Glad you guys had a good experience at Haji Samuri in Damansara Utama! The arnab sounds so interesting- we've only every had rabbit cooked in stews so we'd love to try it in a satay 😋 We're keen to head to Bangi and back to Kajang for more satay feasts! 😍 Cheers, Sheena
Guys you are addicted to 'Teh tarik' now, gonna be tough back home without having it daily ;-) Awesome... The way that you explained the food and its ingredients in their original names. Well done guys for reflecting your humbleness to promote Malaysian food... 'Lets travel together'
Glad you guys are having a blast in KL . I grew up in the UK and am currently living in Singapore...whenever I head back to see my Mum in Kuching , Sarawak.. it's all about filling my tummy ( like now ) ..lol... Come visit Sarawak if you have the chance.. more adventures and great food here as well. You guys have fun and stay safe.
Thank you so much, yes we're having a great time in KL, we would love to visit Sarawak but just don't have the time this trip, we'll be back though, it's very high on our list!
At their outlets, people are not as many as the main outlet in Kajang, that's why you get it FRESH HOT! Sate is nice to eat when it is hot! Glad you guys enjoyed it!
The founder Hj Samuri just passed away early this month and his started satay samuri in 1992. Hj Samuri owned the factory in Bangi which is to process his satay :) ..the legacy continued by his family. Happy to see you guys eating there.
Hj. is an abbreviation for Haji the honorific given to a man who has completed the Haj pilgrimage to Mecca (the female equivalent is Hajjah). The chain of restaurants is named after the late Haji Samuri. Haji Samuri's is best known for their peanut and sambal chilli sauces, the satay themselves though not bad, aren't necessarily the best in town. Good job on the videos by the way.
Ah this is really interesting, great to have a history behind the name, thanks! Yes we heard they're famous for the peanut and Sambal and we can see why, Amazing! We need to try some more Satay places to judge different Satay a think. So glad you like the videos!
If you're hankering for more satay and feeling adventurous you could also head to Kajang, a small town on the southern outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. Kajang is especially known for its satay and is easily accessible by MRT - taking you literally to the doorsteps of its numerous satay outlets.
For ketupat, it's coconut leaves, not pandan leaves :). Yeah, ketupat is more delicious than nasi impit because ketupat has the fragrance from the leave. Anyway, enjoy your stay in Malaysia.
Thank you so much for this, we keep on getting Pandan leaves confused with other leaves haha, it's probably because we have so much Pandan Kaya! Thansk for letting us know and helping us out!
You guys should try Nasi Kerabu too. For me it's the (un)official dish of Malaysia! And if you guys have time, don't forget to visit East Malaysia. Which basically consist of two state, Sabah and Sarawak. Don't miss out on nature, and try indigenous foods offered here!
We love Nasi Kerabu! We've had it a few times but never filmed! We don't have the time to make it over to Eastern Malaysia yet but we will do on our next trip!
Love your channel! Thanks for your great reviews about malaysia and our food :) Btw.. I tried the fish satay at sahmuri last month and my impression was exactly like yours!! I will definitely go for the fish next time. To those who haven't try fish satay do try it!!
You guys still in Malaysia? If you're around SS2, you should try Murni SS2, it's a mamak store with super sized dishes and the variety is huge! Hope you enjoy Malaysia!
Malaysians usually cook their satay well done, hence the 'overcooked' meat. They could be a bit tough to chew, dry and so on ... So very different from the usual medium rare situation in the western countries because we like our satay to be like that. However, if you're keen to find some good, melt-in-your-mouth satay, ye can go to Muar, Johor and find this satay called 'Remy satay' or so. But if you're having troubles find it, generally in Muar, the satay is pretty much spot on and delicious (try eyeballing the restaurants and find the one that cooks using charcoal, not from electric heat) . Or if Muar is too far from your place, try any local delicacies in KL like char kuew tiow, laksa, mamak food (all sorts of roti), mee sup, pasembor, rojak , etc. If you have a chance to visit Penang, please do. Penang is must visit state famous for its street food! Thank you for visiting Malaysia! I'm a Malaysian studying in Ireland. Much love xx
