I never gave much thought to what foods don't spoil. Also wouldn't cocoa pods = chocolate be a good option? I guess chocolate doesn't give a buff but it does have "Extremely well preserved" on the spoil timer though. Cool tips as always!
I know this is super old, but chocolate is only made with the kitchen, not a campfire. Unless you're carrying around a kitchen, it's probably better to use the other options.
@@jodysgamingchannel9480 i cant be really sure but it sells also good if you have like 30+ cocoa-plant farming. well dont know how much i had in the past but i know i sold them good money :D (no mods)
Yep, rice and coconuts are great foods for hunger. Two servings coconut rice can pretty much fill up your entire food bar. Food bar is 70 while coconut rice restores 30. Coconuts don't drop if you die in survival. They are considered throwing items. Cocoa pods and sugar are also non-perishable foods though you have to get lucky with them appearing on starting planets. Cocoa pods don't have to be replanted while sugar does. The liquid draining technique works only on the surface. If you go deep enough underground where the sky is no longer visible, removing the background does not drain the liquid. Another weapon good for nullifying fall damage is a hammer with ground slam. You can get it only on common hammers. You use in in the air and slam down til you hit the floor. During that time it nullifies fall damage and I believe regular damage as well. Essentially invincible while doing the ground slam animation. Yeah engineers are awesome. The most fuel a trip can use is 500 fuel. You can easily get engineer crew members by doing quests for electrician tenants. Can either be engineers or mechanics. Get a lot of wire stuff to get those specific tenants. I like using lunar base consoles. Really awesome tips in this video. Thanks for sharing. Keep up the great work.
4yrs late, another good way to prevent fall dmg is if you double-jump right before you hit the ground, unfortunately this only works if you have super-fast reaction times, on a slope, on a short fall, or already know the area
I also find usefull my ,,technique" of jumping as far as its possible. I use sprint and triple jump for this, i sprint, jump, in the middle of the air i release the sprint button and do the triple jump and hold button with the direction i am trying to go. Its usefull if u are in the minibiom with this purple slime which incredibly slows you and some ,,pools" are just too big, so you just use this.
potatoes, chocolate and coffee also have a very long and dare I say almost infinite spoil timer, they don't stack but things like the potato are very easy to get and you can also make tasty meals with it (or vodka, but for that you'll need mods)
Your HUD for the planets and travel looks quite different to mine. Is that a difference in versions or are you using a mod that shows more info? (Or have I just not unlocked that yet, still kinda new to the game...)
Would putting sprinklers on an asteroid belts give them more reach? I did figure out that you can put sprinklers underneath the dirt, if that helps. Also, with the fist weapons, you can stop midair infinitely using just one. Put it in slot 1 AND 2, in opposite hands, and just switch between slot 1 and slot 2, punching twice each time.
You can't by normal means, you have to spawn it in with /spawnitem. The ID is "fishaxe", and the more powerful one that (I think) he's using is "superfishaxe".
Guys, look at the chat when he is in his spaceship and when he says: "Here I am not in admin mode!" And then look at the chat and you'll see that he didn't even have admin mode, he just gave himself one xD
Are you sure about that growth one? Do you have any evidence to show that crops run on days rather than seconds/ticks? Ive not done much farming myself in the game. But it would make far far more sense for it to be running on a separate timer rather than days on the planet. But I dont know, I'd love to see like a source or something. Also, heard of duck walking? Probably not because I just coined it lol, but basically, just hold down, and infront of a 3 block tall opening (one you normally cant enter because its too small) and spam the forwards button, not holding it, but clicking it, that will let you go forwards through the opening, useful for making a door only people who knows the trick can enter, and getting yourself stuck in the ship (at the very front of the ship its only 3 blocks tall) but its also useful for getting the first translation disk in the first mission, as one of the parts require you to use the morph ball to get through a small gap, and then up a bit to pull a lever, use the duck walk and bam, you can reach it.You can also use it right before you go down to the erchius boss, instead of going down the giant hole, go off to the right to the hole there, and use the duck walking trick to go down to the three or so chests down there, and if youve pulled the two levers that you now can with the duck walk trick and some rope, youll be able to get the first translation wheel really easily. Theres also the part where just like you can use the matter manipulator to clear out liquids (which I wouldnt call a pro trick but sure) you can use it to scan for ores and caves by just hovering the blue bit all over the place, it can see where there is no light etc, plus in the higher levels of the planet, instead of using torches you can just mine the background, as long as its day, it saves on a few torches. There is a weird bug with ropes and grappling hooks, they only go so far down, but by swinging from side to side, you can actually extend how far down they go, its not super fast but it does happen, and could be useful if you really wanna get down a ditch. Just keep holding down and swing from side to side. Instead of using and potentially loosing food, pretty sure you can use a pet ball, toss it, make it run for it, and go after it for a second, so if he returns with the ball, it wont be over the chest, its another step but it can always be done, no matter if you have food or not (food does rot, after all) theres also pet houses you can place down, which will occupy them sometimes. If youre falling in a cave, sand, or more easily, water, can help slow the fall too btw. Easiest way to make sure you can fall down something is to use a glowstick, toss it down, best case itll make you see the bottom when you hold ctrl to move, worst case itll give you a early notice when the ground is when youre falling. Then its a matter of timing your double jump. Speaking of dark caves, looking for chests? Just hold down the inspect key, alt if I remember correctly, it highlights all interactable objects, and it ignores light levels, meaning you can use it to see chests around you, no matter where they are, as long as they are on the screen they will highlight when you press the button. Just a few extra tricks for ya, I like your content. And im glad youre sharing what knowledge you have with the community, so let me share some of mine with you in return.
All harvestable use the harvestable.lua file. It make many references to world.time and startDayTime. Not 100% sure on how these are all used in the game code but I am assuming your worlds time affects all your harvestable in some way. I do know the code below is a function init. Meaning it is looking for values of the world.time and the startDayTime. If anyone out there knows this code better and understands it more please feel free to elaborate. function init() storage.created = storage.created or world.time() storage.startDayTime = storage.startDayTime or world.timeOfDay() storage.durations = storage.durations or {}
Hmm, thats legitimately quite good proof, as you said its not 100% solid, but it does give enough info to make a decent assumption, id say it could be good to give that info in the vid, most wont get it, but for those that do, its definitely interesting information. I'd say its always a good idea to try and explain why something works when youre showing a trick, it helps people understand the fundamental workings of the game and stuff. Like the "duck walk" thing I mentioned, is most likely the game realising youre moving when you press forwards, and doing so before it checks if youre walking and crouching, meaning you can move just a sliiiight bit before you stand up and whatnot. thanks for the info btw, its interesting stuff!
Hearing Firespark81 mention " fist challenge" reminded me of all of these I made up. The human challenge: fist weapons and explosives only (rocket launchers, grenade launchers, bombs, etc.). Apex challenge: Whips and capture pods only. Avian challenge: axes, hammers, wands, and staffs only. Floran challenge: spears and throwing spears only. Glitch challenge: broadswords and bows only. Hylotl challenge: short swords and small throwing weapons only (throwing stars, throwing darts, throwing daggers, etc.). Novakid challenge: guns and daggers only. (rocket launchers and grenade launchers are NOT considered guns) Thanks if you made it this far. Anyone, feel free to say how you would change these, for they were only rough thoughts.
Who needs super spin slash when air dash requires no energy? I mean, the double-tap is annoying, but any reasonable person mods that to an actual key anyway.
I do, air dash is just a good backup in case I have either run out of jumps or want to conserve them. Which, since I use triple jump to get sufficient height to use my rocket spear (which is amazing in combination with the light augment), happens quite often.
Thanks for your comment. I've played more than 300 hours starbound since the beta but nver knew, that air dash prevents fall damage. I'm feeling so blind atm lol. I only use sprint and blink dash. little bit riskier in some cases but i got used to it (sometimes I'm quite lucky tho haha)
I actually didn't realize that it reset fall damage at first; I only decided to use it on a new character after realizing that sprint completely prevents the user from jumping and requires manual deactivation, which, given that I go for high-mobility to compensate for Starbound's lag, was kind of a pain.
I go for potatoes. I also use rice because they stack so nice but potatoes fed you more and they spoil in 15 hours (when not cooked of course). So fill your pockets with potatoes and go vegan. po-ta-toes for the win
If you'll press Alt you'll be able to see every object that you can use including chests. The best thing to use in the cave ;)
make sure to also press f4!
(This is a joke)

