Nice to see a fellow chonk :) I've been playing gas arrow / poisonburst chayula monk since the start on SSF and it's pretty good, no trouble so far. I'm using a weapon swap wand setup with wither duration and curse nodes on it, it's pretty convenient if you want to go that direction; can also get some int on focus to help with gearing.
Ive been looking to do some sort of poison monk. So glad i found this. Will definately be trying out this build. Wanting to play a ranged Chonk but not a big fan of the staff playstyle. Cant wait to try this.
Completely agree about the HC comment at the moment there aren’t enough defensive ascendancies that incentivize anything but infernalist lol died 9 times trying to get through the campaign. Some of them were super funny like testing the “drowned” debuff in act 3 😅 Anyways switched to infernalist and clean swept through normal/cruel and cruel ascendancy HC SSF. We just need more defensive layers for anything not spamming ES, infernalist, cloak of flame.
Hey Goratha, I also tried to make a Chayula monk work using Archmage, poisons and crit with Hexblast and the Plaguefinger gloves. It has very high potential DPS as far as I can calculate for a level 34 gem level. I have a video on the topic if you ever find the time to see. Thanks
@Goratha but dex and stats on ammy or ring too. I'm only on the leveling build so far but like foes the end game version got flushed out trade stats on gear or just the ssf you used personally
I think the no spirit for supports is a bug. Other ascendancy skills, that also have no spirit cost, will require spirit cost for supports. and addionally the wording sates "additional reservation: xx Spirit" t cost, which should flat add to anything
@@samnickerson9255 Life Remnants from blod mage also doesnt have a reservation and no activation, but you still get to pay spirit for supports. So its a bug for sure. Or maybe its a feature to help people play the most underplayed ascendancy
But you can add "mana support gems" to auras and they don't add anything because spirit gems don't have mana costs. I believe it is the same for this skill, it has no spirit so there's nothing to add to it. And to be clear I don't mean zero so it adds 10 to that zero, it literally has NO SPIRIT so you cannot add anything to "nothing". Programmers will get this.
I'll be highly interested in how your version works out. I played pretty much the exact same tree in SSF and it fell off a cliff damage wise in t15+. It was a super comfy and safe journey to that point though due to the easy zoning of gas arrow. Got the character to lvl 91 and maybe I'll find some mircale upgrade with my next build, but for now it's benched for sure.
made it to 6 links and I cannot sustain my mana. I assume this is why you only show 5 links, but it seems weird to skip out on extra links due to mana sustain vs addressing in the build. Any ideas?
Are you running clarity? To be honest I had no mana issues on my 6-link, getting more +mana on belt/rings/ect can help a lot too, and INT gives mana (I have 140 for my helmet). Worst case scenario you can instill Deep Trance or Mental Toughness.
Do you think its worth routing for Acrobatics? From what I've seen, lots of Evasion heavy builds love it and it doens't seem like it'd screw your tree pathing too too much?
Pretty common to start monk way a lightning arrow until you get ice strike at least. Poison doesn't feel that good initially so elemental bow works a bit better before you switch to poison
I leveled with Poisonburst from the start till level 22. You can level as Lightning Arrow + Lightningrod early on if you want though. Also I think explode Gas Arrow is slightly better in campaign before poison nodes, but you can do poison early too.
I'm did a poison gas self detonate Ingnite warrior and was surprised at how good it is. I walked into tier 7s. Barrage is great for exploding the gas on ignited foes but it does very little for just the cloud. I scaled all the start area projectile damage with Hulking form.
Inspired by this I started ssf, switched to gas arrow at 22 and I'm doing zero damage. Not sure where I'm going so wrong at this point, but I think I ll just throw in firewall for now.
chaos damage can crit, yes, poison itself cannot crit, but you can apply a poison from a crit and it would be higher damage because the hit is higher - note that gas cloud (the cloud part) can't crit though
You should put all the wither nodes on your weapon swap tree. You can take the attack damage stuff or whatever on your main tree, and then the wither stuff for your swap. And then obviously set Eye Of Winter to only ever use your second weapon set.
@Goratha I've been trying really hard to think how to apply weapon set passives to my builds and that definitely ended up being the best use I could think of for my poison build! I think it's going to be a while before we see weapon set passives being used to the fullest - they add a whole other dimension to build crafting that I think people haven't really adapted to yet. Plus there's the fact that there's not just one way to use them; sometimes you'll split your trees into clear versus single-target, sometimes into different elements, sometimes into damage versus utility, sometimes into different weapon types. Definitely my favourite aspect of theory crafting in POE2!
drop vine arrow for toxic growth, it combos amazingly with gas arrow and explodes like u were using a fire skill cause youre poisoning the growths. i also run rain of arrows/spiral volley. you can go high es with the leech node this route too, toxic growth explosions refill your " life bar" easily, rain of arrows is there for debuffs and pin generated frenzy charges for spiral volley w/ combat frenzy corrosion goes well on gas arrow along with comorbidity and bursting plague. es leech route is very strong, double time of chayula flames is a waste when they spawn so frequently.
Been wanting to try a chy monk but not being able to use any aura stuff keeps me from doing it. What I'm really curious about though is if you've tested chaos damage scaling your gas cloud damage? I've done several tests myself and so far it doesn't seem like chaos damage scales the poison damage from the cloud at all.
Damage gained as chaos scales the cloud, and scales poison with chaos % damage, but chaos % damage does not scale poison directly. For example if you don't proc Reality Rending damage gained as chaos and you have no flames, you wouldn't gain any damage from % chaos damage on tree - because the Gas Arrow is counted as Physical damage, while physical damage does scale it. Also this build doesn't use the no spirit ascendancy, as yeah, it's pretty bad unless you're doing no hit runs.
@Goratha would you recommend to level up eye of winter to 20? Or keep it at the base gem level, when it is available to get, to keep int low? Especially since it is in ssf Ofc it will change if they add more crafting options
I think the difference here is the bloodmage one is a buff, and the into the breach one is more of a radius effect around you. But yeah it could be a bug or it could be intended, hard to say.
Oooo stirit supports on Into the breach? Il try it out. Also what you'll get for last point? I went for Chaos res cause getting to 85 with almost no chaos res on gear is nice. But instant mana leach has also interesting interaction: In to the breach blue flames should be instant. And they are definitely boosted with life (red ones) or mana leach from tree.
one thing for defensive purpose, with you playing evasion, acrobatics is like, such a game changer, i can't see an evasion based build without it because it's soo good, defensively it's night and day
Not really, you lose too much evasion just to make the evasion "evade" spells. You will end up with bad atk evade and bad spell evade instead of one big chunk atk evade like 90%.
@@GE_Photon_Lord You will evade AOE attacks with it, which has been most of my trouble defensivly. I dont care too much about spells since my ele-res will eat that anyway. Without phys reduction those slams hit for a lot.

