I’ve got one of these with its original B and S 5hp engine which is white . A superb mower with loads of power , In great original order. Bought it from a local auction , best £20 I’ve ever spent !
Lawn Mowers & Things That Make Noise Not at the moment, I bought it for nostalgia reasons, it came up local. It was the first type of mower I set out gardening with 20 odd years ago, it’s just a reminder of how far my equipment has come. I keep a few classic mowers but I, ahonda fan at heart.
They are solid. This one has the issue of the handlebars are wobbly at the base. its an early deck without the cast in supports. I have two spare decks, both with small chunks missing out of the bottom. I love them :-)
I gonna picking one of this from after market as kind of collection, but it is advert with a name "M4 Delux". I wondered if it is the same as yours or amother variant. I curious to know their difference. Are they difficult to maintain? Are parts easy enough to buy?
There was the plain m4 with a 3hp Tecumseh. A M4 deluxe with a Briggs 3.5hp and a M4 major with either a 3.5 Briggs or 5hp Briggs. The decks are overengineered. The blades are available new. Very hardy mowers. Let me know how you get on :) p.s the only parts available are the knobs for the height adjustment and blades. The engines all parts are available
@@LawnMowersThingsThatMakeNoise thanks for your reply. I understood from your message that whether it has been modified/retrofitted or not by checking it's mounted woth the original Griggs 3.5p. right? Regarding the knobs, aren't these replaceable with general fitting parts available in hardware store/tools stations. I'll keep your posted with updates.
i just purchased a vintage mountfield emblem were those based on this model? i purchased it for the very same reason as you stated in the video , all i will need to do is change the engine every 20-30 years . i thought i would purchase it give it a good refurbish and powder coat the handles , paint the deck service the engine (white 3hp briggs with auto-choke) and it should do me the rest of my life ?
The Emblem , Like My M4 is Diecast Aluminium. Keep the paint in good condition and it wont corrode. If you change the oil "At Least" once a year and Wash the foam air cleaner out and re oil it. (if its falling apart order a new one from ebay i can help you find the part number if you give me the "Model,Type,Code" stamped in the metal housing Above the exhaust or spark plug (stamped into the metal) The spark plug will do 2 years EASY, Clean it at the start of the season. if its really bad replace it with a NGK B2 LM they are around £2- £3 on ebay. Gap it to .30" Cigarette packet thickness or the thickness of the cardboard on paracetamol packets. oil should be 30W B&Q sell it but theyre expensive. Any Local Lawnmower Repair store will sell you a bottle, the engine takes 0.59 of a litre of the oil. IF no dipstick it has to be in line with the threads of the oil cap (low oil cap) DO NOT OVERFILL lol. but check it often if it burns oil. Its important to keep the blade sharpened. is it a 16" cut or a 18" cut model. new blades can be bought on ebay. get the blade sharpened twice a season "Yes grass wears the edge off" A lawnmower store will Balance it for you. You will know if its NOT balanced as the handlebars will vibrate really bad. this also happens if the blade is BENT. hehehe hope that helps ;)
@@LawnMowersThingsThatMakeNoise thanks for the informative info its a 16" and it has a brand new mulching blade fitted to it can now mulch or use grass box ;o) i have also purchased a m4 and i may do the same to that ? ;o)
@@LawnMowersThingsThatMakeNoise i finally got to work on the m4 i purchased last year and she now starts and runs quite well . it has the same grass-box as yours and i believe the engine is the original briggs 3.5hp which dates to 1977 i think which is the year the king died . , i remember it well ;o) mine has little wheel trims o with the letter M in the center .

@@wichywoo the king ? Are you referring to Elvis Presley. The boxes are rare. They make for a very nice cut. Keep the blade sharp.
