It's not just a controller problem...it is a control problem. The CEO has successfully created a Frankenstein console and a mockery of the Intellivision brand, and no one within the company has the balls to tell him he is wrong and out of control.
There are running theories that beneath the disk is just four contact points; meaning it isn't even an analogue disk and that the ergonomics were completely ruined for the sake of looking retro; just like a PT Cruiser.
2nd generation controllers in general were kinda odd and in a big experiment on how to add more buttons for game complexity (usually with # pads). I’ll give them props to be ambitious with this controller but it seems inconsistent with the control schemes across different games.
@@GeneSimmonsBoots I still find the disc to be fine, too. The original controller had lots of strengths, but its the games that really added compelling use of the controllers features. Shame I don't see much of that in the Amico yet. Hope that changes.

The "there's zero lag anymore" victory lap that the Amico faithful are taking is puzzling. First, every controller has some lag so the issue is whether the lag affected gameplay. I guess this is a roundabout way for them to finally admit there WAS lag after denying there ever was any lag for the last year and a half. So now the controller has ONE of the bare minimum requirements of a functional game controller and that's a triumph? It would be like if a new electric car company debuted a prototype that had no wheels and everyone said "hey, there's no wheels!" but the CEO just said "That's a lie. Listen to all these people wearing my company's merch who at my private event said they drove it and they didn't notice a lack of wheels". Then a year and a half later the next prototype shows up and has wheels (but lacks a battery, car seats, a steering wheel, etc). The CEO proclaims "See! We have wheels. We are a fully functional car. Thats exactly what I thought too, that this sounds awfully familiar to Uwe Boll's crap factory that exploited German law to make his "films". But hey, he can play golf forever now.

I wouldn't say the OG Intellivision controller disc concept was abandoned in 1979 because it sucked. That style just has a very specific application. The concept was effectively revived on the iPod where it worked great for menu navigation and mini-games that were optimized for it like the super breakout clone, or that puzzle game everyone played where you shoot at coloured marbles coming towards you in a spiral to match the colours and make them disappear.

I was not prepared for hearing the word „Wollmilchsau“ in my favourite Podcast. We Germans just have some great words.😂
So I saw that Tommy just issued a nearly hour long blurt to try and appeal to you guys, and presumably other higher traffic sites than he can get on, to have more open communication or some nonsense. It's probably a good time to remind him that product pushers don't get to determine how independent reporting is done on their wares. A subject doesn't get to decide what language is used, what's on or off the table when reporting on what they put out into the world, or when they get to talk. We're seeing this played out with that sleazy Theranos chick, and Tommy learns nothing.
Great video. I had a feeling this could be an issue - with all the talk about motion controls and such, it seems like all the games play differently. Of course the games themselves are a bigger issue IMO, but the inconsistent controls don't help.
It's kind of sad that the list of launch titles is not only dubious but deeply uninspiring. People rightly made fun of the Xbox One for having Peggle 2 as a timed exclusive and a launch title. Tommy _wishes_ he had a Peggle 2.
You guys just reminded me of a concern that I had for one of the grant money games. I think it was Asteroids that had pulsing lights on the screen? Pulsing lights can trigger headaches in some people. You would think that with all the research TT has said that they've done they would've caught that and have the devs remove it.
The Amico has been one big dumpster fire from start to finish. I don't know whether to laugh or shake my head because of how preventable most of their fucks ups have been.
The Amico controller is an example of paying homage to the originals (good and bad) features, but going overboard on new features. The original Intellivision at least had consistency and the control scheme in games often had similarities to other games in the library. The fact that a great deal of the games are not tied to any conventions from game to game sucks. The big takeaway is twenty-five games and all play completely different. who needs to have to re-learn how to use a controller every single time they pick it up?
Fans are already claiming that they got permission from the publishers to use their assets. Okay, let’s get an official statement that Gaijin Entertainment allowed them to use some War Thunder images.
I didn't realize it, but German gov't grants and tax loopholes are something that this Amico fiasco has in common with Uwe Boll. The difference of course being that Uwe Boll has successfully made dozens of terrible films and Tommy still needs to get this thing out the door.
Atari VCS, Coleco Chameleon Intellivision Amico... Retro hype, modern failures. They all wanted to do retro & do it differently...but none had a clue what to really do to be different
The other day I saw a new video on my list from Intellivision, about 15 minutes long, but when I tried to play it, it had already been removed. Any idea on what that was all about?