Just discover your channel and i really respect how you guys were so polite in commenting the foods, always giving praise while eating. So different from other youtubers but of course everyone have different taste buds. But i just wanna say thank you for trying our foods, i hope i can go to london and feel the city just as much as you did with Malaysia. Now your channel would definitely be one of my fav so far 💜💜
Omg! I’m salivating.. haji samuri satay is good, but if you want to try other satay (cause everyone makes differently) i would suggest willy satay! Damn good also, both are my top 2 satayyyy in malaysia
i will have to check this place out! i had look at their website and i don't blame you for not ordering the beef tripe and chicken gizzard satay ! my new favourite travel channel , keep up the good work!
Haji Samuri paved the way with his peanut sauce and sambal and i've tried it once and it taste mighty good. why some other satay maker does not copy this and add sambal is beyond me. it should be mandatory.
Kuah Kacang (Peanut Sauce) ( for 10 persons) 1 kg peanuts - dry roasted in a pan or wok, remove skin and ground to consistency like sand in the dry mill of your blender (you can have it chunkier if you like) Ingredients to be blended together :- * 3 stalks lemon grass, use bottom 1-inch only * 1 inch ginger * 1 inch galangal or lengkuas (if don’t have this, replace with ginger) * 1 inch fresh turmeric or 1 tbsp turmeric powder * 4 - 5 tbsps of brown sugar (I like my sauce sweet, but you can lessen the sugar) * 4 - 5 tbsps palm sugar * 15 dried chillies, soaked in hot water, remove from water (or use 6 tbsps chilli boh) * 20 shallots or small onions (or 4 large onions) - more onions will impart more flavour * 6 cloves garlic * 1 inch piece belacan or shrimp paste (optional) Additional ingredients :- * Milk from 2 coconuts or 2 cans/boxes of coconut milk plus enough water to reach your preferred consistency * 5 tbsps of asam jawa or tamarind paste, mix with 2 cups water, throw away the seeds (if don’t have this, then use juice of 1 lemon) * salt to taste * 3 tbsps of cooking oil Method :- 1) Put all blended ingredients into a heated wok or pan. Stir until the liquid has dried up a bit. 2) Add in the cooking oil, and keep stirring the ingredients to fry then until fragrant and aromatic….about 5 minutes. 3) Add in the coconut milk and tamarind water or lemon juice. Bring to a boil. Lower heat and simmer for 5 minutes. 4) Add in the ground peanuts and simmer until there is oil coming to the surface. The longer the time, the more oil is produced. 5) Check for consistency - the sauce should not be too watery or runny but should be thick so that you can dip your ketupat or satay or cucumber into it and the sauce is thick enough to stick on. If too watery, then simmer a bit longer. If too thick, then add a little bit of water. 6) Add about 1 tbsp of salt and the sugar to taste. I like mine a bit sweeter. Remove from heat and serve it hot or cold. * Note - if you simmer it longer, there will be more chili red oil floating on top and this gives a nice sheen and look to the Peanut Sauce. The oil comes from the peanuts and coconut milk. 😉
I think u guys maybe wanna taste mee bandung and lontong for breakfast, its also a traditional food for malaysian,I suggest also u guys should try cendol, its kind like ice with some sweet ingredients, have funn guyss...
We weren't quite brave enough to try the tripe satay, I really don't like the smell, but I would like to try it before we leave Malaysia just to see what it's like. Thanks for watching!
After the first bite. U can use fork to push down the meat so that u can dip and scoop the sauce as much as the first bite. Can see that u guys were struggling with the 2nd bite.
Strip the satay out of its skewers into the peanut sauce bowl and eat them with a spoon. It will definitely taste better as you get the satay immersed within the sauce..and since you love the sauce very much, you can have more of them using the spoon anyway. Glad you like it.
Since you guys showing about Satay this episode one of the Malaysian beloved dish . I suggest to you another 2 thumps up scrumptious food called " Hainanese Satay " . Basically is the same method of how they make they Satay but this is a Pork Satay + Pineapples Peanut of gravy ! This scrumptious food was famous at " Malacca " where the place I originated from , but only when you guys get a chance to travel about 1 1 /2 hour down south of KL ;) I bet you gonna love it ! greeting from NYC . ( Location : Opposite Pei Teck secondary Chinese school , pretty much nearby Jonker street ) Have fun !
I usually get my fill of satay at an R&R stop along the highway to Negeri Sembilan state/to Melaka state... It's the same kind of satay, Satay Kajang and for a family of 5, we usually ordered 60 sticks which is probably too much so we take the leftovers out and bring them home to eat as well
