What perfect timing! I just went shopping for my Imbolc celebrations and bought a few things for a pocket altar as I was thinking of creating a new one!
I LOVE the Morning Star incense. One of my favorites. And I don't currently have a travel alter packed as it's been a while since I've been gone long enough to need one - BUT, I have "book boxes" that I've used (boxes that look like books). That are "witchy" themed. One says 'Book of Spells' and another says 'Witches Guide Potions & Poisons' that I literally got at the Dollar Tree. I use them for decoration if I'm not using them for travel.
I love the idea of drawing sigils into the covers (or on paper that fits into the covers) of the travel altar! My altar. This isn't really a travel altar, but since I live in a college dorm and have to move regularly and periodically take my stuff home, I have a system where all of my discreet (more crafts-y) stuff goes into a shoebox, while the more obviously witchy things go into my backpack. If I am strategic about placement, I can fit a surprising amount in a pencil case and the rest goes into the bottom of the backpack and gets covered by books and electronics. Most of my sabbat dorm decor can pass as normal seasonal dorm decor, and the rest is mostly stuff from nature, which I dispose of every couple sabbats anyway. While I love the shoebox idea, it can get problematic for me because my family might wonder why I'm so attached to an old shoebox and maybe even peek into it! This is why I mostly just keep things I'm okay with my family looking at in the shoebox, and the rest stays on my person (a.k.a. the backpack). After a move-in, I take everything out and set things up as best as I can. It's working wonderfully right now, as I have a spare desk at my disposal, but it might be more problematic in the autumn, when I won't have the luxury of so much space for my witchy work. Eh, I'll figure something out.
for a little while i was using a mint tin (the ouija board one!) to carry some of my favorite crystals for protection, as well as a pendulum (i have two) and some sticks of cinnamon. i carried it around in my backpack with me my first year of college!
Hi I'm not a witch but I'm interested in it. Just wondering if someone can point me in the right direction to start off my witch journey? It would really mean alot.
Bitch What look up beginner friendly videos and follow your gut, if you are interested in deities go study deities. think herbal magik sound neat? go study it! trust yourself, intuition is important :))
I'm also starting on my journey. So far, what I've done is watch a freaking lot of beginner-friendly videos (like this channel), and researched, researched, researched. I've first researched the different types of practices and beliefs (Wicca and the different neo-pagans movements, the different kinds of magick, etc.), and then went from there to research the subjects I was more interested in. I got myself an amazingly beautiful tarot deck that I love (and apparently, we're vibing together, because my readings so far have been super accurate :o ), and then decided to join my love of teas with a more spiritual approach (no active craft yet, just researching until I'm comfortable enough), and the pull I have towards some crystals since I've been very young (so, again, researching the different crystals, their use, etc., but I'm definitely getting some stones that have been calling to me soon, lol). So yeah, my advice: research as much as you can and want, find the subjects that interest you, research some more, then baby steps towards a more active practice.
Im gonna be living in a van soon and although i wont have to HIDE my altar it would just make it easier to have a travel sized one. This video was super helpful and gave me a ton of ideas !
Yes I have a lovely small travel altar. Ill try to post a pic. I use it when I travel out of town. I do need to remember to keep it 'alive' by making sure the supplies are fresh each time I take it.
Yes I work with travel alters all the time I enjoy placing whole lemons on my altars with cinnamon sage ginger basil vanilla n lavender with peppermint oil pink salt and black sand along with some scented oils n candles n sage sticks and garlic cloves n yellow n orange flowers surrounded in many of huge crystal collection above all of my many different Buddha statues with full glasses of water on each table
Hey Olivia!!!! I love your channel. It has been a beacon of hope for me ever since I moved to India. I have been targeted by bullies when people found out i was a witch and this community has really helped me cope with all the shit that has happened. I started practicing witchcraft 2 years ago on my thirteenth birthday. Which was right around the time i started watching your videos. If it wasn't for you I wouldn't be the witch i am today! Thank you so much!
I'm a minor witch who recently started practicing and who practices in secret. I've been looking to make an altar for some time and this video really helped! Thank you ❤️
I have used my IPad as a travel alter, I use crystals to tune it, ProCreate to paint it, notes to write digital petitions, music to brings in life and vibration, and again something physical to ground it (I have small flat charged stones in my protective case), it is really easy and straightforward. Just don’t forget to tune your machines and chargers any other time, you don’t want them to go out of tune and go all cranky and less protective.
