- Here's a class 8th math lectures| terminating and non terminating decimal numbers |#maths |#mathtricks :
Terminating Decimal:
- A decimal that has a finite number of digits after the decimal point
- Can be expressed as a finite fraction (e.g., 3/4, 2/5)
- Ends in a finite number of zeros or repeats a pattern of zeros (e.g., 0.5, 0.25, 0.125)
Examples:
- 0.5
- 0.25
- 0.125
- 0.75
Non-Terminating Decimal:
- A decimal that has an infinite number of digits after the decimal point
- Cannot be expressed as a finite fraction
- Does not end in a finite number of zeros or repeats a pattern of zeros (e.g., 0.333..., 0.14159...)
Examples:
- 0.333... (repeating)
- 0.14159... (non-repeating)
- π (pi) = 3.14159... (non-repeating)
- 1/3 = 0.333... (repeating)
Note:
- Terminating decimals can be converted to fractions with denominators that are powers of 10 (e.g., 10, 100, 1000).
- Non-terminating decimals cannot be expressed as simple fractions and may be irrational numbers (like π).