Did anyone see the live video last night on no swear gamers channel? They were people on there he was interviewing that were supporting the Amico. And supporting Tommy and defending his actions with such devotion. It was a trip
I just found out about this train wreck today and have been watching videos from the playlist and hopefully those people were suckered in early and are just hoping for some return from their investment because the more I see about it and what tommy says all I can think is why would anyone get behind this because it's obvious they are either out of money or running desperately low and looking for ways to get every cent they can
The more you guys talk about this amico thingy makes me more & more curious to see it at a mall kiosk. I mean, I don't want to buy it or anything, I just want to actually see it.
The *what* controller? I've never heard the term, forget trying to spell that. But it's funny they'd use such a word to describe the controllers, because the Amico is the Manbearpig of video game consoles - it doesn't exist, and it never will.
Pat is right about kids rooms. Kids have iPads or tablets. This is why switch is ideal. There will be some that have TVs but not the same way that did even ten years ago
Maybe they are just doing all of this to keep both sides too busy to notice that there still is no launch date for the system itself. 3 cancelled release dates so far and all they've delivered is coins and mp3s for all the money they've taken. Now, they are saying 'oh hi, we are working on new games for the system we still can't release'.
This sounds like they are having the same issues that happened with the Atari 5200. Bad joysticks, games that were available on other systems, and a selling price that is more than what the mainstream market will pay. Maybe I'm wrong, but...looks like it
And a similar air of puffed head hubris, a leader who seems to just want the whole thing to fail (Jack), complete contempt for their audience, and absurd cost cutting measures that make the system a nightmare to develop for. If the Amico was a horse in a race, it'd have wandered onto the track looking confused, and then plodded so slowly that even the guy whose job it is to shovel up the horse crap is going faster. When the Amico launches, I imagine it'll be like a double-fault at a javelin event. Full sprint up, stumble, and full force throw the dart right into the ground, nearly impaling their own feet.
I deal in indirect capacity with that bavarian culture and movie grant scheme. Basically you only have to pay back the grant when you hit break even and its all cool as long you make a honest effort to bring the content to market. This is of course a wonderful scheme for Intelivision and the dev team because under the hood, they can have a contract setup where Intelivision gets a 95% cut for each game sold which means the dev team will never hit break even. In a nutshell, german tax payers footed the bill.
Every kid old enough to use their fingers has a tablet or access to one and plays mobile games and consumes content on them. TV in kids rooms is basically redundant.
The only reason why Hans Ippisch was hired is to provide Tommy with the German money. Besides, with his thick Bavarian accent, nobody takes Hans seriously. Its like a pig farmer tries to sell you high end technology...
This one system has more games developed in Germany than I can name after 40 years of gaming. I’m honestly struggling to think of one major development house to come out of Germany aside from Crytek.
I like how the fact that Tommy is such a horrible person that it makes you guys want to cover this even more lol as opposed to if he was just a clueless guy that made a bad product
It's amazing to me that the Wii became massive because of the Wii Remote's simplicity and intuitiveness, and the Wii U bombed, because regardless of how well it was used, most people didn't need the Gamepad, and it was far to complex, yet they decided to base it off the gamepad, because the Wii U bombed because people just didn't "use it well enough", which is just the opposite of the issue
My fav controller wound have the same let out as computer keyboard. I always map PC games to the arrow keys fur movement since that's how I like it and it fells best to me that way. That's why I wish I could get an PS5 gamepad that's set-up that way.
I'd love to mess around with this controller. I suppose you can't use it with your computer for gaming? Pity. I bought a used set of intellivision ii controllers and used th RD universal controller adapter to play hellgate london on the pc. I also tried the colecovision & super action controller and even the fairchild controller. I would try a jaguar but different pin layout. There is a setup i plan on getting. Seeing this made me ponder if it'd work.
I never thought I would say this but The Atari VCS is actually looking much better than the Amico with the recharged series and antstream …….and I’m in for a founders edition so that’s not good news coming from me .
If you believe modern controllers are too complicated, then don't make the Amico controller, instead just go back to the NES or maybe SNES controller. Simplify things with one method of direction input and a few buttons. Particularly if you are theoretically aiming for simpler and/or retro games. Maybe throw in decent-to-good gyro, which you can sub in for analog/paddle games, maybe also as an alternative for d-pad. And come up with some standards for all games to follow (such as standardized confirm and cancel buttons, maybe a standardized design for button config screens, etc).
The LED on controller could have some good implementations, I'm thinking like in games like Hellfite where indicates weapon selection. Or to indicate which opponent player is low on life, rather than have the usual life bar on screen. Time will see how they get creative with it I guess, or if
I can see a community of people hacking it , and having a good time with it, it has enough power to run Dreamcast, maybe light GameCube games. Hopefully it can be modified to have normal controller support.
What, you mean the nearest thing the Amico could have to a killer app? You think it's a bit mysterious that the *ONE GAME* they hypothetically _SHOULDN'T SHUT UP ABOUT_ is mysteriously missing after a meager animation test?