For an example one of the quickest quick fixers I use is the mix of intentional music bringing in vibrations, the use of my crystal charged digital pen and the chalk and eraser tool in notes. So simple yet extremely effective.
I never thought about this, but now that I've watched it, I see the benefits of a travel altar. This is huge! Thank you so much for making this video. :)
Getting ready to travel soon, this popped up in the recommended, somehow hadn’t seen it yet! I’m gonna dig around in my storage and see what I can repurpose for a travel altar. This is great!
This video is so helpful! I am now a college student and I was worrying about having an altar or not. I will definitely be using a shoebox that I have and I will be happy with it! Blessed be!
In a few months I'm moving from a large room where I can openly practice in the country to a small studio apartment in the city with my mom :/. This video is hella helpful for getting ideas for smaller alters that I can use in the city. :D
I live on a boat, so I keep everything in a vintage picnic basket I found. My house moves A LOT as the tides change and waves move etc. So I can't leave anything out that could fall over, and I don't have space to have a dedicated altar out all the time. The picnic basket is a cute and low key way to take it on hikes with me too!
I am about to downsize to an RV full time, so this is huge for me! Thanks for uploading this video! I have so many things I work with or keep around for my practice and now I have to minimize what I take with me and use in my practices, so this video came just in time. You've already inspired me in ways that I can begin downsizing my altar space to a box.
I used to have a shoebox altar when I was still living at home and in the broom closet, but I really need to put together a smaller, portable altar for travelling
This was very insightful and helpful. A word of advice.... keep your black candle wrapped in tissue paper, if you're going to store it in your altar. Black absorbs energy around it. The candle will deplete the energy of the items around it unless it is covered away from them.
This was an amazing video !! I absolutely loved the creative ways to always be able to take my Alter with me. Thank you so much for sharing !! ❤ I was wondering if you could do a video on the Cedar bundles you made. I would like to know how to make them and what the string color means if possible. 😊
I've never actually used a travel altar before! I have a permanent altar set up in our office, so I don't have much need for one (I don't really go anywhere lol), but these are such cute and great ideas for on the go spellwork and craftwork. Thanks for the suggestions!
I have a small travel alter in an altoids tin as well and haven't really got to use it outside the house much as its been too cold but in the summer I plan to use it for trips, camping, or going on little adventures. I love how you can always change it out of you need to and really have to be detailed on what you do and don't choose to bring with. In mine I was able to fit: + small crystals chips in a recycled small glitter container(might need to replace it though as its not the best) + a small velvet sachet + some babies breath + some birthday candles + need to add matches!(I love the incense ones you have!) + a small pendulum chain to add a ring I'm wearing onto + a small flower of life Crystal charging board + a mini two sided pendulum board + rocks with all 4 elements on them + two tumbled crystals + and maybe something else I forgot I added haha I'm just going off memory So a lot can fit into that little thing!
I have a travel witch kit in a little tin that once held danish butter cookies. Birthday candles, lighter, tealight cup, little jar of banishing powder, another of rosemary, protection charm, and to-go packets of salt, pepper, and sugar. Like you, I generally only use it when I'm going out of town for an extended period, and I may add items like crystals or anointing oil or cord for knot magic depending on what I think I might need. The tin fits easily into my travel bag. I'm very used to doing witchcraft with whatever I have on hand, but it's nice to have the reassurance of some go-to items, just in case.
i wanna make one of these, since i'm on the broom closet, and i have two boxes that are perfect for it! one is from my watercolor pencils, it has a van gogh painting on the lid and it's the perfect size! the other one is a jewelry box that has two parts. it's not easy to carry around, but it's easy to hide and put a lot of things inside. maybe I'll use it for offerings?? idk, still a baby witch :,)
This video is 10/10 I’ve been referring to it every now and than because travel alters are so specific that watching a video about them help my get some grasp on tracking the changes in my alter. This is a good reference source and I’ll definitely keep referring to it every other time
I have a mini altoids tin thats like a happy/positivity/good luck box.♡ It has shells, catholic medals, irish rosary, etc. But on top when you open it, a fortune fits perfectly over it all. It says "there are plenty of promises and hope floating around you" So I carry this in my purse when I'm anxious or travelling. 🥰 I definitely would recommend putting fortunes you get that really stick with you into spells and altars!!♡ Then I have a pretty box thats more like an altar. It has protection symbols (shells, acorns, etc.) It contains my empty spell jars on one side & ashes of someone important. Too sad to say who rn tho. Almost their bday, so I'll probably use the altar that day. Otherwise I look in it when sad and try to keep it dusted off. But its nice cuz then the box protects the ashes from cats and kids. I keep it by my bed. (I kinda gotta be inconspicuous, because people are cool with it until their not. So i prefer to be private 🤣)
A good one for closeted witches is an old glasses case! It holds a little bit more! And if you’re taking it places like school people won’t ask for a mint!
