Xvive and cool audio are making BBDs, and I believe it is the xvive chipset that is the 3005s used in the Meraki. The ones that are out of production are Panasonic MN3005. I think that the last production analog delay pedal to use those was the Electro Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man Tap Tempo-1100, or the Moogerfooger MF-104M. Most everything that has a BBD in it these days and since about the mid 2000s will be either xvive or cool audio.
Hello Son, this is your mom chiming in to tell you I am SO proud of you! All I can say is that finger work is as dextrous as ever, and I couldn't sit still during the show. They must like you those walrus people, for what you did with that thing was nobody's business! Awesome! Just. Awesome.
If I had not been playing a Matriarch for the last couple of years, I would have passed this one up as it is quite expensive. But, I've come to very much enjoy what are essentially two 104s under the hood, so when this came along I was willing to pay the exorbitant price. It's nice to have that truly fantastic sounding delay on any instrument, or as part of a loop. Worth every penny. (Still, I just wish it had full CV patch implementation; I've gotten a lot of use out of a fully patchable dual-channel BBD)
This is far and away the best demo of this pedal. I've been binging Meraki demos, because I have one arriving this week. You did such a great job showcasing it, as well as explaining the UI. It seems really well engineered.!
I've been looking at a lot of BBD-style delays lately and this one is "ticking all the boxes", to quote another UA-camr. The Benson Delay isn't a true BBD but it has a lo-fi sauce to it that I think would sound good on keys.
this really does kinda look like the ultimate option right now. Have you checked out the Dreadbox Raindrops though. Not true analog but it gets some of these types of lo-fi-ish sounds
Man... those first minutes of playing screamed Ayla to me in a great way. Maybe not your favorite genre, but this pedal to me is the perfect tool to make amazing trance music. Fantastic jam, thank you so much.
@@RickyTinez check out Angelfalls, it is one of Ayla's most known and beloved trance classics! With that pedal in your arsenal I'm sure it will give you tons of inspiration for future tracks!
Seriously.. I was thinking about it today, who there is the one synth person being like “this pedal is awesome.. but put full size midi on it” or stereo inputs and outputs 😂
There are some really cool pedals coming out these days. I have two bucket brigade analog delays, both mono. One is a vintage MXR green pedal that is over 40 years old and the other is a Maxon AD900. This one is pretty amazing. Crank that feedback to the max! Haha. The pedal circuitry should be self-limiting and make that pleasing analog delay sound that you can play with the time/frequency controls.
hey dude, how'd this handle line level? were you turning things down a lot or is there enough headroom to handle it? also super impressive how you build these tracks on the fly btw.
Walrus knocked it out of the park with this pedal. I still want to buy the Boss DM-101 for BBD delays, but i honestly think the Meraki would be the better option for me due to it being fully stereo. Both are amazing! Tough to choose
I love a good analog delay, but it's more important to have usable performance controls and filters. Even the Boss DM-101 fails in this department. The Suhr Discovery is the only big analog delay that's super usable/playable. It has 4x BBD chips which you can degrade as much as you want by stretching it to over 2 seconds. Big display. Dedicated knobs for HPF/LPF/LFO. You get all the wow/flutter from the LFO, and everything's MIDI controllable, but MIDI doesn't hijack the speed. It has separate division buttons if you want MIDI time sync. Other boutique pedals add a bunch of extra features but they screw up the basics. The Zen Delay and the Benidub Echo might be digital delays, but they're really good because they also have analog HPF/LPF. If I don't get that I'd rather just have another DM-2W or another nice crunchy 12-bit '80s pedal. When I see a pedal like the Meraki I'm thinking... Yeah it's stereo, but I can get two DM-2Ws and make a stereo ping-pong and it's still half the price of this thing! The Zen Delay is still the king of $600 delays. I'd happily pay $1,200 for an analog Zen Delay with hopefully a little wow/flutter LFO and CV for the filter.
Oh my god finally. I have been designing a stereo BBD to replace the one I lost on the Matriarch, because there was nothing to meet this small need in the market. I can't believe it's here finally. THANK YOU, GOOD SIR!!
There are Xvive MN3005 reissues out, for instance used in Asheville Music Tools ADG. It’s a cool analog delay that I have but it’s mono. Also a special edition they make for the ADG delay that includes an insert loop and CV control. Not MIDI though.
