food store when my son noticed there were bugs in the bin of one of the items. Nope, don't need that hassle.
What brand would you suggest for cacao beans or cacao powder?
KOS Organics. Cheaper on Amazon prime plus If you use it alot I recommend doing subscription service to save more money
