    This video was excellent - especially seeing the mans part from two directions so I could hold my phone and repeat the pattern - and then to the music. Best basic I've found on these three foxtrot moves - now I'm looking for more from Egils. Thank you for sharing.

    Great content. - So one bar is 6 counts, right? 1-2 (S), 3-4 (S), 5(Q), 6(Q) - It would be interesting if you did one section counting with the numbers also.

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  Рік тому

      Thanks! For myself I would count with numbers. But for beginners it’s usually too difficult, therefore in teaching we use Slows and Quicks.

    • @Vllencia
      @Vllencia Рік тому +1

      @@EgilsSmagris Thank you, I understand. But like, at 5;25 you count with SSQQ, then, you repeat again the steps (from another angle) with SSQQ type counting. Maybe when you do the ''other angle'', you could instead do the number count so the beginner knows that S = 2 counts Q = 1 count. I find number counting is more indicative of timing, more understandable. But I just saw you have another video (re Foxtrot and Rumba, international style) where you explain the number counting and the bars, which is great !

    It struck me that a big, and understressed in videos, difference exists between solo moves and moving as a couple "at speed." Inertia and G forces act on bodies/limbs, making movements different, flowing, and more easily understood and performed

    There is no way in this option to coincide with parts of the music. For example, usually a chant = 8 measures in 4 quarters. hence 32 Bits. You suggest counting to three.
    BUT 32 is not divided by 3. Therefore, the music itself is not important to you, but only the background. It's a pity

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  4 роки тому

      Thanks evgenysax for your comment. Not all basic figures in dancing correspond to 1 bar or measure. Therefore when we make routines we try to have phrasing although separate figures might have 1,5 bars value (6 beats). Routine in this video is 8 + 4 = 12 bars. In advanced dancing usually dancers use figures which fit exactly in one bar or measure.

    • @evgenysax
      @evgenysax 4 роки тому

      @@EgilsSmagris thanks for your reply.
      You build 4 basic figures of 3 bits. And music plays in a completely different way. And her chorus is not 12, but 16 bars.
      A dancer who has musical training finds himself divorced from music ... It seems to him that he is not dancing with the song, but against the song.
      By the way, your music at the beginning of the lesson is not a foxtrot at all. This confirms that movements and music are not connected in any way.

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  4 роки тому

      Thanks evgenysax for detailed comment. I got your point. But I cannot change basic steps of social foxtrot in order to fit better to music. Only by using more advanced steps and/or changing rhythm of basic steps I can do complete justice to music structure.

  • @evgenysax
    @evgenysax 4 роки тому +2

    Foxtrot = 4/4.
    Most videos offer basic shacks like this: slow - slow - fast fast. And this is 3/4. That is, the rhythm of the Waltz. It’s very difficult to dance 3/4 when music is 4/4

    • @jamessquire4866
      @jamessquire4866 4 роки тому

      I thought foxtrot steps are (mostly) counted in fives - SSQQS - i.e. 4/4