I just discovered this pedal exists, and now I want one, especially after hearing it with synths. I also have a Matriarch and love its stereo BBD delay and would love this to use with my other synths.
I also wish the time knob would jump between time divisions when synced to MIDI, like the Matriarch's delay does. Since it's digitally controlled, implementing that should be possible with a firmware update.
Really inspiring. Made me want to make more deep house, was a huge fan of this many years ago. Now I make most other electronic music. But as I said this really had a vibe I liked. Question of how the first thing you recorded (chord-like) was made, did you add more delay or reverb on the octatrack to get the smooth loop. Or only looped without fx? Thanks for the the dope video and track
Thanks for the video!! This sounds great!!I have been searching for stereo analog delays for a bitI would tell people to check out the stereo delay by Flower Pedals too.... That is, if you aren't in a rush. It's comes out in February. I am probably buying both. I am an analog delay sucker.(DOD Rubberneck, Chase Bliss Tonal Recall/Thermae) Also, Jackson Audio New Wave is a great stereo chorus.
I enyoyed the music in this episode. Ricky is getting better and better. Nice delay but 600 price tag is based on fact that its the only double analog delay with midi...in few months there will be new rival and the price will drop
You think? I assume there will be some follow upsof other brands in the future, but this a one of a kind right? I've pulled the trigger, gonna try it out, see if i'm getting blown away.
it's a pity that the Boss DM-101 is only with mono input, but it also has 8xBBD. which would you choose, i've been thinking about the Boss DM-101 for a long time, but this video has given me a lot to think about. I don't know what to choose
There are no other real choices for a stereo BBD delay. The only one I had was built into the Moog Matriarch, and nothing else sounds like it...until now. There are plenty of (mono) BBD delays out there, each a little different. The DM-101 is all of those pedals in one, which if you're mainly using for guitar, would be more fitting. If you're after stereo BBD specifically (like I am), this is a no-brainer!
@@RickyTinez Two mono BBDs would get you there…like two of the the Moog MF-1, a beautiful BBD, or whatever your preference. But having to do a manual ping pong, never exactly time synchronized, cumbersome, space-hog and expensive, might cost you about the same as the Meraki anyway!
hey Ricky, thx for this amazing video. Can you offer me some lights on how to configure this Meraki wonder to clock sync with my ableton ? I have no clue of how can the delay would pass in "listen" mode...
This makes want a Thermae MK2 so badly! I'm currently using two thermae for foe stereo, and also usually have another thermae to my aux send, Sending midi for time and cc to all three. Doing the tap tempo independently also gives a fun vibe. Sometimes i put the Gen loss mk2 though aux send for that tape sound, then i have a spare thermae. Sometimes i use the decco. This one is really cool, but it almost gives more of a reverb like effect. Kinda like a two in one deal then! Love how the pedal looks, not a fan of that logo, but the pedal has a nice simple design! Stereo and 5pin interface, I really have to look into this pedal, so i can put it after my thermae.
This pedal can do the staccato delays also! I was mainly sending it longer pad sounds so the tails meshed together. - Ive also though about the 2 pedal combo for stereo on other pedals I have haha. Is it a plus that it’s separate?
If i want to just experiment then I don't sync them. Sometimes i sync all three to different speeds to create polyrhythmic delay. Yeah the Mekari looks like a lot of fun, it's pure analog, I'm either gonna get the Mekari, or I'm gonna get the OTO BIM. The OTO BIM is the best of both worlds, it has dark analog plus a 12BIT sample based digital delay, the BIM also gets delay times up to 3500ms i believe. If you have tried the BIM, then how would you compare it to Mekari? I recently got the OTO BOUM, I would recommend try that, works great for you style of making music. I really enjoy your blooper videos. Have a good one!@@RickyTinez
Ricky, can I use this pedal hooked to my audio interface outputs for mixing? I guess my question is whether it will take +4 dbu line level without distorting
Could you answer a tech question for me? Does the unit sum to mono at any point? Thanks, just curious. I am thinking about picking one up, but my rig needs each side to have a full separate path, no summing.
I can't say this with 100% guarantee. but I'm 99% sure it does not sum to mono. UNLESS flipping the switch into "Series Mode" which then the left repeats feedback and then get pushed into the right delay line as well. But Parallel mode they'er independent, ping-pong independent but feed backing into one another repeatedly. Hope this helps!
