I've got a question I started the game with Bulbasaur, and I have Kadabra, which means I have a grass type and a psychic type Does this mean I don't need a eggxecutar?
Great playthrough. There's also interesting glitch about Toxic move. If You combine it with Leech Seeds (which Exeggcute can learn on lvl 28 so don't evolve too early) not only Toxic will be stronger every turn but also it'll gain stacked damage from Leech Seeds and vice versa - Leech Seeds every turn will be stronger by the amounts of damage Toxic will make each turn. This make it ultimate combo - large damage and healing at the same time increasing every turn. It's one of the best thing about Bulbasaur line but can be also used with Exeggcute line.
Not sure if anyone else mentioned it, but at 2:01:35 , the reason Kangaskhan wasn't taking much damage is because your Graveller was burned. A burned pokemon's attack stat is cut in HALF.
That's one of those in-game mechanics that you don't understand until you've played the game almost "too much." Seems like Paralysis and Poison have a 25% damage reduction modifier, Burn does 50% less, while Freeze and Sleep nullify move effects 100% (pretty sure you can't even use Rest or Recover in these States)
@@Karl_Kampfwagen Freeze is basically KO in Gen 1. A Frozen Pokémon will never recover on its own, it can only recover with an Ice Heal, Full Heal or Full Restore. In Gen 2 onwards Freeze works more like Sleep where there's a %chance to thaw every turn. Gen 1 has a ton of weird/busted/dumb mechanics, and that's partly why it's so much fun. My favourite? Toxic and Leech Seed share the same "timer". If you badly poison a Pokémon with Toxic and then use Leech Seed, not only does Toxic damage double each turn... so does Leech Seed damage and life drain. Uh-oh, busted! One weird mechanic that I'm sad they got rid of - in Gen 1, base Speed affects crit rate, so Jolteon will crit all over the place. That mechanic was wonky and probably too beneficial to fast Pokémon (being fast is already an advantage) but it was kinda neat.

You mention that the Burglars use fire types and it doesn't make sense, but in the Japanese version they're specifically called something like "thief at the scene of a fire", or someone who steals after a fire happens.... kind of a mouthful in English, lol. In japanese its kajibadorobou so it's... slightly less long (?) But yea it makes some sense I guess that they have fire types. Maybe they even cause the fires so they can loot!!!

@@jesseporter3397 It is! In Japan, they released "red and green" together instead of "red and blue". Japan released a blue version later, and that was used as the basis for the American release. So I actually followed you til the end and noticed a few moves that actually helped I kept dig finished Kadabras and all, Jolteons Pin Missile annihilates Bulbasaur/Ivysaur/Venusaur so you actually could have finished it with only 3-4 Pokémon’s in my opinion. Great game play. Thank you for the fast finish now it’s time to collect and level them all, by the way I’m playing it on the original Game Boy Advance, Pokémon Blue Version.
2:18:57 I kept Squirtle as my main pokemon, got bite on it, and by this point he's lvl 64, got me through pretty much everything with ease accept that ghost tower, but my dugtrio saved me with its dig move It's my 1st time playing pokemon games so i dunno what i'm doing But it looks like it's going rather well only 2 blackouts from said ghost tower True, psychic type would have come in handy.
I was really surprised with the choice of Squirtle… I had no idea that that was the best choice! All these years, I was convinced that it was Bulbasaur! :0 And I tried runs with all three starters!
I still think it's bulbasaur. I do understand his point about not getting vine whip as fast as bubble but fighting the bug catchers and the 2nd rival doesn't take that long and you can fight Misty right away.
I still think it’s bulbasaur. It’s usually dependant on how they do early game. Charmander: weak to first two gyms Squirtle: super effective against first, neutral second and weak third. Bulbasaur: super effective against first two, resistant to third and brutal fourth. By the time you get to his weaknesses you have enough choice for coverage.

Dodrio is basically a Tauros that can fly. Both normal types work well as they are immune to the secondary effects of normal moves and won't get paralysed by any bodyslams.
