- In this video, David uses a jack hammer with a clay spade bit to remove hard clay. David is working on digging a root cellar.
The "gears not engaging" is the bit being driven out and jamming on the retainer. Lifting and dropping the machine usually frees it up and allows you to continue. Try to not let it hammer unless the bit is in contact with the ground to prevent jamming.
Hey buddy, not sure if u got that on ur quad too, but on mine, u can release the winch on the side of the winch (There should be something like a "small wheel", you turn it and it unlucks, so u can go with it and dont have to wait at the quad and keep pressing the key to release that cable.
Thanks! I’ll check that out.
I own the same jack hammer. I did a lot of work breaking thick concrete. It's very powerful and I really love it! But! My jack hammer head start wearing out. I feel like soon I will have to buy another one if I won't be able to buy a head separate.
Make sure you always have enough oil!
Thanks for the tips! Yeah I love that jack hammer, didn't cost much and have used it a lot! I bought one that cost 3 times as much and it broke in a week.
What kind of brand and model of Jack hammer is this? I’ve been in the market for either a lighter weight Jack hammer or an sds max type rotary hammer for digging out holes for ejector pits and trenches for plumbing. Looking to avoid the hefty priced Milwaukee and makita tools.

I bought it for $130 a year and a half ago. Now it's $165.
Making progress!
Thanks!
Don't push it, just hold it. It has weight to do the job.
U could have saved a bunch of time and money by just renting a skid steer and a good mini ex
Thanks, I have a mini excavator. I'll be renting equipment for the pond though. Right now my cost is essentially zero and time is flexible. Renting requires a block of time to be dedicated to the work.
Not shure about your tool but if you grease your shank it should engage easier. You have probably long finished this job. Lol
It's a cheap jack hammer but did the job. Thanks for the comments!
