The music is fine, and I love just about anything Dave Alvin sets his hand to (have seen him in concert half a dozen times), but I find this video unwatchable. I don't know if the intention was to try for a "psychedelic" effect-- and I'm old enough to remember when people could say "psychedelic music" without snickering-- but this constant cross-cutting between the band onstage and flowers, bees, pseudo-emulsion scratches, film leader and assorted other crap is just jarring, distracting and stupid. It's about as "psychedelic" as Coke and aspirin. Either show us the damn band or indulge your high school video-project fantasies, (a friend of mine actually made a better "psychedelic" film than this-- with similar visual elements-- when we were both in high school, more than 50 years ago, and set it to music as well) but don't combine the two. I listened, but I didn't watch. And oh, by the way, when a fucking COMMERCIAL popped up mid-vid, I damn near turned it off. This mid-video cram-in-a-commercial bullshit is happening more and more on UA-cam and is killing the platform for me. I was going to share this with friends but because of that stupid commercial, I won't. Take note, Dave. UA-cam isn't doing you any favors. Neither is this amateurish vid.
Dave's guitar playing is off the hook on this one!
Awesome rendition of a wonderful classic. At first glance of the band from the distance, I did a double take at what seemed an apparition of Gene Taylor at the piano. The entire video is most excellent.
great song, the editing is a bit distracting
Great video, great song, great band!!!
The Great Society did this. Grace sang it beautifully. This is very cool. Editing is a wee bit annoying...ha.
IMO, the editing is very artistically done. Fine vid of a 60's classic.
Jesse Sykes is one of my favorite artist. With this new band, it's top.
Pim. From France.
I thought I recognized that song ! PENTANGLE ! One of my all time favorite acoustic groups. John Renbourne - Saw yhem in Frisco at "The Stone" on Van Ness Avenue ! My friend and I took some of our PENTANGLE Albums with us. AFTER THE SHOW, we went back stage, (unobstructed) Met them ALL and they cheerfully signed our albums. It was a GREAT HONOR to meet snd speak with them ! The GREAT JOHN RENBOURNE ! (RIP).
THE JAYNETTS BELLEND!!
JAYNETTS! Man does this bring back memories. Listen to the original 1963 version sometime.
Many great versions of this. The classic soul original from the Jaynetts (1963) and the Pentangle cover --great band and great story! I think the Third Mind's version is likely inspired by the Great Society's cover: ua-cam.com/video/Eb0oHgxaE4E/v-deo.html
VERY Good music and heavy duty stuff !! Psychedelic music at it's best ? nice to hear it this year in the U. S. A. hope they travel to Salt Lake City, UT. to play some music !!
cool Dave!
Great performance, but why couldn't we just watch the band doing it? A truly awful video!
If the Jefferson Airplane were still around, they would just love this version.
Sorry. I just don't think it does justice to the original. It had an up beat mood to it that is totally lacking here.
What a great piece
Yup…great live cut from an amazing band. Had to close my eyes tho. Video edit was the worst annoying. Love you Dave and third eye.
Way too many camera cuts to be enjoyable. Sorry.
Off the chart! Great stuff
Isn' that Michael Jerome on drums?
Great music. Horrible video.
I love this and Pentangle’s version that I recommend.
Wow, it's been a long time since my last trip, thanks for to visit to the70s.
Longtime lover of Dave Alvin's music and various bands he is part of. This song is great but the video is awful. I had to close my eyes to listen to music - video is disjointed and hard on my eyes. A surprise disappointment.
If you're prone to migraines w. an aura it could be a trigger
Yeah Warren. - iI just listened to and watched "Sally Go Round the Roses". Definitely cool band. Vocalist is great, very unique voice! COOL LOOKING BAND ! THANKS WARREN ! I'M gonna watch some more on UA-cam. - THANK YOU !
Excellent cover! Haunting; without regard for who covers this Jaynett's song.
musically this is top shelf stuff. great arrangement, killer vocals and big jamming.. right up my alley.. agree with others about the video edits.
This is what we came here for. The communion with the holy tonal. Outstanding; thank ya for that.
Good Music, awful Video.
Europe is waiting ! :-)
Very cool and artistic!
Holy stuff
