    Hey firstly just wanted to say thank you so much for making this video. I have my LNAT soon and while I'm very confident in my ability to do well in Section A, Section B is a bit more of a struggle but you've given me a lot to think about on how I can structure my essay. Hey Tristan! I saw your story on IG this morn, congratulations on your Durham offer! :D I had got into 5 unis in the UK for politics and IR and had firmed Birmingham. But now I can’t go due to the pandemic. Tbvh, I have always been more inclined towards law than anything else. The thing is, in India which is where I live, law is for 5 years and that’s a lot for someone who also wishes to study abroad. On the other hand, it’s only 3 in the UK. So I was wondering about giving the LNAT a try for entry next year. What do you think?

    • @Tristan
      @Tristan  4 роки тому +2

      Hey thanks for reaching out! It really is entirely up to you, if you’re convinced that you want to study law in the UK then I’m sure you’ll b able to pass the LNAT! Don’t forget there are lots of great unis here that don’t require it so you would still be able to study law if you’d applied to multiple courses. Sorry I can’t help more, the decision really is up to you but it’s a big one so you should spend a good amount of time deciding what is best for you :)

    • @Tristan
      @Tristan  4 роки тому +2

      Hey thanks for the suggestion, I’ll try to put something together about that soon! In the meantime I’d say just try to practice as many argumentative essays as you can within timed conditions. There’s loads of example questions that you can find online but let me know if you if there’s anything specific you’d want me to talk about. Good luck practicing!

    Love the video but as a person weighing up whether to do the LNAT or not, would you recommend still doing it despite not having as much of a preparation time if I started now. Some websites I see says 8 months is plenty of time, some say 1 month, what’s a time frame that it is still good to prepare for the LNAT??

    • @Tristan
      @Tristan  Місяць тому +1

      I would check online whether there is any downside to taking the LNAT this year and trying again if it doesn't work out (I think doing this is fine). As I've explained, the LNAT is very much aptitude-based, though practice is absolutely helpful. So ultimately, it depends on your personal circumstances and how confident you feel. If possible, I'd give it a go this year if you're keen to go to uni as there's no harm in trying other than the cost if you make sure it doesn't hurt your confidence. Hope that helps, best of luck!

    • @Tristan
      @Tristan  4 роки тому +13

      I practiced the multiple choice slowly but consistently in the months before the LNAT to get as much experience as possible because understanding how the questions can be worded is important. I also did essays but I wish that I had done more. In the 2 weeks before the test I focused all my effort on making sure I was as prepared as I could be but consistency is the most important thing when preparing for any test. I hope that helps, let me know if you have any more questions :)

    • @Tristan
      @Tristan  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Aliya, thank you and that’s a great question! Honestly I would try to make your decisions without thinking about the LNAT too much because ultimately I think you should chose the unis you actually want to study at for 3 years. However, obviously the ones that ask for the LNAT tend to be seen as some of the most prestigious as they have high entry requirements so they’re popular choices. I decided to apply to Durham and Bristol and 2 other choices that I still liked as a backup if the LNAT didn’t go well. The London unis like UCL are exceptionally good for Law but I didn’t want to live in London so I didn’t apply to them at the time. You just want to keep your options open and not get caught in a corner in the future. I realise that this may sound a bit confusing but hopefully it was somewhat helpful, feel free to reply or DM me directly if you want to have a longer conversation etc. Good luck!

    • @Tristan
      @Tristan  4 роки тому +1

      Hey, when are you planning on doing the test? Testing doesn’t start until the first of September and you have until January to do it, so even if you did it on the first day possible you would still have about a month and a half left. So I think it’s still worth getting for some extra practice or to complete the full mock papers it has. Honestly it depends on how confident you feel with the preparation you’ve already done and the resources that you’ve already used. Hope that helps!

    • @keshwabadgujar5471
      @keshwabadgujar5471 4 роки тому +1

      I'm not 100% sure when. I probably have to do it before October 15th as I'm applying to Oxford as well. I'm not sure because I don't know where I'll be in October. Because of this pandemic, I've been stuck outside my country for a while. I don't know whether to find a test centre here or back at home as I don't know where I'll be then.

    • @Tristan
      @Tristan  4 роки тому

      Like I said, every test is different so there's no telling how similar your test may be to the questions you practiced with. But overall its probably the best way to prepare so whether or not its more difficult than the real test you get, there aren't many other ways to get yourself ready!

    Does it make a difference if you take the test in September or January, if ur not applying to oxbridge? And when did u take it?

    • @Tristan
      @Tristan  4 роки тому +2

      Hey, great question! As far as the LNAT goes, it absolutely does not matter when you take it so long as you do it before the deadline. However, you should think practically about what else you have going on at the time you decide to do the test such as mocks etc. I didn’t want to feel stressed during school time so I actually decided to do it on October 23rd which was during a half term. It’s a balancing act, the earlier you get it done, you’ll be free to focus on other things like revision later on but the later you do it, the more time you’ll have to prepare. Ultimately it’s up to you and when you do it shouldn’t matter too much but it’s still something to consider. I hope that helps and good luck!

      You get a whiteboard to write notes and plan. And yes, you do get a timer on the computer that tells you how long you have left to finish each section :)

    Thanks Tristian for the information. I'm in 10th Grade now. Should I start preparing from now?

    • @Tristan
      @Tristan  4 роки тому +1

      Hey! I assume that you’re in Grade 10 in the US? The UK the equivalent is Year 11 and you won’t do the test until Year 13 so honestly it probably won’t be that valuable for you to start preparing so early. You’ll probably forget the tips after 2 years and there’s no telling if you’ll actually still want to apply for Law at a UK uni in 2 years time. That being said, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t start preparing if you’d like to! I hope that helps :)

      @@Tristan yeah actually I'm from india and like 10th grade is when we are 16 and give our matric. So like after matric we have two higher secondary years which is 11 and 12th grade. After that is undergrad. So when should I give the the test? And apply?

    • @Tristan
      @Tristan  4 роки тому

      I wouldn’t worry about the test until the year that you need to apply. When that year comes, go to the official LNAT website to see when you need to apply and complete your test. You can always start practicing early but don’t worry about applying until the year that you need to. I hope that helps!

    Hey, did you find the LNAT book easier than the LNAT? Im doing the practice questions for section A and i got like 26/42 and then 29/42. i think this is too high and maybe the book is easier compared to the actual LNAT, whats your view?

    • @Tristan
      @Tristan  4 роки тому

      It depends on the LNAT teat you get abs how you personally process information. You may find the real thing harder or easier than the practice books. Either way, it’s the best practice you can do so whether it’s easier or not is secondary to just feeling prepared for the test. The most accurate are the 3 official LNAT tests, everything else is just practice. Hope that helps:)

    • @Tristan
      @Tristan  2 роки тому +3

      Hey man congrats on getting it done. If you think that your essay would have been better with the full intro then not having it has objectively reduced the quality of your essay. However, there’s no need in worrying until you get a response with an offer or not because it’s just down to the individual admission tutor and nothing you do from now until you get your response will change the outcome. Be glad it’s over and try not to think about it until you actually need to!

      Those are a lot of questions because you’re not aware of what you need to do. Have a read of the LNAT website for details like dates, where to do it etc then watch this video then ask more questions if you have them but doing those things should answer most of them
