    I found your channel about 3 weeks ago and am enjoying immensely. 👍 I just ordered a Chinese framing saw off EBay because it’s more efficient than my coping saw.

    Very nice. I liked your treatment of the end grain both on the bench side and the sliding dog block side. Nice touch.

    Great job... Really like your square pop-up bench dogs. I'm gonna have to get a set of magnetic latches to play around with to see how you did that. ;) Thanks for the video.

    You could attach a low profile metal plane stop to the top of one of your drop in dogs.

    • @johnzzhu
      @johnzzhu  Рік тому

      You could do that. But I need my bench top to be protruding-metal free.

    Beautiful video!
    ( As usual).
    Im interested on your low Carpenter bench: that bench you used for the long rip cuts. I saw chinese master uses It as a sawing horse, mortising bench and a large chair. Id like to build something like that, its super smart. Are there any online sources or tips to follow?

    • @johnzzhu

      It is a 4 leg 8 splay bench. It's not a special bench, it is a common piece of peasant furniture in China. Here is my video making a shortened version of this peasant bench. ua-cam.com/video/5cTlj3DnUcs/v-deo.html

    Ratchet with a 1/4" bit drive drill makes for a much easier(slightly slower) job of drilling a hole in a awkward spot than an egg-beater drill will...

    Love the spring idea, however if they always pop up a set height how do you plane thinner stock? I noticed when you pinched the stock in between the dogs, the dogs actually sat up above the level of the board, which would make it impossible to face plane. Likewise, do your little dog hole covers also get in the way if you’re trying to clamp stock down and you have those covers under the board? Thanks for the video! Got a lot of great ideas from this!

      I thought about this too. I would place a shim under each end of the workpiece so it rises proud of the dogs, then plane away.

    John, I don’t have a big strong face vise. Do you remember where you got that one? Really nice work! Lots of chisel work but looks like it was worth the extra effort! Thanks for sharing!
    I thought I asked about the kids. Haven’t seen them since the toy/game/learning projects you built for them.
