Im 31 now and have loved watching derbies since i was a kid. Still remember them being on cable back in the day! But i agree, i like seeing cars bend and break. Either way great video and cant wait to see the next one
That where I’m at with trucks. When you go agents 4 people with cheated trucks that are able to run just because they turn one away they don’t have a truck heat. So they go ahead and use I beams for frames, use 1/4” steel sheets all around the truck for sheet metal and fill there 5”x5” 1/2 thick roll cage with concrete just because they can get away with it. That class I would be fine running if I had the money and time to do that. For people like me that build out in the dirt by my self with little money it sucks. I built my old truck for this year to run Washington county but ended up not finishing it in time. I didn’t run it after that just because I didn’t want to ruin a truck that I put hours and hours into for no reason. Washington is the only show that dose not have a ton of trucks that are way over built in a overkill aspect. If I want to run a tank class that’s what havoc was good for. Not now.
I don't get all this reinforcing with RSJ's, bolting rear axle to chassis direct etc. Just go to the breakers, buy a runner for scrap value, take it home strip it out, fit a seat with full harness, a reinforced internal fuel tank, if it's a diesel even better, less fire risk and run it, if it lasts more than 5 minutes your in luck, if not hard luck and look for one with less tin worm next time. It's meant to be fun not a way of making money. Most vehicles in breakers are there because they failed their annual vehicle test not because of an RTC and the repairs would have exceeded the value of the vehicle so owner sent it to the breakers.
Around the 6:40 mark you can get a glance of Mr.Matt ( driver of Junky & also Matt’s Off-Road recovery) Paul’s good friend at the bottom of the video as an official, looking back at Michelle & the others making a “smash” sign with his hands......it made my day.
In my opinion there needs to be 3 classes like cars. The Farm, limited weld, and old iron. There also need to be rules for just trucks. They are completely different then a car. The biggest problem with getting more classes and stuff like that is getting more people into it. It’s hard to get people to run trucks. It’s not necessarily a build problem in my opinion it’s a rule reinforcing and structure. If I could run a heavy build and have the money to build one to hold up I would. It’s to the point in truck where you can bring a truck with rail road tracks as frames. you can wrap it with 1/2 think steel then put a bulldozer bucket on the front with spikes coming off of it and they would let you run. They only check safety. There are no rules that actually give limits and if there is they don’t look. The only time I have ever had my truck check and was told to cut something was it Washington County when Matt was in charge.

Sounds like an inspection problem not a build problem. The last show that paul ran trucks in UTC 2018 the head inspector had all the trucks in the barn and specifically said "Paul are the trucks go to go" Paul had every opportunity to inspect or protest instead he ran and lost now we have a "truck problem" Also with trucks that "Don't bend" or trucks with kickers in the rules (That paul helped write) it says car rules apply... 1980's and newer cars get kickers that run with old iron cars. so hence the trucks i build are 2014 and newer... also roll cage 5x5 is the max you can use.. so i use it... my truck can be inspected anytime just like anyones elses could have. The difference is i take the time to build trucks not cars. get any good builder that builds good cars and have them build a truck and their trucks would turn out just as good. Just cause paul doesn't win now "trucks are dumb" but my checks are cashing just fine.

Your discussion about the issues with the rules, is that the one of the reasons you stopped doing as many demos. Also did you have some bigger rivals besides junky and Robby. Some demos I've watched it seemed like you were ganged up more than others. I like how your newer videos "Fab rats" you talk way more and tell more of the stories in your lives. You are an amazing personality/ Creator.
I agree 127.3% The derby should be won by the driver and not U.S Steel and Lincoln Electric. My first derby was in 1979 and my last was 2006 after cancer treatments that left my jaw too brittle to drive in any more derbies but I'm still addicted to the sport.
We have the same thing here in south Ga only it’s with cars being way overbuilt and rules not being followed or enforced. Me being a driver I’ve talked to many fans and Paul is right on what he is saying and the host is too, fans want to see total destruction when they go out to watch.
