Wright Thought That Weinstein's Theory Was Completely Crazy, Despite Agreeing With Some Of Bret's Claims In The Past. Weinstein And His Wife Heather Heying Responded To Wright, And Said That This Was Not A Theory But A Hypothesis.

I can't even march in time! Conscripting me would be like a Woody Allen sketch from the pre-Mia era when he was funny). If it's only 10% or less they might be deliberately wheedling out non-compliant personality types. Hazing rituals, which are traditional in military outfits even though the modern military officially disapproves of them, must lead to some dropping out, but the point of the ritual is that those that remain are less likely to leave because they have undergone an ordeal that would have been for nothing if they left after having gone through it, so they become more committed to their membership of the group responsible for their hazing. Well, that's the theory at any rate. So given hazing must lead to some drop outs, is it a similar figure?
@@markpostgate2551 it's in unacceptable offload. Our rating in the army for man power is "marginal"- with other branches labeled " weak" . With a 25% debt to the next year. Id walk away with nothing and still would gain everything. Life is bigger than this. The military can't undue the service I already serve; they can't " unvet" me. I am what I am. I served to be a soldier. Just that. It's a culture thing. All they can try to do, is blacklist me, label me- that doesn't matter to my soul or to the world. This isn't the 1950s. It's an unlawful order- they had to alter the definition of vaccine- and what they claim isn't backed by anything- approved by unelected offices and panels. That's like renaming " genocide " to " administrative culling"- then providing an "explanation" that sounds official with " science" . Exactly Like Hitler. It's in the army core values to demonstrate PERSONAL COURAGE, at risk to comfort of career and self, to contest such unlawful orders. Robert Wright is definitely NOT intellectual dark web adjacent. He somehow managed to be interested in a lot of the same stuff but without partaking of any of the same values or attitudes.
He's been on the 'maybe Brett Weinstein is a complete charlatan' beat for a while, but he bends over backwards to be charitable, and so was withholding any final public judgement.
He's also always been a non-interventionist and constantly emphasizes the importance of 'cognitive empathy', and seeing foreign policy from the other country's perspective.
The more I think about it, Robert Wright is kind of what you get if someone actually proceeded with the kind of intellectual principles the Sam Harris types only pretend to espouse.
I dunno… RW is just as opinionated & defensive as any of these guys.
Kind of bummed that everyone on the show was unfamiliar with Robert Wright’s work. A “Skeptic/science blogger” who operates in a space that is “definitely where Weinstein came out of” is a pretty irresponsible characterization. I’d recommended listeners of this show to subscribe to his Non-Zero newsletter where he has previously been quite critical of the Weinstein’s as well as offer quite good coverage of the Russia/Ukraine war and the American response to it, among many other things. He somewhat recently interviewed Ben Burgis (friend of this show) on his Hitchens book, whom Wright previously clashed with on the Iraq War. Hold you to a high standard: do better.
Calling him "quite critical" of the Weinsteins is underselling it. Half of Wright's career the past decade has been opposition to the New Atheists and IDWers, from a leftwing, anti-interventionist perspective.

How can this man have a PHD and not know that deductive reasoning is not how we do science?
He may know it’s not sound reasoning. He’s interested in fame, power, money, views…
It's literally how we do science. We had to solve the induction problem. See Karl Popper. Induction outside mathematics is fallacy. Not that I am defending Brett Weinstein here. Just don't confuse inductive reasoning with anything but fallacy unless you are using induction to prove some mathematical proposition.
@@noosphericaltarzan You can start with inductive reasoning.
@@soulknife20 You'd be starting with a fallacy so you'd need to stop doing that and work from a model. You should check out Karl Popper's solution to the induction problem. Induction in most of its forms is fallacious. For instance, the black swan fallacy is currently a famous version of how induction goes wrong.
@@noosphericaltarzan the problem of induction is that we cant ground it in any epistemic foundation.
That doesnt mean its a fallacy since.
1. Induction works
2. It contains no logical contradiction.
Now if youre talking about the black swan fallacy, yeah that can be a fallacy but thats induction applied without testing which isnt science.
For instance a scientist would make an observation, that swan is black, and from that generate a hypothesis.
All swans are black and then test it. If we tag all swans known to exist they will all be black.
The conclusion would then be limited to the tagging area which would mean inductively you could say "if i see a swan its probably going to be black" and be correct.
Logically and outside of science a person will observe swans being black and say "all swans are black" which is fallacious.
Why all the uproarious laughter when he said he’s a scientist? He is a former prof. of evolutionary biology and recently published a book on the subject. He doesn’t currently practice, but still I’d say “I’m a scientist” isn’t a false statement; certainly nothing at which to laugh.

