the film festival has "no censorship" rule and they invited actors and directors from every genres you can think of, plus screened all sorts of movies, so no it's not really surprising...it's just ppl were making a big fuss about it before even doing some research about the event and the ongoing changes in SA
@@piece00peace62 I mean it’s great that things are changing but homosexuality is as far as I know still illegal in SA and people still get arrested for trying to openly support gay rights so yes this is shocking. I’m glad they’ve come far enough for this and I hope things continue to change all over the world
@@tacha363 the festival is another story as I said, they already made it a rule to have no censorship for that...but when it comes to actual life, ppl don't get actually arrested for just having a different sexual orientation, what is illegal is the actual sexual interaction especially if it's made publicly (like getting caught while doing it as an example or publicizing it), and obviously ppl on the spectrum are still living their lives there without any issue as long as they are being discreet...but actually if we are being honest even straight couples can't be public about their private lives especially non-married ones so it's no really that different, at the end of the day no one knows what happens behind closed doors nor anyone will be stalking you to know about it lol so ppl should just respect that and they will be fine....life there is mostly about not being loud and leaving your private matters to yourself and not try to act as an activist for whatever cause...I know that because of the western media, ppl in the west tend to exaggerate this stuff and think of the most extreme scenarios when in fact reality is more simple and different than that but just try to not believe whatever you hear in media, since things aren't just black or white....at the end of the day each place in this earth has its own culture+religion which must also be respected and not everybody should follow one specific way (which is the west way during this era as an example) to be considered "righ"...ppl don't have to agree on every single topic but they do have to respect each other and their differences....and that's the goal of this festival as well, to create discussion on every topic (even the most controversial and taboo ones)
