Great ride! We’ve rode our HD all over the USA for 25 years. We’re retired and now off roading is our newest adventure in our Maverick T, with 6500 miles on her. As I type we’re in Kingman Az completing the AZPT. I never gave what you’re doing a thought until now. I may be picking your brain in the future for tips. I also just started using Gaia, liking it better than Avenza. Be safe and keep the vids coming.
Yep, I TRIED to record tracks, but I forgot to push "RESUME" a few mornings and lost a LOT of tracks. The gpx files I followed required detours for the ONE snowpack that just won't melt and the around the 55'" or less restricted trails in Utah above Torrey. Let me know if you plan to ride it and I'll try to compile the route into one gpx file instead of the TEN or so that I have now.
www.gaiagps.com/public/QtT1OjPcea3zwdm9ck1wVh9F That’s the track on GAIA - you’ll need GAIA to see it...it’s missing a section just because we forgot to hit “Resume” one morning in Idaho. From where it stops near Bear Lake, we just rode up to Bear Lake and then over to connect with the upper Trans America Trail (TAT), which is available for download on the TAT site.
Would you be willing to share your more exact mapping details with me? I did the lower 48 in 9 days on My Indian Roadmaster .... this is in my wheelhouse to try! Thanks in advance if you can. Eric
Mine held up well - had I swapped wheel bearings before I left, it would’ve had ZERO serious breakdowns for the whole 8,650 miles, which, considering it started the trip with about 27,000 miles on the odometer, is PRETTY good. The other X3 that was riding with us had been used for drag racing, etc. before the trip - he had to swap the transmission THREE times during this trip AND managed to strip ALL the splines out of his secondary clutch. Fortunately, on my X3, the wheel bearings were the only issue that slowed me down, which messed up the rubber boots on the axles and took out the rotors, but if the wheel bearings wouldn’t have gone... Also had a BIT of trouble with aftermarket power steering- it went out and then tried to suicide me a few times. For the upcoming 10,000 mile loop in a couple weeks, I’ve got RELATIVELY fresh wheel bearings on it, new axles, and a new OEM power steering unit. And a fresh clutch. Also put on a nine gallon auxiliary fuel tank and electric transfer pump. It weighs more now than it EVER did, so that concerns me a bit, but we’ll SEE how it hold up.
Amazing
Damn, that looks like a blast
That’s just freakin awesome. So many cool trips to take on an x3 a guy could spend a lifetime
Very cool. Save them tracks!
What an AWESOME trip.
Awesome adventure. Hope to join you one of these days.

You know what the problem with your videos are AL?
They are too short.
Great fun, thanks for sharing
Thanks! I make em on my iPhone, sometimes editing and rendering at pee stops - much longer and they crash the iPhone 🤠.
Need to post the GPS line for it....
Awesome i would love to have time to do this...

I’m interested in this route,
Did you track it?
And if so would you share it?
This would be awesome

Be happy to help with the planning in ANY way I can.
That looks like a whole lot of fun! Did the machines hold up well on such a long ride?
