NEW Version of the video: • How I Made a Gunne Sax...
excited to share this AUTUMN (fall) version of a Gunne Sax dupe! I used a thrifted bedsheet, what's new! I guessed on how to put this together so I ran into some little errors but ultimately I'm happy with how it turned out!
This is NOT a pattern tutorial, it is just a detailed video of how I went about creating one and hopefully it may help you in some way if you want to create your own!
I would have preferred a circle skirt but otherwise this was fairly simple to make! I tried my best to share how I did it in case it helps others!
Check out last week's video for details on how I came about patterning!

Hey! I'm Stephanie! A stay at home mom and self taught fashion designer navigating life in her 30s while mentally still being 25 (shhhh).
I use a lot of thrifted materials, cheap materials, occasionally pretty fabrics I found on sale, etc. I am nifty, thrifty, frugal, and OBSESSED WITH DRESSES! Join my journey, join the family, come along as I struggle to figure out how to begin sewing for MYSELF, which hasn't gone well yet. I will share my story along the way, in hopes to encourage others who deal with stress, life, body image issues, the list goes on. I'm here to stay!

For the life of me, I don’t understand why no one manufactures dresses like these anymore. Wouldn’t they sell like crazy with the whole cottagecore trend and everything?

That’s a good question! But maybe that’s why they hold their value to people since they’re vintage at this point and hard to find? Hmm I dunno haha. But thanks for watching!

I'm so proud of you. Ty for sharing ur life.. it's personal but MANY of us are going thru this and you made it seem like it's okay to have a hard time, it's okay to talk about mental health.
And it's okay to take a lil break too... it's okay to go to 1 every other week or even 1 a month..🥰

Aw, thank you so much for taking the time to watch my video! And it means so much that my story can help others. Hard times come and go but it's all about our attitude and ability to keep moving forward. It's not easy but if it helps others to endure and share, I happily will! And make fun dresses at the same time hehe :)
      I appreciate you!!

    The wider ribbon worked beautifully.
I used to sew with my babies on my lap and playing around. One of them now very adventurous with leatherwork, other one started designing doll dresses around age 7 then went on dresses and made himself cosplay items. Other two became very artistic. Letting them being around and playing maybe make our work slower but definitely a good influence on them. (I remember our next door neighbour, a seamstress, let me hang around her sewing room. Still remember the smell and the wonderful world of foreign fashion magazines.)

So glad you liked it and thank you for sharing that! Every time my son sees a sewing machine or dress he says “mama” and it melts my heart! Hes usually asleep when I work and it’s not often I work when im taking care of him but showing him my little corner of the house when I can or having him feel a part of it definitely makes me happy! I wonder what he’ll become someday but if he’s anything like me it’ll either be creative or musical hehe

Glad you like it!! I think it’d be better if I used different fabric but bedsheets are always a great way to test ideas!😅

Wow thank you so much for making this video! I plan to make a gunne sax myself. Do you have recommendations on where to get your ribbon/lace. Thank you! 😊

Honestly I get my ribbons and lace from Walmart because it’s cheaper than Joann and we don’t have much around me. But I just use satin ribbon and I bet you can find some online easily too! :) hope that helps! And also I’m glad the video helped you!! Let me know if you end up making one :D