That's assuming a lot...it needs to arrive at all to be considered dead on arrival. I have a niggling feeling this will be a Sinclair Vega+ situation where the conmen in charge ship a few half-finished prototypes to a fraction of backers, then declare the money is gone and everyone else gets left in the cold. Selling their "physical products" before they're remotely ready to launch is a big red flag for me. One last cash grab before it all goes bye bye (or maybe to try and attract more investment, if we're being charitable). The pandemic was the best thing for this clown-shoes operation, it lets them hide behind supply issues when the reality is they still don't have any finished games, and job postings for important aspects of the console's software remain unfilled. They claimed it was all hardware shortages that was holding them up, yet none of these games are in a finished state yet - some have placeholder text from Nintendo games, while others have stolen artwork in them. This stuff is getting thrown together as quickly, and cheaply, as possible to throw out the door so Tommy can pretend they tried and weren't incompetent and scummy.
At this point I think it's fascinating that this train wreck continues. Tommy acts like when the console finally hits the market, that's the finish line. So do all the amico followers. But I just don't see the system being supported much past launch.
The PS1 controller was a fantastic controller, and nearly every controller afterward was largely based off of that design, YES the X-Box controller is a bit different but the PS2-PS3-PS4-PS5 controllers are just slight variations of the PS1 controller and the X-Box 360-Xbox1 and whatever the new Xbox systems controller are all more or less based off of the PS1 design, SO what does Tommy do? Let's go back to the style of the 1979 Intellivision awful controller design. That should have told EVERYONE right off the bat to stay the fuck away from the Amico and anything Tommy is involved with.
@Marc Carran OK first let's say, NO the SNES layout has 4 buttons AB XY BUT they are slanted at an angle the PS1 uses AB XY but they are positioned more like a D-pad in that they are LEFT RIGHT UP DOWN, so the button letters are the same but they are configured very differently. Second, they are NOT pointless in that every 4th-5th-6th generation console (aside from things like the WII) has settled on pretty much the same design. Amico controllers are NOTHING like modern controllers and that is what this whole video was about. Try to keep up.
@Marc Carran You are totally ignoring the point. 30+ years of controller advancements to come to the best configuration for controllers, only for Amico to say, Nah, this design from the 1970s is better. To put it in terms that even you can understand. Look at modern cars, with all of their safety features and modern conveniences (Air conditioning, heating, anti-lock brakes, onboard computers, satellite radio etc etc) and then Amico says, Nah the cars from the 1970's with none of those features is better.
@Marc Carran I think the fact that the modern controllers all strongly resemble the PS1 controller makes my comment very much ON the mark. but agree to disagree.
Whats wrong with my phabulous controller format? Its phamily phriendly and phairly phunctional..⁰ Im Phloppy Phallarico and ive got Pherrari payments to make
I think the Tallaricovision is a silly product without an audience outside of UA-camrs, but I'm fine if that isn't the case. The Intellivision controller sucked when it first came out, I'm sure this is not better.

The Amico has been one big dumpster fire from start to finish. I don't know whether to laugh or shake my head because of how preventable most of their fucks ups have been.
Amico, the gift that keeps on giving...
These guys are going to have a field day when they find out they've stolen artwork for their new tank game
Lmao....I was thinkin the same thing
@@DReidDaLegend maybe Tommy can blame it on chip shortages? i dunno
Fans are already claiming that they got permission from the publishers to use their assets. Okay, let’s get an official statement that Gaijin Entertainment allowed them to use some War Thunder images.
@@ccricers it's more than just War Thunder from what I saw, but yeah, sure let's wait and see
They should get Billy Mitchell to be spokesperson for the amico....
I didn't realize it, but German gov't grants and tax loopholes are something that this Amico fiasco has in common with Uwe Boll. The difference of course being that Uwe Boll has successfully made dozens of terrible films and Tommy still needs to get this thing out the door.
As a German taxpayer I'm proud to have co-financed all these great gems of movie and gaming history.
Thank you for your sacrifice
Speaking of German funding, has anyone ever seen Tommy Tallarico and Uwe Boll at the same time? Are we sure Tommy isn't just Uwe in a wig?
Heard some online chatter about how the Amico tank game is ripping off assets from World of Tanks
Atari VCS, Coleco Chameleon Intellivision Amico...
Retro hype, modern failures.
They all wanted to do retro & do it differently...but none had a clue what to really do to be different
Atari VCS = exist
Intellivision Amico = Trying to exist
Coleco Chameleon = Doesn't exist
@@VOAN true but trying to exist & not existing when it had previously been announced they would exist is still failure.