On the fire scaling bit: "Gain" chaos dmg does NOT scale with the base dmg type but the type it is becoming, in this case chaos. Gain works different to conversions. It explains it on the gain tooltip.
Great video! How sure are you you can't scale gas arrow with crit? Tooltip says it's affected by crit gems like inevitable crit and supercritical. The poison seems based on the hit damage of the arrow, eventhough it doesn't hit. Which makes it logical you could scale it with crit.
I tested it for a while, and it never proc'd the % dmg bonus from critting, it's possible it's counted as critting but not actually critting though, so probably could do another test for damage numbers specifically. Keep in mind the actual arrow can crit but I'm pretty sure the cloud can't.
Have you consider using ingenuity+ double Ming and go es/evasion for defense or going full mana for defense? Not sure how much base damage gas arrow have tho
Nice attempt, i tried the same with scaling flat damage through ele damage quiver with +2 + Widowhail and converting it with original sin so you can scale more with in chaos damage on tree
Game is better in SSF, time to believe it, who's going to hack or dupe you if you have no currency because you used it all crafting, everything drops you found, and it's more challenging leading to more game satisfaction.
@@Goratha i was trying something like this with whirlwind strike. the gimmick was to run tempest bell+whirlwind to 10 stack of mantra, cast mantra which makes next attack do % chaos damage than switch the bow and cast gas arrow.
Gas Cloud is a very cool skill. Its goes two drasticly different directions. Im play an lgnite titan that self detonates by using the poison to trigger the explode on broken armour. Right now at 73 I can self ignite with three enemies 90% of the time. Edit: Im using rain of arrows to pin for power charges and the rain is the back up ignite for exploding the gas. I also messed with the 50% explode on death ignited Gem, but the timing is terrible. In the campagn I use detonating shot to trigger the failed self detonates.
Keep in mind while pf gets double poison stacks it does not get gained as chaos procs like chayula. And beacuse each poison has higher dmg on monk it makes vine arrow and plague bearer stronger as well.
he explained that reality bending +into the breach adds damage. so let's say your stack is 3. if you proc reality rending at 7%, you get 100% extra dmg on hit which is 100% extra poison damage so 3 stack of poison = 6 stacks for this hit than into the breach add's 7% damage per stack of chuyuya for max of 10 stacks. say you add 5/10 stacks. 6 stacks becomes 8 stacks in effective hit damage. that is why it works as well it does.