My buddy and I starting this challenge to play this game through using starter and first five caught. This is helping me research the team I’m gonna use thank you LOL
Countering high level psychics such as rivals' alakazam can be some of the toughest fights. If you put in your own psychic type and spam psychic moves you can usually special drop it several times effectively neutralising the threat both offensively and defensively. This may be more reliable than relying on your physical attacks vs recover, if you cannot outdamage the recover then the rest of your team have to fight a full power 'kazam which can easily be a team wipe. However, if the kazam is heavily special dropped it will not be able to do siginficant damage and will no longer wall special moves. The downside of this strategy is you will often sacrifice your own psychic type or at least waste most of it's PP. Paralysis is also useful as it prevents alakazam from sweeping through your team (you will always strike first against a paralysed opponent), and opens it up for an easy revenge kill from any strong physical attacker. Also with any grindy type strategy you are bound to get one or two 'full para' turns which are bound to give you an advantage.
Cool strats. I do something similar but I use Jynx for my only psychic type, use blastoise more & teach jolteon t-wave for paralyzing alakazams. I also skip bellsprout and just teach wartortle seismic toss for Misty
Try using My OldBoy! (GB/GBC Emulator) Your GBC games will be emulated in GBA Your GB games will emulated on SGB(Super Game Boy) Its all done automatically
Nice team. Jolteon is my go-to for the E4 too. It is very strong pretty much from the word go with the thunderbolt tm. Also, unlike zapdos it is not weak to ice attacks. Other nice alternative pokes for in game play: Zapdos Articuno Jynx Cloyster Starmie Hypno Nidoking/queen Dodrio Mr. Mime Clefable Really if you look at the E4 you really only need 1) an electric for Lorelei and Gyrados, 2) A psychic which sweeps Bruno and Agatha and at least average vs everything else, and 3) A strong ice attacker for Lance. After the electric/psychic/ice coverage is sorted the remaining team can be redundancy and safety. I like to have a physical sweeper too like dodrio and a strong earthquake user.
Seismic Toss I throw on Jynx, with Lovely kiss it become a capture sleep pokemon. Abra for Mr. Mime is odd when Abra has the better Special even before evolving.
I call my bellsprout steminem xD and abra can be traded for a mr mime if you quickly backtrack through digletts cave Mr Mime levels up significantly faster and it's actually very good!
So this has to be post commentary because some parts had to have been sped up in post because its impossible to have that precision w/ that speed like some naming parts or the spin tiles, its crazy how good the commentary is that it really makes you feel like you're playing as you go. Did you write a script?
For anyone who is willing to play this game yourself, consider what I’m going to say: - ALWAYS stock up on healing items, you never know if a wild Nidoran could poison your newly caught Mankey - Whenever possible, try to overlevel all of your Pokémon, it will help to deal with tanky foes - Charizard can’t learn fly, so when you do get the HM, get a random low level pidgey or a useful flying type you want on your team to learn it. - Lastly, that’s it, just enjoy the great and very buggy Gen 1 experience Edit: One more thing: fight every trainer there is in an area, the exp is worth it
35:40 all the jokes you make to yourself are priceless 🤣 i am in doubt to actually play blue on my original brick gameboy again, but my childhood memory is saved in there... perhaps with yellow if I find a video of you speedrunning that one

I pick charmander as one I love the challenge it creates and two charizard with fire blast dig flamethrower and fire spin or fire punch is the business! Just completed elite 4 today for first time in 20 years. My team butterfree level 43, articuno level 50, charizard level 46, weepinbell level 43, raticate level 44 and raichu level 40. If you think getting to level 10 before the dex is a waste of time, what would you consider getting to level 36 and thus a fully evolved starter before the first rival fight in both gens 2 and 3? Wanted to walk back into the lab like a badass with my fire chicken and big ass alligator every time after completely crushing my rival's dreams. Blue on the other hand, I knew I couldn't crush an ego that big even if I had a Mewtwo so he got spared my unfair tactics in his optional second fight.

I kept Squirtle as my main pokemon, got bite on it, and by this point he's lvl 64, got me through pretty much everything with ease
accept that ghost tower, but my dugtrio saved me with its dig move
It's my 1st time playing pokemon games so i dunno what i'm doing
But it looks like it's going rather well
only 2 blackouts from said ghost tower
True, psychic type would have come in handy.
Charmander: weak to first two gyms
Squirtle: super effective against first, neutral second and weak third.
