at first i thought you were being sarcastic but in a way your 100% right etsy turns a blind eye to certain shops and will suspend other new accounts for doing the same thing its crazy
I was being sarcastic. BUT you are right. Etsy seems to allow this. They make money off these listings with their processing fees, transaction fees and most importantly to them, ad fees. There is no reason why they couldn't write a few lines of code to get rid of all this. :)
I love this Will! You crack me up! 😄
Thanks! :)
Hey thanks for the info brother! I was legit trying to get started with Etsy and was considering starting with Disney shirts, but I didn't sit back and think about the ethical nature of selling Disney "inspired" products. I'm glad you posted this!
They sell like crazy! (Because Disney is a huge brand of course) But yeah it's not legal.
MIND BLOWN! I can't wait to implement these tips and watch my etsy store blow up. I'll be waiting for the congratulations letter! 😀
If you steal correctly and sell a lot of trademark stuff you'll get that letter quick! :)
@@willhaimerl 🤣
It Is odd that some huge successful shops are so popular and blowing up and Etsy and Shopify allow it. Smaller shops get shut down quickly. I’m here bc I searched if they can hand sketch characters but I know they didn’t. 🤦🏽♀️👀
I don't get how Etsy let's some shops live longer and others are shut down quick. I think it's playing with serious fire to even do this though. (that's why I won't). :)
@@willhaimerl I imagine it's just like the government does with crime. They take part in the profits from biggest the criminals and even facilitating it, then go after all the low hanging fruit, the end users. Then they can go, "Look! We're using your tax dollars to go after the bad guys and protect you!"
This video is greatness!!
Thank you. :)
This is greatness. I love the sarcasm.
I think some Etsy sellers use the video as a how to guide! :)
Love the video
:)
I've worked with Disney as a licensor for many years and they don't mess around. For the shops that have 100% counterfeit product, I pray for you haha.
Are they just SUPER backlogged? There's sooooo many counterfeit products on there! :)
At the end of the day. Copyright, Trademark or Patent infringement is a federal offense. The consequences borders 4 years in jail and US$ 250,000 in fines if convicted.
Not all contents are legit. You know when you read or you do your research and contact the USPTO. Listening to tom dick and harry, karen and kevin not enough. Etsy was sued by its own investors for the same violation. It is just matter of time.
Very true. That Luke Combs crap that recently happened with amazon seller selling his likeness on a tumbler set things backwards though.
LOL epic!
Thanks man. :)
How do they stay up for 46+ months?
My theory is Etsy is not liable for these products, the sellers are. Etsy makes money on EVERY sale. Etsy doesn't care what the sale is for and since they're not liable for the trademark infringement, they let it slide. It's up to the company who is being infringed upon to get it taken down. It's an interesting little loophole Etsy has exploited for profit. :)
I wonder if you can sale print on demand with Jack the skeleton modified by AI midjurney. From the movie the nightmare before Christmas
Would you have thought of that if Jack the Skeleton didn't already exist? Probably not right? I wouldn't. :)
@@willhaimerl I asked because there are some many people selling those for Halloween and Etsy is letting them selling. Event some of them are star sellers
That's the "everyone is doing it so I can too" mentality. Keep an eye on those shops once they get shutdown. It's just a matter of time before they get sued or the legal department of Disney or whichever movie studio it is catches up to them. (They've got a backlog). So yes you could do it, but why risk it? I would rather sleep at night knowing I have a 100% legit shop personally.
@@willhaimerl that's not a type of mentally, it was only a question and don't have to be rude. I sell my own designs and no need to copy any movie. I was just wondering how so many people selling illegal things on Etsy and people who is original is not selling the same volume, because Etsy is not doing their job of taking those listings down. So I was wondering how good or bad is that online store. Amazon would never allow you to do that an keep selling and even give you stars
@@nalemax true, (I'm sorry that came off as rude that wasn't my intention). I don't know why Etsy doesn't get on it. It's got to be a money thing because they cash in on every single transaction from sellers. Then they hide behind that "we are not responsible for rouge sellers" b.s. I guess. Anytime I see a new shop just taking off it's normally due to selling trademark infringing stuff. It's sad.
Hilarious - shame is these people are stealing from creators and stealing sales from genuine Etsy sellers.
It is. Etsy could stop it but they don't. :(
It’s infringement this is like a joke right? I have done it with hogwarts but not like your saying.
A joke? No, everyone should sell Disney products! :) It's the fastest way to success and a nice "congratulations" letter from Disney lawyers.
It's hard to breath 😅😆🤣😂🤣
Just take deep breaths and focus on how much money you can make doing exactly what i suggest in the video. :)
What about selling Harry Potter on etsy
I wouldn't. But lots of people are.
lmao
They will take down etsy soon enough
At this point, I wonder what kind of deal they have. Maybe Etsy and Disney have an agreement where Etsy pays them for all this TM stuff?
@@willhaimerl we've had a competitor sell all disney stuff all year, and watching their sales equal ours for so much more hard work is so so disappointing on etsy'