Just not enough support right now. There’s no melee skills that convert to chaos and you can’t stack damage before the conversion in PoE2. Poison melee works but like he said you need plaguefinger, not sure how reliable chances are for it in ssf. Edit - once they add Shadow/Daggers we can actually start cookin
@@Goratha but the only physical skill with high base % hit is Flicker strike at 328%. i don't see how you make reality rending have as high damage as gas arrow.
@@Geechi_ the problem is how Flame of Chayaya works. in order to gain flame of chayaya, you need press mantra than kill enemies. for every enemy you kill, you gain a buff of flame of chayaya which boost your chaos damage by 8% per stack. at 10 stacks, 80% of your damage is added as extra chaos damage(160% with lucid dream). the problem is that boss room do not allow you to gain stacks of chayaya because there is no mobs. you would need find a way to either have like 400% duration increase in Flame of chayaya stacks so your timer is long enough to grab into the breach stacks and keep them OR you need find a way to kill mobs/summon mobs to gain stacks in boss fights. that's the issue. Poison melee at best would just be high damage with some poison on the side. If Mantra was on-hit instead of on-kill, Chaos melee monk would work easily. in fact it would have direct synergy with poison because both chaos and physical would synergize with the class.

Vitality adds reservation to demonform for example.

Within the context of the ascendancy, you don't have anything that replaces spirit to something else

this will work fine on pathfinder too, the interactions with gain chaos won't apply, so you'd just go for more poisons instead

I really liked corrosive poison and armor explosion, it felt pretty nice for clear. Toxic Growth is nice for single target.

it just gives you attack speed per 25 dex and flat lightning per 10 int, so no, but you would go for as much int as possible if you did do this setup

Yeah, chaos resistance for sure, and yeah the leech from breach would work with leech nodes too.

it's because poison is based on hit damage, and ed/contagion are damage over time abilities with no hit
So instead of taking barrage take contagion, it'll spread your posion for you!

The free auras on Into the Breach is bug I think. BloodMage also has a zero reservation node but the added auras add spirit cost.

I think poison melee can work but I'm ssf and don't have the unique gloves yet.
once we get more skills added to the game I think melee poison chayula monk might could be more of a thing
Just not enough support right now. There’s no melee skills that convert to chaos and you can’t stack damage before the conversion in PoE2. Poison melee works but like he said you need plaguefinger, not sure how reliable chances are for it in ssf.

@@Goratha but the only physical skill with high base % hit is Flicker strike at 328%. i don't see how you make reality rending have as high damage as gas arrow.
@@Geechi_ the problem is how Flame of Chayaya works. in order to gain flame of chayaya, you need press mantra than kill enemies. for every enemy you kill, you gain a buff of flame of chayaya which boost your chaos damage by 8% per stack. at 10 stacks, 80% of your damage is added as extra chaos damage(160% with lucid dream). the problem is that boss room do not allow you to gain stacks of chayaya because there is no mobs. you would need find a way to either have like 400% duration increase in Flame of chayaya stacks so your timer is long enough to grab into the breach stacks and keep them OR you need find a way to kill mobs/summon mobs to gain stacks in boss fights. that's the issue.
Poison melee at best would just be high damage with some poison on the side. If Mantra was on-hit instead of on-kill, Chaos melee monk would work easily. in fact it would have direct synergy with poison because both chaos and physical would synergize with the class.
