Why can't they round it down and pay themselves? If it sounds like it don't make sense, well that's how asking us to round up sounds. They're the tax dodging corporation that has billions in revenue AND profit. Plus it'd be cheaper. Round down 20 cents as oppose to asking for 80 cents more. I understand they would be losing a profit on the transaction. that's the point. that's what makes it a donation. Their whole scheme is that they are the one's who will take the credit for the donation but they dont want to have to donate profit. So they guilt the customer. I don't feel guilt for that kind of stuff. They have way more money than me and have no business pressuring for donations. And then charities themselves, ya know? Has the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund made any headway on a cure for juvenile diabetes? It's been 53 years. The point is why assume an individual customer has disposable income but a company don't? A company would never forgo profit margins. Why should we? I hate how we pretend a company doesn't have human emotions, but they get treated like a human in the eyes of the law. Don't shame me. I've heard that companies have a donation quota they have to meet with these round ups. Problem is, if the amount they collect off these round ups exceeds their quota, they legally can just keep the extra money. So at some point you're literally donating to your grocery store.

I’ve worked in customer service/sales for many years and what that representative did was try to use a tactic called “assume the sale”. This tactic is against the law btw. He was supposed to ASK you if you wanted to donate and obtain your permission before adding it to your order. This practice is often overlooked by sales managers because they usually have quotas to fill, and the representatives use it because they work on some form of commission and it’s an easy way for them to also reach their sales target!
i had a car shop do this to me when i only took my car to get like one or two things done for like $400-500 dollars and then she went from saying it was 500 to like $1100 and i was like:
"wait.. what? you talking to me?? Wdym how did it jump like that?" So broke down all of the services starting with what I originally asked for before starting to list all of these services that I didn't need or agree to.
So i asked her what is that and does my car need any of that? and she said no, but it's good to do just in case. I was like nah cancel all of that extra stuff I'm only here for the 500. 😭🥴

But again management pretends that it doesn’t happen because it makes their sales number look great for their bosses and the representatives do it because they are under pressure to meet their quota. I once worked for this “very famous” phone company and I had a co worker who used to do that and earned great incentives and bonuses. Until one day he got caught and was no longer showing up for work. Because he got fired.