5: People's Liberation Army Air Force (China) - 1,991
6: Indian Air Force - 1,715
7: United States Marine Corps - 1,157
8: Egyptian Air Force - 1,062
9: Korean People's Army Air Force (North Korea) - 946
10: South Korean Air Force - 898
That's 13247 aircraft for the US.
10475 for the rest of the top 10.
Just the air force and the army alone would be more than the rest of the non-US nations on the list combined... The fucking NAVY has more air crafts than china's air force.. They're on the ocean! And they have more planes than China's air force....
To a lefty, that's just insane stats that prove that there's immense waste in military spending.
To a conservative, that's just bad-ass! Muricah! Bad education, but awesome weapons! Hell yeeearh!
This is a sad sad show
Ok, guys, I watched the Bret video. You do not do a good job of representing well the message of the argument, that was made in this video, nore the line of though, that was going on in this discussion. FYI - I am not from the US. Watching this... it is baffeling and concerning, how these ppl cannot understand and represent a point correctly, before they try to argue against it. (Here I am referring to the first video of Bret. I then stopped watching the rest.) I can try to explain what the actual line of thought in the video was, but what would be the point. These ppl seem to stay away from nuanced reasoning.
spiteful attacks on fellow UA-cam shows I’ve seen the young turks do it and now these guys or do it it’s so low class I usually get everything wrong like this one
Weinsteinian Gaslighting is a special kind of gaslighting.
I thought this was a news channel.
This isn’t news.
@@the.bog. No, I was making a joke about the thumbnail of Brett Weinstein being a total charlatan. That’s been an established fact for awhile.
Will you change your name to "The Minority Report" after 2022?
You guys are delusional. Arent you supposed to get your 4th dose? Because it worked so good.
I am not a scientist, but merely a performrer. As a performer, I want to commend Prof. Weinstein on his choice of wig.
"If we're logic-ing all over the place..." She's funny.
@@taranullius9221 come on. people are allowed to think something someone on a radio show said was funny
Bret makes grandiose, conspiratorial claims to stay relevant. Thats all it is, he is probably hurting for cash.
@@alexl4342 what grandiose, conspiratorial claims are you referring to? 🤔
Sincerely asking...
@@alwaysovercomingbear4809 Nearly all of his rhetoric is of a conspiratorial click bait fashion but in terms of this video see topic at 11:00 . Of course he couches everything with "I posed it as a hypothesis...". That is a great way to bring up any bat shit crazy topic that comes to mind without being attached to the answer. Did Hillary Clinton fund a bio lab that started covid? I am just posing the hypothesis, lets discuss...
@@alexl4342 Believe it or not people can speak, if he wants to bring up batshit crazy things. Whats it to you?
The podcast robert and bret did about it put it all into place really.
I know you don't know his argument. I know Sam well enough to know he won't bring up his argument in good faith.
I guess you're a lost cause.
Sam Seder's ignorance is only outdone by his arrogance. If mockery, name calling, and hyperbole were markers of intelligence, this group would surely be called upon to solve the problems of the world. Unfortunately, they'll just have to settle for being part of the problem.
Lol well said sir