Bulbasaur: super effective against first two, resistant to third and brutal fourth. By the time you get to his weaknesses you have enough choice for coverage.
@@rossy9095 Also worth mentioning: Bulbasaur's final evolution occurs at level 32, rather than level 36 for both Squirtle and Charmander.
Bulbasaur = easy early game, hard late game.
squirtle = medium difficulty throughout
Charmander = hard early game, easy late game
Bulbasaur actually is one of the better starters for speedruns and Nuzlocks
Duuuuude YES! You are THE MAN!!! Love your energy man and you are freakin HILARIOUS! Would like to support you with the membership! Would be SO awesome to see you play more games or even do live play throughs, could watch you and ur jokes all day brotha!!!Really believe in you man!! Cheers! 🎉👏🏼👏🏼 #bestChannel
Please, keep doing this
Wartortle is my favorite water type and Farfetch’d is my favorite normal type, and geodude is my favorite rock type😂
Learning more about game mechanics than ever
Dodrio is basically a Tauros that can fly. Both normal types work well as they are immune to the secondary effects of normal moves and won't get paralysed by any bodyslams.
I name my rival “Dick”
As in Richard-
My buddy and I starting this challenge to play this game through using starter and first five caught.
2023 and im playing this on mobile I love this game 👍🏻 thanks for the refresher mate 😁👍🏻
I actually used Dux as one of my main Pokémon. He’s a beast.
How did you get color on it?
My emulator (GBC) wont produce the color in pokemon red or blue
Try using My OldBoy!
(GB/GBC Emulator)
Your GBC games will be emulated in GBA
Your GB games will emulated on SGB(Super Game Boy)
Its all done automatically
Please make versions for crystal gold and silver enjoyed watching this
Yeah, even Yellow version.
If I may ask, which emulator are you using? Btw, this is a really fun playthrough and I hope you'll make some more for the other pokemon games!!
Nice team. Jolteon is my go-to for the E4 too. It is very strong pretty much from the word go with the thunderbolt tm. Also, unlike zapdos it is not weak to ice attacks.
Other nice alternative pokes for in game play:
Zapdos
Articuno
Jynx
Cloyster
Starmie
Hypno
Nidoking/queen
Dodrio
Mr. Mime
Clefable
Really if you look at the E4 you really only need 1) an electric for Lorelei and Gyrados, 2) A psychic which sweeps Bruno and Agatha and at least average vs everything else, and 3) A strong ice attacker for Lance. After the electric/psychic/ice coverage is sorted the remaining team can be redundancy and safety. I like to have a physical sweeper too like dodrio and a strong earthquake user.
bro your so underated i hope you make it to 100k
🙌
My uncle is a Pokémon type 2 diabetes.
Seismic Toss I throw on Jynx, with Lovely kiss it become a capture sleep pokemon.
Abra for Mr. Mime is odd when Abra has the better Special even before evolving.
You made me feel SO MUCH BETTER about accidentally departing the SS Anne and watching it sail away with my XP 😂
If I miss the love stream will I be able to come back. And watch it later
I picked up Blue yesterday morning and beat it by 4AM this morning following along with this video. lol gg
I usually name the rival stupid because he says oh now I remember his name is stupid
I always like to call my rival some kind of snack, like pretzel or muffin.
For anyone who is willing to play this game yourself, consider what I’m going to say:
- ALWAYS stock up on healing items, you never know if a wild Nidoran could poison your newly caught Mankey
- Whenever possible, try to overlevel all of your Pokémon, it will help to deal with tanky foes
- Charizard can’t learn fly, so when you do get the HM, get a random low level pidgey or a useful flying type you want on your team to learn it.
- Lastly, that’s it, just enjoy the great and very buggy Gen 1 experience
Edit: One more thing: fight every trainer there is in an area, the exp is worth it
Man of recaps can you pls do the mew glitch in cerulean city
Did you forget to pick up a town map from Bumfarts sister?
35:40 all the jokes you make to yourself are priceless 🤣 i am in doubt to actually play blue on my original brick gameboy again, but my childhood memory is saved in there... perhaps with yellow if I find a video of you speedrunning that one
I'm kinda jealous that you kept your first save. I would delete mine and replay them a lot.