I made one of these for my sister before I started my norse pagan journey and now i need to make one for myself, I sanded down an old cigar box, cleaned it up and just kept it base coated so she could paint or enscribe what she needs
I have a travel alter that I made from a wooden box from a craft store and some very small vials and jars that were very inexpensive. I'm able to keep my dried rose, lavender, and sage as well as my black salt in it. I'm in love with those incense matches! I use the musk one all the time in my work
I have a little tin kind of in between the size of your altoids tin and the little black box that you have and it's great! I have a small piece of amethyst, turquoise and tigers eye in it, two little birthday candles, a salt pot and some ash, a ring from my grandmother and tiny little stones with the elements painted on them :) I stuck a match lighter on the side and it's just a great little box since I can't practise with a lot of things !! I swap around salt and ash with herbs sometimes but it's such a versatile tool !
I have all of my basic stuff in a small-ish Box that I carry almost everywhere with me. it has my 3 main incenses, a tealight and lighter, a jar of soil and a jar of water, as well as my deity connection jar spells. I don't really know why I keep it with me so definitively, I rarely use it when I'm at school or, anywhere away from home really, but it feels like leaving a baby at home for prolonged time to just,,,, not take it with me.
I used a makeup bag to house my travel tools. I had some bags that weren't being used and it is easy to grab and go without being overt. It also kind of looks like a clutch style purse, so it is something that I can carry around my family, who I am not out of the broom closet with, and they not say anything. It is something that I can also grab if I want to do a ritual outside.
In my travel altar, I use birthday candles (4 earth, water, air, fire) small bottle charms, small smooth stone versions of my crystals (ex: small smooth rose quartz stone, big size is size of my hand💜) cone incense, and I do have a white tea light candle, and some beads, charms, safety pins, a feathers dream catcher, and a sea shell bracelet. And a small black cloth with some white chalk, a small jar of egg shell if I’m doing something outside. Small jar of salt for inside work, I have hand made elder runes with white clay and a black sharpie. The box is 6”x3”x4”. But it works for me and amazing fits everything🤗 I’m an eclectic witch, I believe in multiple things but always stick to being selfless even if it hurts😢💜💜 And I need to get me some of those incense matches😍 that’s so cool! I had no clue about those. I love your altars they are cute and organized, it’s clear you know what you want!🤗
i love travel alters, i'm currently updating mine to make it more useful, pro tip for a tin, lush has tons in different shapes! they're meant to hold their soaps and massage bars, and since their logo is one the front, if you not open about your practice, people will just assume its soap!
I have to have a travel altar, and something I came up with was I got one of those colorful boxes from Micheal's, and some chalkboard paint, and I painted the inside of the box with the chalkboard paint so you can write out sigils or something and erase it when you want to!
I have an altoid tin travel altar as well, I keep birthday candles in it instead of a tealight to save space and I use a small flat bead as my candle holder!
Those Ouija board mints/tins are sold at Spencer's Gifts if you're located in America or Canada! And, this is so perfect for me because I currently live with my VERY Christian dad who already showed negativity towards my tarot cards.
This is an awesome idea. Wish I thought of this year's ago. Especially if I travel out to the mountains by myself, while I'm doing long distant cycling.
I put birthday candles in my pocket alter and my moon water in an old perfume vial. There are mini tarot cards you can get on amazon. ☺️✌🏻 Happy witching
I use a scented tea light in my Altoids size tin so that I don't need incense, which allows me to more easily fit an obsidian arrowhead, I connect to obsidian and it can be used to draw a circle if I'm feeling it at the time.
I don't have a travel altar because I don't travel very much... if at all... but I have this tiny box made of painted soapstone that I put a purple candle, a rose quartz necklace, a tiger eye stone, and a feather in, and I dedicated it to an old friend, just as a little bit of insurance that they would have some safety. Then two years later I had to cut contact with them because they had become extremely abusive, so I really need to cleanse that box and its contents. I might make a travel altar so I can do some work outside this spring. Thank you for this video, it just popped up in my recommended and it reminded me how much I love doing witchcraft.
