    Someone was trying to get a discount on that tow bill. Hard aground; I don’t think so! 😮

    What does it matter that he ‘touched bottom’ if there was no damage caused. You can only keep to the channel. Why was the other Captain claiming he was ‘run hard aground’? He seemed such a nice fella, not the type who’d complain bitterly? Just goes to show, I suppose, you never can tell who is going to gripe when they receive a hefty tow bill?

    The little boat from EW pulled us off the bar NW of the Tom Adams Bridge at #6 about 8 years ago. If he thought you run him hard aground, I would think he would have been more upset about it at the time. What the heck was the guy doing in the mangroves anyway?

    • @CaptKenO
      @CaptKenO  3 місяці тому +4

      Oh, he was perfectly fine at the time. It was several days later when my boss tried to collect the rest of the money that he tried using that as an excuse to not pay the rest of the invoice

  • @vancity2349
    @vancity2349 Рік тому +2

    Great job. Did they moor there and the tide went out or? Why do you pull with such a long line, more whip action or?

    • @CaptKenO
      @CaptKenO  Рік тому +8

      Thanks Vancity! They actually tried towing it initially a few days before from the dock with a friends boat and it got blown into that little cove in the process...which is why they decided to call the professionals 😂
      When ungrounding a boat, I pull with a long line so that I can get to deeper water, because when my boat squats under the tension of the towline, I don't want my props to be digging through the bottom

      The longer towline creates more of a catenary (dip in the line) which acts as a shock absorber. It also allows the tow boat and towed vessel to be “in-step” with the waves which needs to be adjusted by letting out or reeling in tow line. Both vessels should be at the same point in different waves. One more very important reason is safety. The towed vessel in not in control or under power so has no “brakes”. If the towing vessel has to stop, encounters an engine issue etc, the longer the tow, the more time for the towed vessel to slow down and not hit the towing vessel.

    • @CaptKenO
      @CaptKenO  Місяць тому

      Otto, everything you said is correct, except since the towline we use is so light, it doesn't create any usable catenary at any realistic towing distance, so that part isn't applicable

    Hey Ken, the camera angle made that boat look like a floating ball 🤣 wasn't real sure what u were doing in this one, thought u were towing them out to go fishing.. rather expensive fishing day!!!! Ok No u did not run them aground hard, yes they hit but if they were under their own propulsion they would have hit anyway. ? Have u got flashing towing lights, to inform other boaties, that uv got a vessel under tow. Wow uv got a lot of bridges over there.

      It did scrape the bottom so by definition it “ran aground” but what are you gonna claim 200ml of anti foul.
