Very nice, ha ha... I was temporarily stationed at San Vito, with the USAF, back in 1996, 1997, 1998, and 1999. By then, most of the facilities had closed, and we lived in the dormitories at first, then in the old base housing. Base Exchange, the mall, and Community Center were still open, including the pizza place, which was pretty tasty. Worked out at Brindisi. I remember the giant antenna, too... thanks for sharing!
I was there in summer of 1997, TDY. Of the base - I mostly remember the club and the little eating area that sold calzones. My friend was a bar tender and I ran the audio system. Great memories.
I lived there on base as a kid from summer of 1970 to summer of 1973. 5th grade thru 7th grade. I have very good memories living there and touring Europe.
Spent 21 months on an 18 month tour assigned to San Vito and worked at the clinic Nov 72-Aug 74. Great first base and the best overseas tour in my twenty years. Later in 3/87-3/88 was assigned to Comiso in Sicily and came up to SVAS twice TDY while on a 12 month remote that lasted almost 13 months. During my time with the 6917th I was young and single. At Comiso I was married with a baby on the way hanging out with me, myself and I while my family was Stateside. Being married while separated from family at Comiso was not a geographical divorce although many looked like they acted on it. I was married and that was that. Live with it. Brought my family over on my dime towards the end of my Comiso tour when our son was 3 months old. Life was back to normal. However, of all my overseas tours, San Vito was the best of all....
Memories Usaf Base San Vito dei Normanni is a jump into the past between photos and videos of the protagonists, many in 40 years, of the Usaf base of San Vito dei Normanni. Photos, like videos have been recovered on the internet and in social groups on Facebook
I was on charlie flight as n x2 between jan.68 thru April, 69… Ron Russell, bob cramton , I can only laugh at the fab time we shared at the beach house and downtown….Btw, this is chuck Ferrari .. where is Rick mckown, Barry winstead now?
No, purtroppo.

Wow. Thanks for this. The pictures I have in my head have been fading and this all came rushing back. Two tours. Good times.

You can get around part of the outside on Google Maps. Kinda sad.
