Not gonna read the rest yet. But impressive showing on high tides from Philip. Not sure I like the map though. Seems the player who controls water after the initial skirmish always wins.
After yesterday's emotional ending of this tournament and stream, it kinda got to me. I wanted to write a 30 page essay about how bad the last years been treating be badly from time to time and how I'm thankful for your streams and content. However, you said it yesterday yourself, how the stream is such a great escape from IRL drama, as it was sometimes for you so I won't dig into that. I just want to express how happy I am, that a humble amazing guy is living by something he enjoys and spreads the joy to other and to be honest against all odds, as this 22 year old game got popular and I think that you took a huge part in that :) Never change, Tristan, you're amazing, keep up the good work and stay positive.
John the Fearless is actually Philippe the good's father, don't know if the burgundian's campaign stated that, but it makes the fight that more dramatic.
Spoiler Alert: That fan zone comment was spot on! Funny to see T90 being so annoying with the guesses and then being like HOLD ON. You are thinking to much to fast.
Post the final already, I had to go to sleep at game 3. Some of us have REAL jobs you know! Loved everything up until then. Tell Dave he is the bestest.
Is a good question. If you are meaning the fight at 1:42:18, then the major reason is that yellow was missing the last archer armour, which gives +2 pierce. This means the arbs are doing 4 damage a shot (6+3 into 3+2), whereas after the upgrade, they'd be taking 2. Granted, the are doing 9 damage back, so they should still win, but the skirms where damaged and outnumbered 22 to 15. Two died before they even fired. After that, at 1:42:38, yellow has to manually target the skirms, as otherwise they will throw all their shots in blue's mangonel, which made that fight unfair. After 1:43:20, blue's bombards make sure yellow never has enough skirms to have a fair fight again. If you play yourself, if you ever want to answer archers with skrims from the same age, make sure you have the armour upgrade - its easy to miss, but makes them so much more tanky.
I just HAD to look that John the Fearless/Philip the Good thang up! lol. And it's TRUE! What are the odds they'd be fighting each other in the Quarter Finals of Hidden Cup 4?! If only they'd known way back in the 14th Century! haha "Born at Dijon on July 31, 1396, Philip the Good was the son of Duke John the Fearless and Margaret of Bavaria." Source: The Interwebs lol
I'm not going to spoil the results, I just wanna say that I'm 95% sure about 3 players. Ivaylo is Viper, John the Fearless is Hera and Philip the Good is Liereyy.
Very soft spoilers here edit to hide main comment better Gotta love how in game 3, at 1:10:00 John changes the angle his knights are attacking the mango from to prevent the mango from spotting the castle. little things are so fascinating to see
Spoiler: Game 3: casters--there is one player making the play of the game by taking out the most important units of the other player. Let's look at something else. Grr!!!!!
Humorously changing Wikipedia articles is an American RIGHT, dammit. I once changed it to list Ted Cruz as one of the founding members of the band Stryper. That stayed up for a good month before someone spotted it. I also changed the town nickname for Moreno Valley, California to “The Valley of Gwangi”. My brother and I called it that. So technically it was a nickname for the town.
For the Wikipedia edits: please put it into an "In popular culture" section, if you have to, explaining that there is an AOE2 campaign featuring this person, and following this it was a hero chosen as an alias in Hidden Cup 4. (Edits like en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_the_Fearless&type=revision&diff=1013756043&oldid=1013313286 are just not useful - that was rightfully reverted.)
They get wheelbarrow/handcart free. That's not a farming thing exactly. Also, archaeologically and historically they are known to be farmers. Where are you getting your facts?

In case anyone was confused, Phillip the Good was actually John the Fearless' son
The sequence gets fun if you go even to their predecessors, with: John the Good -> Philip the Bold -> John the Fearless -> Philip the Good.

I was confused how bad the skrims in the last game did vs arbs. Can someone explain how they melted so quickly?

I checked the wikipedia and sadly they appear to have edited that detail out :D
People were complaints about the color long before Dave brought it up man
24:11 Where are the Battle Elephants? They'd be awfully good against rams
41:40 Nothing about this skirmisher-vil battle made any sense. I LOL'd pretty hard when T90 said it was pathetic.

High tides is such a one sided map. The player winning water always wins. Also unlike Islands, once u win water, you can't make a come back

Also, I'm less sure about it but I have the feeling that Admiral is Mr. Yo.
You'll just have to keep watching to find out. However, I heard that Hera was on AOE Zone while the finals were being played live.
I wonder if we saw DauT in this set.
i just got spoiled from Wikipedia ....... fml
