I had this exact same thing happen to my 4 year old doe, she was literally acting the same, no signs of pain no swelling no warm or hot spots and she limped around for nearly 2 weeks, I would give antiinflammatories/pain meds and one day she was just fine, vet said probably pulled a muscle jumping into the fence or jumping off the (goat playground)

The way she's moving and rolling that shoulder in a few shots, it definitely looks like it's the problem. She's stiffer/hitching in the shoulder than in the actual leg. It's very possible she just pulled/sprained it. Fingers crossed it will heal up perfectly.

Reminds me of my Aussie when she dislocated her shoulder jumping into the truck years ago. She never showed pain and didnt cry when manipulating it. I had no idea it was dislocated for a couple weeks when i finally had a vet check her out when it didnt want to improve. She would avoid standing on it if she stood still yet would walk on it with a limp. She did the same stance of holding it off the ground straight legged. I would think an xray would show its out of place though so thats probably not it. BUT that doesnt mean she didnt dislocate it and managed to get it back in on her own and the muscles are stretched out making the shoulder unstable so she avoids using it. If thats the case the she will improve as the muscles tighten back up to support it again since thats all that really holds it in place.

    • @cloudedcolour5329

dislocation was possible, but it would have shown on xray. Also she would've been uncomfortable for movement

@@cloudedcolour5329 it would only show if STILL dislocated. If she popped it out and back in and just has loose muscles or residual bruising in the area it wont show on an x-ray. And prey animals are build to mask pain so they dont get targeted...

We had this happen to a buckling. He decide a nasty headbutts from a larger buck. We actually thought he had a breadstick fracture. It took him about 3 weeks to really put weight on his front leg. We did place his feeder higher off the ground so that he had to stand on a step to reach it. Vet said it was good PT for him. Separation from other bigger more aggressive/dominate goats helped too.

Maybe needs an animal chiropractor. A pinched nerve or something just out of whack. Hope she gets better. My mother in laws leg is not working and no feeling. Doctors couldn't figure it out with a ton of test. Now seeing chiropractor and he's working on upper neck spine area. We are seeing hope. She can now move her toe and sometimes her foot. I used to take my dog to chiro. Her back would get off, you could feel hot spot by spine and she'd leak urine. After chiro she was better. Who knew a chiropractor worked on animals!

Yet she limped for a while but the antiflammatories worked. I also did some massage on that shoulder and leg every day for a week or so and Liniment that’s safe (it's sold for horses & smells like spearmint). She’s not limping now. Hopefully, Maybelline just needs some TLC and time!

She may have pulled a muscle up in her shoulder. looking at the angle she is comfortable putting weight on it makes it seem possible. The muscle is probably pulling when she's flat on the ground, but when she jumps up may ease the tension in it. *Not a vet* i had a dog pull a shoulder muscle and do something similar, he would stand his upper half onto the couch to stretch it

Not a Vet either, but been around a lot of performance animals (dogs, horses, sheep used at herding trials who get soft tissue injuries) and I agree, this looks like a shoulder muscle problem. The way she's using her front looks like it's a higher issue than the pastern, knee, or hoof area. Painkillers seems the only route at this time to get her to keep using those muscles so she doesn't injure the other side by overuse.

Hi, my dog had a similar problem when she was younger, she had pulled a set of muscles in her neck while playing with another dog. It took a month of pain meds and no excessive exercise, plus we had to remove her collar so she wouldn't catch it while scratching or if we forgot and grabbed for it. She just wouldn't put weight on the front right leg. It has returned on occasions but now we know just to restricted movement especially jumping up onto high furniture. I hope this helps you and good luck.

Hello... I love how you love your Goats! I know goats, are not dogs.. but the symptoms Mabeline is suffering with... the muscle mass loss in the shoulder and leg, the not touching the foot to the ground, the non reaction of pain in the initial noticing that there is a problem with the animal. makes me think it could be valley fever, or a some other fungal thing? with as dry as it has been here in Cochise county the last 2 monsoons seasons. my Dog had caught valley fever and watching you examine Miss Mabeline, Valley Fever came to mind. some blood work to check her titer count would rule it out and reveal any anomiles. Can Goats Get Valley Fever?

Any injuries like this I would always treat with vitamin E. Syringe full of cod liver oil morning and night plus injections of Vitamin E for about 3 days and they're on the mend. Even helped with breaks. Love a natural cure when I can.🇦🇺

I know nothing about goats, but I do know something about big dogs like Dane (I've been owned by Newfoundlands for the last 20 years or so). Having had a big dog suddenly go lame and intermittently use a foreleg or not bear weight on it at all ... well, it turned out to be a pinched nerve in the dog's neck. A veterinary chiropractor was able to feel the misalignment of the vertebrae that caused the nerve issue in the foreleg. X-ray confirmed the misalignment and it was so so so minimal ... but, it created a huge, visible, more often than not, lameness. Chiropractic adjustments over a few weeks helped relieve the 'pinch', and gentle exercise, and massage, with minimal use of anti-inflammatories, and hey presto! 150 pound dog didn't limp again for the next 10 years of his life.
    Just a thought. Good luck!

I know I'm comparing dogs to goats but my poodle had a similar problem where she wouldn't put her foot down and was limping. I gave her some baby aspirin and within a day or two she was all better. I bet it's a sprain where another goat rammed her shoulder.

Try checking between her toes it could be something as simple as a seed head working its way into the soft skin and hidden by hair. Just a thought. Good luck with her I hope she recovers.

Have you checked the hooves? In the middle part where you trim the hair away. Try massages on her back and neck. o they have like our sciatica nerve? what about a stone bruise or a cactus needle even the tiniest. Soak it in Epson Salt. I had to do my horse and yes it was a hot soak.

I can definitely see something isn't right. I have no experience with goats at all but look into essential oils that can be used safely on goats for nerve/tissue damage issues. I can not express how many times I've seen essential oils work in other animals including my mom's horses, our guinea pigs, rabbits, quail. Just a thought though to think about exploring. We all want Maybelline to be better and we all know how special she is to you. ((Hugs)) from this Iowa gal, keep us all posted on how she is doing please.

I've had this happen to a doe last year. Ours ended up having a fence staple in her hoof. It was not deep but enough to cause a limp. Hopefully its something simpler 💗🙏
