    I have decided I was gonna read only classic horror this spooky season. So, right now I'm reading "The turn of the screw" and then "The king in yellow". I'm gonna add "hell house" cause you make it sound very interesting.

    I had the opposite reaction to Light Most Hateful and Silent Key - thought the former was okay and loved the latter. I love that BookTube gives us that variety of views on books.
    I really do need to read Rebecca! The Palaeontologist looks fun and Bluebeard’s Castle sounds very interesting

    Hi from Alberta! Not sure if you have been to Drumheller and The Royal Tyrell Museum of Palaeontology, but if not you should. Come in the summer, and you can do a walk to see digs in progress.

    Oh the paleontologist sounds great! Never read the novel Jurassic park but I do enjoy the films right now reading wise, I'm reading what I have on my shelf. Currently for the month of October I'm documenting my thoughts on recent stories I've read by H.P. Lovecraft; quite a lot of variety with these short stories. 🎃❤📚

    From what I've read so far this October, my favorites are If It Bleeds by Stephen King, Dark Harvest by Norman Partridge, The Twisted Ones by T. Kingfisher, and Gothic by Philip Fracassi. My least favorites (so far) are The Turn of the Screw by Henry James, The Sentinel by Arthur C. Clarke, and Twelve Nights at Rotter House by J.W. Ocker.

    I am trying to see if Ray Bradbury is an author for me this spooky season - I loved The Martian Chronicles when I re-read it in August, but I was pretty disappointed in both The Halloween Tree and Fahrenheit 451 since. I'm currently reading The October Country and early prognosis is not looking good lol I still have Something Wicked This Way Comes, but I'm a bit surprised how loved some of these stories are. Anyway, I absolutely fell in LOVE with David Sodergren this year, and The Haar is my latest 5 star read. Funny, violent, emotional, great characters, I bet you'd love him too if you haven't read him yet.

    If you're recommending a classic, then I know it must be good! 😏 I have been wanting to read Rebecca for some time, though, but it's good to hear your thoughts on it.
    My spooky season has been fantastic! I read Fracassi C A with Strangers and now I'm almost finished with Malfi's December Park. Both books are just fantastic! I think next up will have to be Boys in the Valley since Fracassi impressed me that much.

    I am excited for Paleontologist. Blue Beards Castle seems interesting. I might check that one out. I appreciate you not spoiling Rebecca because I have also not read it before! Or seen the movie. I have already had Jane Eyre spoiled and don't want the same thing to happen to this one.

    I would love a video on dark romance. I might need to read Bluebeard's Castle. I read dark romance, too, and I definitely feel conflicted about the material I am reading. I remember a psychology professor of mine who discussed rape fantasy once. It was kind of awkward, but she wanted to talk about how prevalent it is among women, but she also wanted to clarify what it is and what it is not. I wonder if that is what dark romance is tapping into? A fantasy where a male very much takes the lead in seduction, which in turn makes the woman "faultless" in that scenario.
    I might be overcomplicating things, Maybe angst is just its own spice. LOL!
    Anyway, great video!

    • @TheShadesofOrange
      @TheShadesofOrange  Рік тому +1

      Yeah I'll likely do a follow video on Dark Romance eventually. And yes it's so awkward to talk about but it's a popular genre that I quietly read

    My spooky reads, had hoped to read a book a week, got off to a delayed start. I had to read the novelization of a movie that told my dad would watch with him after I read the book. They finally got impatient waiting.
    The book I am reading 'The Ritual' by Adam Nevill is another read I am getting in before watching a movie. It is going slower than I thought but I think I been slowed down because the first half of the book was similar to another recent read. I should finish it today or tomorrow then moving on to a short story collection, Tanith Lee - 'Redder Than Blood'.
    When I listened to Stephen King and other literary horror podcasts 'Rebecca' has been mentioned quite a bit. Never really thought about it but maybe I should put it on my list. Old school horror has never been my thing but it is important to read the seeds. I forgot about it until you mentioned it.

    Richard kadrey’s sandman slim series is ok (it feels a little to try hard with its humor but the plots are pretty cool) i think his most entertaining is “the everything box” its one of the few books of his where the humor works and it doesnt try so hard to be “cool” as his other books.