Been looking at these sorts of videos and this is the perfect gift for my sister. Already bought a nice box, now I just need to work on it to make it special. Many thanks for all the inspiration!
I use travel altars pretty much exclusively, I keep a small one in a sachet and a larger one in an old-fashioned briefcase, all of my witchy things go in there, safe and hidden. These are wonderful if you're in the broom closet, they work so well and they're also really good for storage if you live in an apartment or someplace small and need to save on space. 11/10 would recommend lol
I’m a Witch whose in the closet and I have a main self love alter that I put on a box and cover when I have to leave the room and I plan on using the shoe box method u said to make a moon alter! Great idea and they really can fit a lot!
I’m so glad you made a video about this! I just booked a flight to Mexico in June and I was worried I wouldn’t be able to have room for my alter, but thanks to you now I have a perfect idea of packing it! 💞💞💞💞💞💞

That are "witchy" themed. One says 'Book of Spells' and another says 'Witches Guide Potions & Poisons' that I literally got at the Dollar Tree. I use them for decoration if I'm not using them for travel.
I have the Ouija tins that I bought specifically to make a travel altar kit. :-)
Me too! I didn't care for the mints, but the tins are lovely.
Me too
Your hands must be Irish. You have very expressive hands. 😁😁 A very cool video. Thanks!
I was just thinking the same thing, being Irish I see so many people talk with their hands
Ohh I didn’t know that was an Irish thing lol makes sense
Abbey Campbell I talk with my hands a lot and I’m English haha. Must be my Irish ancestry 😂
@@laurabowden5 ha yeah, probably the British isles region in general is say
im irish and very expressive with my hands. i find myself even talking with my hands on a phone call of and on 😂🤦🏻
I love the idea of drawing sigils into the covers (or on paper that fits into the covers) of the travel altar!
You're the only one on youtube who talk about this without making it strange, i really love this channel❤
for a little while i was using a mint tin (the ouija board one!) to carry some of my favorite crystals for protection, as well as a pendulum (i have two) and some sticks of cinnamon. i carried it around in my backpack with me my first year of college!
Okay so i'm getting a really weird vibe seeing that this got uploaded today because I swear I watched it yesterday
READ. BOOKS. I truly cannot stress this enough, witchcraft is all about knowledge and learning.
Just do not take gifts from fae PLEASE
Thanks everybody! My mom had some crystals in a jar so I have two crystals
This should be called being in the broom closet tutorial
My alter is literally a tub of extra chewing gum 😂
Im gonna be living in a van soon and although i wont have to HIDE my altar it would just make it easier to have a travel sized one. This video was super helpful and gave me a ton of ideas !
Yes I have a lovely small travel altar. Ill try to post a pic. I use it when I travel out of town. I do need to remember to keep it 'alive' by making sure the supplies are fresh each time I take it.
For most of my witching life I've had my alter in the bottom drawer of my wardrobe. This was so useful for me :)
Omg I’d just posted a blog post on the Pagans and Witches amino about travel altars!! I love these so much, they’ve been so useful to me!
I also recently did a blog post about travel altars, then boom this video came out lol it must be in the air.
That is such an unbelievably cool hack!
Definitely going to make one of these!
I've just been thinking about making one! Good timing I suppose ♡
Me, too!!
I just wanted to let you know that I just got my incense matches in the mail yesterday. THANK YOU SO MUCH for introducing these to us! I love them.
I never thought about this, but now that I've watched it, I see the benefits of a travel altar. This is huge! Thank you so much for making this video. :)
I made my first one years ago. I think I am ready to make another. And I seriously have a cute Mystifying mints tin that I use.
Getting ready to travel soon, this popped up in the recommended, somehow hadn’t seen it yet! I’m gonna dig around in my storage and see what I can repurpose for a travel altar. This is great!
I love how you can make it really stealthy if you don’t want people to know what it is. Love your videos, Olivia! 🖤
Thanks for bringing Incense Matches to my attention. They are so cool and handy and pleasing to the eye. I just ordered some.
I hide things in old glasses cases XD I never thought it would be considered an alter. I love this series
I've always wanted to make my own travel altar! Thank you for this video!
I honestly love making crafty things with altoid tins, thank you so much for this!
Never thought a travel altar. Love the idea. Thank you. hope you told your brother i said thank you. Be safe in your travels.