Ouhh man you guys should've really go to kajang for the satay. There is this place just nearby the Hj. Samuri in kajang. It is basically an old muzium or gallery for satay. The satay there are way way more big in size, very delicious and juicier than hj. Samuri's. It is in an old satay gallery in kajang, just google gallery satay kajang or muzium satay kajang. Make sure you go to the one on the end of the right side of the entrance, there are many stalls there but the one i mentioned has the best of the best. Do go there sometimes and you would not regret it
This places looks worth adding to our must do list. We'll be staying in the Regalia Suites which is near the Puta Sunway Shopping Mall. Which area is this restaurant located, is it anywhere close to where we'll be? Obviously we'll be exploring as much of the city as we can, but this looks like a place I might want to visit quite often, so if it's close even better :-)
Ah that's a cool area, this restaurant is in Damansara Utama, not too far away from where you'll be staying, uber and grab here are super cheap so getting around is so easy!
Damansara Utama is actually located away (north) from Kuala Lumpur city center where sunway putra place is. You can explore the city using LRT ( light rail transit) and mrt coupled with grab car or uber. If you like the satay you can go south (kajang) which is directly connected via mrt. Damansara Utama area is well developed area (mainly heartland residential) IKEA and some nice shopping center is located here!
I think Sunway Putra Mall which is near to ur place also got plenty of Malaysian food.. Theres lot of food stall.. There got this restaurant called Teh Tarik Place inside the mall.. U can try Malaysian dish over there..
Ketupat is basically rice cooked with coconut milk and wrapped in coconut leaves...and it goes well with many dishes such as chicken/beef rendang, satay and serunding (pronounced as: se-run-ding) which is shredded beef meat and fried with spices until it is cooked. Hope you'd find more amazing food while staying here in M'sia. Cheers! =)
Satay kajang is famous for its taste n name but theres other place like Pantai Puteri Melaka which better in taste but for the local we need to called up first coz it always sold out huhu. Great review by the way.
I just love watching you guys being so immersed in the Malaysian culture and also your enthusiasm every time you try something new! ^_^ you guys should come to Penang again and try different Nasi Kandar restaurants on the Penang island itself. 1. Nasi Kandar Deen Maju 2. Nasi Kandar Deen 3. Nasi Kandar Beratur 4. Nasi Kandar Line Clear 5. Hameediyah Nasi Kandar 6. Kapitan (I recommend the lamb biryani and cheese garlic naan set) Also, some of these nasi kandar restaurants are only open in the evening but some are open 24/7, so you can eat it all day if you want too. Love your videos! I already subscribed :D 7. Nasi Kandar
Actually, you should stir the sambal and the peanut sauce together until they are mixed well then you can dip your satay into the sauce. Enjoy your satay!
you're supposed to mix the sambal into the peanut sauce. most places already premix it in but some places give it to you separately so you can adjust the spiciness of the sauce.
Hi guys ! I'm watching your video n I heard the nice lady.... wanted to have recipe of sate kajang ! now is so easy you just type in youtupe sate kajang recipe right away u can get ! I love to watch your chanel ! enjoy your stay in KL......
I ever work here at Sate Kajang in 2014 and I very love sate kajang I burn the satay while I eat all type of satay hahahaha very good peanut sauce mix with sambal😭😭I have to go back my country now 🤣🤣
Always a Friday - Travel Channel FYI Malays homemade cooked its taste 2 times better than outside/restaurant/etc.. I wish can invite both of u to my house and taste the real Malays food prepared by our mother.
usually we used young coconut leafs for the ketupat.. by the way Hj Samuri the owner oh the satay stall just passed away..may Allah bless his soul.. amen
We'll be back in a few months, still loads more Malaysian videos to come, then we've got a Tokyo series coming out, then back to the UK! We really can't wait to visit Sabah, hopefully on our next trip!
i believe hj samuri satay do sell their satay in the UK..you can drop them an email or ring them up about it...another good satay place you should check out it Zaini satay in ampang jaya...have a go at their mutton and beef satay
the peanut sauce recipe does not have same taste since it is a traditional recipe and was inherit by family.. so basically peanut sauce at sate kajang has a different taste and to me it was the best peanut sauce ever.. and till now i couldn't find any place that have same peanut sauce as in sate kajang store..
The Arnab was great, we weren't brave enough to try the Perut though! Haha.

