A great way to spend an early morning and a cup of coffee while watching another spectacular tour. Impressed with how everyone handles those big BMWs in challenging terrain!
“Momentum is for rent”, love that!! Great film as always Dave, loved it. Those stunning drone shots are so awesome. I will have to venture to the top end one day.
Bloody well done.. to everyone involved 👌 Handling a group that large through that terrain and everyone finishing is wonderful result, clearly well prepared and with reliable logistics 😎 Congratulations
Great video Dave! I hadn’t seen that footage of my quick exit into the drink… 😂 A fun couple of weeks improving my riding and meeting a great bunch of people!
Thanks Jodi. It was great fun riding with you. Unfortunately I misplaced a camera, (its currently in Melbourne) with further great footage of you, never got back in time and unfortunately I had to progress as there's more work coming. The Beemer family are a wonderful bunch of people. I like the slo mo at the end with you girls :). Safe riding. Cheers Dave
Great video. I was really torn between the big BMW and the Africa twin ended up with the Africa Twin and couldnt be happier but these are great machines if you got the cash.
Great ride. Incredible scenery. Stayed out of the drink pretty damn good. Man those are tough crossings. If you had the new no clutch bikes you could have just rolled the throttle back and glided across. Yeah boy. Hey Dave how was your bike equipped.? It looked pretty plain but protected which is what I like. Glad everybody was safe. Wish Clubby and Nuggett could have been along. Sure they were working like dogs on a bone. If wishes were horses we would all ride one.
Hi Sam, they are challenging crossing on any bike. My bike was a Trophy so a bit of fruit on it. I'm currently writing up a review on the bike as we speak and also producing a review.
I really like how the 1300 GS looks like. But I don't know why BMW thought that it would be a good idea that the shift lever is made of plastic. I mean we are talking about the Trophy-edition, which costs in Germany with some accessories more than 23.500 euro. Greetings from the other side of the earth. Really like the style of your channel. Well done.
@@titaniumquarrion9838 It's been 14 years since I am satisfied with the same 18 years old bavarian junk. No need to waste my time researching in paid surveys. I'm the living proof of the german reliability. Thanks.
To be frank. I'm not impressed. That KLiM vest doesn't suit my type of adventure. What I find irritating is the activation button and status lights are on the back. One inflation and having to charge during the ride. I'm tempted to buy the new Alpinestar duel canister one.
Dave, i know you did a review on the f850gs a few years back. Now it's been around a few more years would you have any update to your thoughts? Reliability, popularity... General consensus from the adv guys out your way? Thanks
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTVthanks dave... The 900's a bit outside my budget unfortunately or I'd have a go. That's why I've been dabbling with the thought of the 850....i keep falling back to the old reliable t7 though.... Thanks for the reply
I'll have a full review of the bike out in a couple of weeks. So I'll keep my powder dry. That said, everyone focusses on the cosmetic differences and I haven't seen a review yet that goes into the engineered modifications to steering, frame, gear box location and the list goes on and on. It will be thorough.
It's fantastic that BMW puts on these events. No wonder GSs are selling very well, and while the Pan America is a great bike (without the BMW rattles) is IMO, dead in the water. No point in HD wanting to enter the Adv bike scene but then not truly supporting the bike outside of the USA. HD doesn't even offer an off-road ride activity at it's annual Australian HOG rallies.
Just goes to show where you can take a big bike with a lot of effort. Must say I would rather take my modified CRF300. All credit to the riders. Cheers
I do watch other people ride from the window while sipping my coffee. Some churn up the parking. You've got good mechanical sympathy over the stutter bumps. My OilHead made the same sounds and I assumed it had something to do with the shaft and final drive. It may be something you can't hear in an enclosed shell. All was fine after more than 200k km's.
Didn’t come across as an advertisement to me. It was more about the trip and what people were doing than the brand. I don’t ride BMWs and didn’t feel I was trying to be sold one as is the case on other Safari videos for various brands. If anything it showed the additional difficulties and level skill required on these big bikes in terrain less skilled riders on trail/Enduro would eat up with ease.
Good question. I never found out. It's not as obvious when riding the bike but the on board mic definitely picks it up, particularly on the rougher stuff.
Your view is completely at odds with the video before your eyes. Multiple river crossings are filmed and from my experience actually riding the bike it cruised through the majority but as stated sometimes it doesn't go well and a rock, the size of a football puts you off as what happened to me. That happens with all bikes. Also you comment about torque and HP is completely at odds with my experience actually riding the bike. The bike pulls from nothing and the clutch, once warm allows you to get that power to the ground. I have no doubt a 21 inched front wheel would do a better job.

They do all right. There's not many place in the world you see them ridden through terrain like that in a large group.
Good to see you again Dave. A great ride and machine.
Thanks Sam.

20:05 Dave have you ever had problems with the final drive seals when it's hot and you do a water creek crossing mate.
No problems reported, that I'm aware of.

Ahh that old chestnut.
You may want to do a little research into reliability and customer satisfaction surveys for BMW😉

If you had to choose 1250 GS or 1300 GS?

i always say to everyone, AUSTRALIA is the best country for adventure riders.
We are so very fortunate.
What is that constant chatter/knock sound while riding on rocks? Is that centrestand?
I’m not sure. It wasn’t that intrusive riding it but it seems loud on the audio for some reason
@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV thank you for fast reply 😊
Hey Dave, Great vid as always. Random question - what model Leatt boots are you wearing??
For that trip I wore the 5.5 Flexlock Enduro Boot - Graphene. - these are not water proof but you don't want them to be in this type of wet ride.
A couple of guys recently rode their Harley Road Kings into El Questro through the water crossings quite ok...hmmm
I've have ridden through there many times. Sometimes the rocks are squashed in and sometimes they're not.

I think it has to be viewed with the whole trip in mind.
Is this the first BMW Safari with the new 900 Enduros? How'd they go?
Very bloody well. The 21 inch front is great for rocky river crossings
Were they all beemers?
Yes, it was a BMW Safari

U need to come ride in South Africa. Those long straight roads are as boring as Aussie rugby is at the moment😊
We ride the roads that we've been given but I can assure you they're anything but boring if you want to stay upright at speed.
I would NEVER do this to my GSA1250, far to expensive and heavy machine to do this. Great to watch though.
Fair enough!

You can tell how much of a pig that thing is with how much it struggles to get through the water crossings even with all that torque and HP.
