Such a great engine. Had one in a Xair Falcon (uk). Many trouble free hrs. Great strip down video and thank you for sharing.
Enjoy your detailed videos. What is your opinion of the oil injection system on the 582? I am running a brand new 582 and the oil injection is always in the back of my mind. I am thinking about eliminating it and going premix which seems like an odd thing to do on a zero since new engine.
The oil pump system is very durable, however it must be feed clean oil! Using the proper oil filter is a must. I would Inspect the oil lines in every preflight.
It’s been my experience that some Canadian airports won’t fill “gas cans”, they’ll only fill a built in aircraft fuel tank. So if your traveling the oil pump is much more convenient in that respect. In my opinion if the “oil injection is always in the back of my mind” it’s going to take away from your flying enjoyment, then you should seriously consider going to premix.
Hey, John. Thank you for doing these detailed breakdown and inspection videos, explaining all the critical details and reasoning for issues and potential issues you come across. I've got a 582 that's been standing preserved in a light sport similar to a kitfox for 5 years. Overdue for an inspection but only 5 hours out of its last service. I had been noticing the carbs fill up with the dosing oil constantly and couldn't figure out why. Thought I might have a defective pump. Now I understand that it might be those check valve fittings. I'll try make contact with you, I'd love to pick your brain from here in South Africa on a couple things, you have such a wealth of knowledge. Thanks again for doing these videos.
Thank you for your kind words and I’m glad the video assisted you locate the oil issue. I’ve added a detailed oil pump system video to my to do list.