man after hours in Freckin universe the vanila feels like the stone age
+Random doggie Yup. FU with newest incoming update is what the game needs to be. They should just absorb FU.
I used to think they should just absorb FU, and hire the crew. But at the rate they update FU, Starbound would hold it back, ironically enough.
I loved, how u actually enabled Admin mode, when u said that u turned it off XD
Leg tech idea: Featherfall. Slightly reduces fall speed and eliminates fall dmg

ty for sharing this! This was a cool and very informative video liked and subscribed - your truly - Alton The Starbound Bard
The right move to not take fall DMG is called ground slam usually found in hammers
2yr late but I just started and wanted to say that you take fall damage from ground slam now.

@jerry123a many years later, playing again on xbox. The double jump works well, but when I mess that up, I use air dash.
Aesthetic techniques of starbound would be cool - tips for creating an awesome looking home....

that explains why i had no food when i starved to death on my ship.. from accidentally forgetting to hit pause while going to eat real food.
Is the kitchen counter better than the Chic cooking table or are they the same.
+Natured Quasar44 Nope.
FireSpark81 so no as in they are the same or different?
+Natured Quasar44 They are the same thing.
Another great one is the rice cake or kelp and rice put together

how do you get a chic cooking table ? it doesnt work scanning it from outpost and pixel printing it
does the fuel one still work?

One of the best unexpirable foods are chocolate, easy to make, easy to obtain, just plant a cocoa seed and boom, unlimited supply of unspoilable food.
I've recently started using alien fruit juice instead. It doesn't seem to spoil, fills 3-3.5 bars, and buffs you with low gravity.
If u play FU and u have this port gun, you can triple jump, port and again triple jump
Doesn't being in the sphere cause you to not take fall damage?
Wtf your character is novakid but he made the human hurt sound
This video is made 2 years ago. Maybe it hasn-t been added then.
How you were flying? its a Command in starbound or you are using a mod

Wait, did I just see planets terraformed into barren planets? How'd you do that? I've never seen a terraformer for that. :o
+Officer Luke I made one that does it
Ah, I see. Anyways, I found a useful video about spawning custom terrformers, so problem solved. :D
I just use rice b/c you can cook it at a campfire and you can find them everywhere
I didn't know mushrooms were replantable.
