Hi doc, thanks for sharing! Can you explain to me why the atrial contraction makes a reversal A wave ? Its because the blood is going back to the placenta, right?! But how this is possible ?
The A wave reversal is due to atrial contraction pressure. There is a short blood flow reversal noted. Due to a cardiac defect, the blood instead of going into the ventricles, flow backwards towards the ductus venosus, just like hepatic veins get dilated due to backflow of blood in case of heart failure. It can occur due to heart's inability to pump blood towards the ventricles
Dear Doctor. I had this medical examination at 12 weeks fetal age. Everything was ok (size of fetus, heartbeat, neck fold etc.) and the blood test proved that there is a very low risk to Down/Patau/Edwards syndrome. However, I had a little negative reversal. My question is, does it make sense to do this examination at that age? I've red that it is not unusual to have not the perfect result and it can improve until the 18th/20th week. Thank you in advance for your response.
Hello! The pregnancy is still early. Flow in the ductus venosus can improve as the pregnancy progresses. It is reassuring that there is low risk for chromosomal abnormalities. Your next scan will give you more details regarding fetal growth and well being. Best Wishes!
Non visualized ductus venosus means that the blood vessel that diverts some blood flow away from the liver and towards the heart is absent. Intact IHPVS means the blood vessels in the liver are normal. It can lead to complications such as heart problems, developmental issues, or other anomalies. However, in some instances, fetuses can adapt to this condition with alternative circulatory pathways. Further monitoring is required. Best Wishes!
@@hematharanir889Okay, the NT is above normal range that is why your doctor suggested NIPT. It can raise concerns for chromosomal abnormalities but it does not directly mean there is an abnormality. The results of NIPT and further ultrasound scans will give more details. Best Wishes!

@@nitinkumarharnakiya6829 The absence of A Wave reversal is normal. An increased NT thickness may increase risk of developing chromosomal abnormalities, however, it can still be found in normal babies. Your double marker test will provide more details. Best Wishes!
Hello. I'm sorry to hear about your concern. It may be an indicator of fetal heart abnormalities or chromosomal abnormalities. It will be examined further. Best Wishes!