I'm a beginner and my parents are devorced, so i was thinking that it's the smartest for me to just have a travel altar.
I’m planning to use one of those hideaway books.
That's genius!
The Ouiji tin I've gotten at Spirit Halloween 2 years running. I think their website is up all year though, so you might be able to find them there.
i love this video. it seems like a friend showing me how to practice in a way that’s good for me. thank you olivia, for helping me through my path.
I've never actually used a travel altar before! I have a permanent altar set up in our office, so I don't have much need for one (I don't really go anywhere lol), but these are such cute and great ideas for on the go spellwork and craftwork. Thanks for the suggestions!
This was wonderful. Loved seeing all the cute items 🤩🤩🤩
I have a small travel alter in an altoids tin as well and haven't really got to use it outside the house much as its been too cold but in the summer I plan to use it for trips, camping, or going on little adventures. I love how you can always change it out of you need to and really have to be detailed on what you do and don't choose to bring with.
In mine I was able to fit:
+ small crystals chips in a recycled small glitter container(might need to replace it though as its not the best)
+ a small velvet sachet
+ some babies breath
+ some birthday candles
+ need to add matches!(I love the incense ones you have!)
+ a small pendulum chain to add a ring I'm wearing onto
+ a small flower of life Crystal charging board
+ a mini two sided pendulum board
+ rocks with all 4 elements on them
+ two tumbled crystals
+ and maybe something else I forgot I added haha I'm just going off memory
So a lot can fit into that little thing!
I'm very used to doing witchcraft with whatever I have on hand, but it's nice to have the reassurance of some go-to items, just in case.
this is actually going to be my inspo for spirits altars because I tend to get so overwhelmed when it’s in open space
i wanna make one of these, since i'm on the broom closet, and i have two boxes that are perfect for it! one is from my watercolor pencils, it has a van gogh painting on the lid and it's the perfect size! the other one is a jewelry box that has two parts. it's not easy to carry around, but it's easy to hide and put a lot of things inside. maybe I'll use it for offerings?? idk, still a baby witch :,)
I definitely would recommend putting fortunes you get that really stick with you into spells and altars!!♡
Then I have a pretty box thats more like an altar.
I do not have a travel alter as I'm new to the craft...however I will be doing some traveling, so I will definitely create one to take with me.
I made one of these for my sister before I started my norse pagan journey and now i need to make one for myself, I sanded down an old cigar box, cleaned it up and just kept it base coated so she could paint or enscribe what she needs
Your videos are therapy for me especially the tea ones. In a triggering world your videos are a sacred space.
i loove morning star too, my favorite one is patchouli♡♡
I have a travel alter that I made from a wooden box from a craft store and some very small vials and jars that were very inexpensive. I'm able to keep my dried rose, lavender, and sage as well as my black salt in it. I'm in love with those incense matches! I use the musk one all the time in my work
Im making one for Mabon ty for the tips
But it works for me and amazing fits everything🤗 I’m an eclectic witch, I believe in multiple things but always stick to being selfless even if it hurts😢💜💜
And I need to get me some of those incense matches😍 that’s so cool! I had no clue about those. I love your altars they are cute and organized, it’s clear you know what you want!🤗
i love when you say palo santo!
I've never heard of a travel altar! This video came to me at the perfect time, seeing as I'm going to be traveling for work soon again!!!
i love travel alters, i'm currently updating mine to make it more useful, pro tip for a tin, lush has tons in different shapes! they're meant to hold their soaps and massage bars, and since their logo is one the front, if you not open about your practice, people will just assume its soap!
I have to have a travel altar, and something I came up with was I got one of those colorful boxes from Micheal's, and some chalkboard paint, and I painted the inside of the box with the chalkboard paint so you can write out sigils or something and erase it when you want to!
Just wanted to tell you I bought these incense online and you’re right they’re amazing. Thank you for the heads up on these!
I have an altoid tin travel altar as well, I keep birthday candles in it instead of a tealight to save space and I use a small flat bead as my candle holder!
we have meditation i my school after we eat and i'm like- Catch me setting up a alter in class-
I love this idea of being able to take items with you that means something to you
Loved this video. I have the mystifying mints ouija tin and use it as a wallet. Credit/debit cards and ID fit perfectly
Wow! Thanks for sharing incense matches with us. I have never heard of them...but now I must get some!
Thankyou I'm a closit witch and needed an alter I can stash in the basebords