I love when you said, the problem is…oh yeah in conjunction with price and the next issue, so basically the system is flawed on too many levels
instead of coal, bad boys and girls getting an Amico in their stockings this year
The other day I saw a new video on my list from Intellivision, about 15 minutes long, but when I tried to play it, it had already been removed. Any idea on what that was all about?
And thanks for making me eyeroll a work email I thought came in at 04:03.
0:50 well that image is gonna give me nightmares, but at least it’s not as scary as the Amico controller
"Turkey point?" 😆👏
Ahhhhh, my dose of the Amico has come. Time to stick the kettle on and enjoy the continued storm of shit that has been the Intellivision.
If they ever release it, you'll be able to get it for pennies about six months later.
@@BrokenCircus You could probably take it from the kiosk and none would even notice.
Well, sadly they only went with Wollmichsau and not Eierlegende Wollmilchsau.
Every part of the Amico is the real problem, right down to it sounding like a stupid nickname for Tallarico.
Turkey point is a nuclear facility in florida.
"Spongey Buttons" is going to be my jazz name.
Is there a poll on whether this controller will be better or worse than the OUYA controller?
This one system has more games developed in Germany than I can name after 40 years of gaming. I’m honestly struggling to think of one major development house to come out of Germany aside from Crytek.
Factor 5. Crytek is not from Germany.
I love listening to you guys shit on the Amico and Tommy Tallarico! The whole project is such a joke and it is a dead on arrival product.
everything about this screams living in the past and trying to sell you someone else's nostalgia to you which is not a good sign
This is lie someone being like we've perfected the 56k modem!!
The fearless protagonist has fought back by stealing assets and doing zero QC.
Even the Original NES Games that Swapped the Button B for A was Too Disrupting
The console's gonna tank! ;)
I dont know whats worse....The actual console or Tommies youtube flunkies constantly pushing this crap 🤣🤣
I never thought I would say this but The Atari VCS is actually looking much better than the Amico with the recharged series and antstream …….and I’m in for a founders edition so that’s not good news coming from me .
Bro anything more complicated than a joy con these days as far as accessibility goes is d.o.a.
Or if that's too complicated, a stick with a button on top attached to a variable resistor.
The LED on controller could have some good implementations, I'm thinking like in games like Hellfite where indicates weapon selection. Or to indicate which opponent player is low on life, rather than have the usual life bar on screen. Time will see how they get creative with it I guess, or if
The Wii U proved people don't want to be looking back and forth.
So, I’m not clear. Are you getting one of these consoles or not Pat?
Nintendo swith is cheaper and much better. You don't buy hardware, you buy software. People buy switch because of the games, not because of the specs.
Maybe they will create a new controller now after this review and therefore delay it for 2 years.
I can see a community of people hacking it , and having a good time with it, it has enough power to run Dreamcast, maybe light GameCube games. Hopefully it can be modified to have normal controller support.
Pat did anyone see them tap the physical download cards on the machine to see if. the games actually work on the amico?
unless it's the Duke controller.
I would like to try one but I would not pay for one unless it costs less than 30 dollars. I mean for everything and every game.
The Amico is really just a fancy mobile gaming device that can be connected to a tv. Kinda like the Switch but MUCH worse.
So the Ouya then...
Haha. I read this article some days ago. Really funny to hear you guys talk about german media. 😂 Greetings from Hamburg, Germany ♥️
Amcio is a poor mans Switch. Games look dated. The controller looks like a glorified McDonalds toy.
It looks like a foot spa for iPods
Where is Earthworm Jim??
What, you mean the nearest thing the Amico could have to a killer app? You think it's a bit mysterious that the *ONE GAME* they hypothetically _SHOULDN'T SHUT UP ABOUT_ is mysteriously missing after a meager animation test?
That is the rock bottom of the issue. The intellvision sucked in 1979 and still does to this day.
So is Amico DOA?
Turkey Point is a real beach town in Ontario lol.
Heise it a relieable source
Whats wrong with my phabulous controller format? Its phamily phriendly and phairly phunctional..⁰ Im Phloppy Phallarico and ive got Pherrari payments to make
It’s not 1994? You’ve never been to Bavaria have you? Hair metal mullets and shell suits are still all the height of fashion there
DOA.... the controller is a piece of shit.
And there supposed to release a new entry to the earthworm Jim on this thing 🤦♂️
They're, and no, they never once had permission
I think the Tallaricovision is a silly product without an audience outside of UA-camrs, but I'm fine if that isn't the case. The Intellivision controller sucked when it first came out, I'm sure this is not better.
Jesus the amico controller is so wrong
Why couldnt it have buttons
Just a another generic android box it will come and go within 2 months of launch if it ever does
This is gonna be juicy. My friday martinee. hehehe
Ian, STOP shaking the table!