Recap (entering Misty's gym): Yeah, it normally takes about 2 hours to get here.
Me (about to enter Mt. Moon after 5 hours): Yeah, totally.
Usually I'm done with the game by 2 hours.... then again, I play on 4x speed
Most dank let's play ever! :D
It is impressive how you mastered it always a classic
Loved watching this, but... 3 years and no more Pokemon playthroughs?
You inspired me. I just played this game for the first time in 20 years and I just one shotted the entire elite 4 and champ with nothing but a Farfetch’d. Swords Dance, Body Slam, Fly, Agility (leveled to 53).
Man of recaps: mentions attack type moves
Me: beyblade flashbacks
3...2...1 Let It Rip!
omg man of recaps playing pokémon wtf
I always knew you were cool but now that I found this vid you became 10X cooler in my eyes. Lol
Can you PLEASE do one of these videos for Yellow, Gold/Silver AND Crystal? I'd watch each multiple times. Do it just like this one. Please!!!
Nothing like finding this gem! Cheers 👌
I've got a question
I started the game with Bulbasaur, and I have Kadabra, which means I have a grass type and a psychic type
Does this mean I don't need a eggxecutar?
Itz A Rubix there’s a million different teams that could work, bulbasaur and kadabra will do just fine :-)
@@ManofRecaps thanks for replying so fast!
Just stumbled across this recently lol would love to see you play other Pokémon games in the future
Taurus Chancey rhydon you can find the in mewtwo cave so it's not that rare and they're all around 45-50 in level
My brother came up with the best rival name when he was a kid. "Buttaco". Not only is it a combination of "butt" and "taco", it sounds like buttocks.
In Yellow the Eeveelution learn they "special-move" at lvl 16 and Eevee will be always at lvl 25 to find... GEn ! of course XD
Admittedly went through a lot of revives and potions but it felt good to manage it when they weren't even high levels. 😎😎
nice by the way im getting a transparent gameboy color and im 13 and im getting pokemon red what do you think of making pokemon red my late childhood?
@@wolfblaze1587 Think it's awesome my favourites as buggy as they are at times(often) and flawed they just mean so much to me, I first played these in 1998-2000 as a child. Great days :). I only really stopped buying after Ruby and Sapphire as I couldn't afford the consoles they were on and was quite hooked on professor layton for the DS! Make sure to balance yoyr team well have electric fire water ice grass flying ground psychic and rock and if you cant pick between them teach something else the moves you'll need ie i taught raticate blizzard bubblebeam, butterfree got taught psychic, weepinbell i taught solar beam and toxic(early) and charizard knows dig( fantastic on ground, poison, ghost, electric and fire types)
@@bewd4310 hey thanks for the tip I really appreciate it and also I hope you have a good day every day and if you post content I will sub instantly😁😁😁
@@wolfblaze1587 no problem. I might do, I'll be playing a lot of video games as I've nothing else to do. 👍
@@bewd4310 yay by the way I already subbed 20 minutes ago I really wish more people subbed to you and I hope soon you can get a game boy colour as well👍👍👍
If you think getting to level 10 before the dex is a waste of time, what would you consider getting to level 36 and thus a fully evolved starter before the first rival fight in both gens 2 and 3? Wanted to walk back into the lab like a badass with my fire chicken and big ass alligator every time after completely crushing my rival's dreams. Blue on the other hand, I knew I couldn't crush an ego that big even if I had a Mewtwo so he got spared my unfair tactics in his optional second fight.
This video just popped up in recommended videos so I started watching and then I downloaded it on my PC and starting playing it again. Still hold up for a fun game imo if you're just looking to chill.
Is Bubblebeam worth teaching my Warturtle over Water gun or normal bubble? (TM11 you get from Misty)
Oh for sure bubble beam is the stronger move, it’s a great one
I've never known you can change your moves around like you did at 16:09?
Must be an emulator thing?
I'm playing on pizza boy plus
In the anime Dodrio cant fly, they just jump veeeery high
your exeggutor creeps me out, it was like staring to my soul.. more creepier than lavender town bgm 😣
I was 4 when I got the game. I got red as I liked charizard and I also wanted to be like my brother who also had red… who was then mad at me for not getting blue!