Hey, yes we thought the same thing! This place was great and we'd really recommend it! Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
The founder Hj Samuri just passed away early this month and his started satay samuri in 1992. Hj Samuri owned the factory in Bangi which is to process his satay :) ..the legacy continued by his family. Happy to see you guys eating there.
That is a shame, he has a fantastic legacy though! Thanks for watching and commenting
Always a Friday keep it up :) maybe go outside Kuala Lumpur for hunting food :)

@@AlwaysaFriday They might add pandan leaves into the pot when cooking it for flavour.

Thanks again! This place is definitely worth checking out - fantastic satay, but the peanut sauce and sambal is the real show stopper, INCREDIBLE!
You should try mee rebus or soto ayam witth satay and its a complete breakfast for Malaysian. Another one try Mee Bandung
That sounds like a great breakfast, we haven't had mee rebus yet but sounds good! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Nah... That is not how Malaysian eat.
Haji Samuri paved the way with his peanut sauce and sambal and i've tried it once and it taste mighty good. why some other satay maker does not copy this and add sambal is beyond me. it should be mandatory.
Oh yes we love it sooo much! Thanks for watching and commenting!

Kuah Kacang (Peanut Sauce)
( for 10 persons)
1 kg peanuts - dry roasted in a pan or wok, remove skin and ground to consistency like sand in the dry mill of your blender (you can have it chunkier if you like)
Ingredients to be blended together :-
* 3 stalks lemon grass, use bottom 1-inch only
* 1 inch ginger
* 1 inch galangal or lengkuas (if don’t have this, replace with ginger)
* 1 inch fresh turmeric or 1 tbsp turmeric powder
* 4 - 5 tbsps of brown sugar (I like my sauce sweet, but you can lessen the sugar)
* 4 - 5 tbsps palm sugar
* 15 dried chillies, soaked in hot water, remove from water (or use 6 tbsps chilli boh)
* 20 shallots or small onions (or 4 large onions) - more onions will impart more flavour
* 6 cloves garlic
* 1 inch piece belacan or shrimp paste (optional)
Additional ingredients :-
* Milk from 2 coconuts or 2 cans/boxes of coconut milk plus enough water to reach your preferred consistency
* 5 tbsps of asam jawa or tamarind paste, mix with 2 cups water, throw away the seeds (if don’t have this, then use juice of 1 lemon)
* salt to taste
* 3 tbsps of cooking oil
Method :-
1) Put all blended ingredients into a heated wok or pan.
This is amazing, thanks so much! We will definitely give this a go!
Me: hole sheet
I am malaysian living in Egypt. I want that sate...owhh...you make my mouth watering

James Angrave the nearest outlet from your place is Medan Mara, you can check out their official website - satekajang.com.my/cawangan/
Thanks for the information. Appreciate that very much.
I think Sunway Putra Mall which is near to ur place also got plenty of Malaysian food.. Theres lot of food stall.. There got this restaurant called Teh Tarik Place inside the mall.. U can try Malaysian dish over there..
U must try rendang 😉 rendang is a malaysian traditional food and super famous especially during Hari Raya ☺
Yes Rendang sounds amazing! Thanks.
Next time, you should try Cendol beside Teh Tarik.
We would love that!
Cheers! =)
Thanks for the info, really cool! Thanks for watching!

you're supposed to mix the sambal into the peanut sauce. most places already premix it in but some places give it to you separately so you can adjust the spiciness of the sauce.

i believe hj samuri satay do sell their satay in the UK..you can drop them an email or ring them up about it...another good satay place you should check out it Zaini satay in ampang jaya...have a go at their mutton and beef satay
You can get this in the UK! Amazing, we'll definitely try and get our hands on some!
the peanut sauce recipe does not have same taste since it is a traditional recipe and was inherit by family.. so basically peanut sauce at sate kajang has a different taste and to me it was the best peanut sauce ever.. and till now i couldn't find any place that have same peanut sauce as in sate kajang store..
