That looked vastly overpriced to me I would have guessed around £8.99 !! processed turkey and frozen veg no thanks !! A local near here charges £12 and it’s all fresh !!
@ Yes really ! who wants to eat out and have processed meat and frozen veg ? you would just stay at home !! that meal was worth a fiver at best ! watch Gary Eats video on the same meal for a better opinion !
@@rice1401 Please don't fall into the trap of favouring one UA-cam food reviewer over another. We don't all like the same things (thank God!) As long as they're sharing their honest opinion with us, it's all good. I wasn't impressed with this Wetherspoons meal either, pretty shabby for a roast dinner IMO, and very poor for a supposedly 'special' Christmas offering. Wetherspoons could surely do better without eating into their profits. Last year many UA-cam reviewers complained about the lack of roast potatoes - Outrageous!
So on your recommendation me and the family also tried the Christmas meal at the angel today and I can honestly say you were not wrong that meal was lovely I agree roast potatoes as well would have been a lovely add on but all in all a damn good meal so thank you.
There's a couple of channels I subscribe to have reviwed the christmas dinner form different places and were not impresssed and have mentioned the omission of roast potatoes needs a yorkshire pudding. You must have got lucky with the quality of yours.
Gary Eats got 5 slices of Turkey, half the quantity of gravy and a stuffing ball that would have taken Joe Root's off stump clean out the ground. I can only assume there is a superior microwaving technique in this Whitby Spoons. Those extra 2 slices of Turkey maybe feeding someone's dog tonight? 😜
A glorified school dinner, the turkey looked thin and lacked substance. No roasties either, definitely not a Christmas dinner other than the name. Sorry Simon.
I reckon a couple of rost spuds and even 1 small yorkshire pud would top that off nicely Simon. But like you say, 'Not bad for the money'. I think Tim is finding it more difficult to give value for money these days, with food prices going through the rafters. He does try though. He does make a fortune, but tries his best to treat his customers fairly. Cheers mate.
Hey Simon - I always love to see Christmas dinner reviews for the chain restaurants/pubs, so thanks for checking out Wetherspoons' 2024 offering. I recall they came in for stick last year from many foodie UA-camrs, for the missing roast potatoes. It's disappointing they didn't listen to that feedback, and are serving the exact same, in my opinion very unexciting meal this festive season. I'm amazed you think three processed turkey slices, some mash, frozen peas & carrots (YAWN), a single stuffing ball/marble, and a pair of, 'hampster-dick' pigs-in-blankets, even constitutes a roast dinner, least of all a Christmas roast dinner. It's just as well you weren't especially hungry! Is that great value for £12.99? Everything's gone up so much, I guess it's to be expected - but half your plate was peas! Most Brits don't regard it as a roast dinner without the inclusion of roast potatoes and (nowadays) a Yorkshire pudding, at the very least (Yorkshires are huge now in every sense, and no longer a beef-only thing, they're expected with every meat/poultry option). So is it really a 'roast dinner' as advertised, without even a couple of roast potatoes and a Yorkshire pud? I don't think so. A Christmas roast dinner should be a bit generous, with extra elements that add variety and a feeling of opulence - eg another potato/root vegetable dish alongside the roasties, say mashed potato/swede, and honey roast parsnips. The veg should be a bit more special than cliched carrots and peas, it is the biggest holiday of the year after all. Sprouts are generally expected on Christmas Day, and there's umpteen delicious vegetable side dishes that add value (eg red cabbage, cauliflower cheese, creamed spinach, baked leeks, roasted shallots etc etc). Now I appreciate a chain like Wetherspoons won't push the boat out like your Mum will on the big day, with a mountain of home-cooked dishes. My point is they should make some effort to produce a meal that feels special/celebratory. We know they buy it all in frozen and pre-prepared, hence it's very quickly cooked (your dinner arrived in the 'Ping' of a microwave). I honestly don't understand why they can't add two roast potatoes, two honey roast parsnips and one Yorkshire pudding (all frozen and cooked fast), to the plate you got, to make it resemble something like an actual Christmas dinner. This needn't increase the price much, but it would add a lot of value, and give it a festive feel. Incidentally, what's the obsession with forcing damn cranberries on us every Crimbo? The pot of cranberry sauce on your plate filled the space that should have held the roasties, but it added little to the meal. The rest of the year is a cranberry-free zone thank God (they're as sour as hell), but come November the supermarkets and chain restaurants/takeouts are slipping cranberries into every convenience food they sell, be it a frozen cheese and ham pasty from 'Iceland', the 'KFC' Christmas chicken sandwich, or Aldi's festive trifle. The only good thing to be said for cranberries is they cure Cystitis! 🤣🤣🤣 Reckon I'll stick to Wetherspoons' fish & chips. Thanks for taking one for the team! 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄

Hello Sir Simon, well you pays yer money and takes yer choice. A couple of others have given Weatherspoons Festive Fodder the once over. Gary Eats & Greeno Eats. Both were sadly disappointed. I watch the video with intense curiosity. A plesent interior, and I love the almost classic " roaring log fire " A standard Spoons meal. Same ingredients, just a different crew doing the cooking. I have said before, the staff can make or break the establishment. You have struck lucky. It is what it is. Value for the money 😊 😊yes, down the road maybe not so. Would have liked Mrs M's opinion, if only on the plonk 🍷🤯 Another interesting, informative and very good video. Ta and ho 🦊🐩🐎Allan&Family
Was the food/plate hot, I doubt it. I have had meals in a number of Wetherspoons over the last number of years and always cool food and cold plates. Unless eaten within a very few minutes, the food is cold. I am very reluctant to eat at Wetherspoons now. It would not be rocket science to serve on hot plates and the food to be hot when presented to the table. I admit I do prefer my food hot. People who like their food cool can always wait for the temperature to drop. It can never get warmer.
Wetherspoons are great, l use them all the time when cycling, l don't have a negative to mention. And....if l was opening a micro bar or indie pub (which wouldn't because l'd drink all the beer) then l'd open one as close to a Spoons as possible, they bring footfall to an area, this is a miracle in many places.
Where are the new potatoes and Yorkshire pudding..,parsnips ? But joking aside it does look nice… Bruxelles sprouts ? Roast potatoes, runner beans cheesey cauliflower…red cabbage, green cabbage.cheesey mash, carrots, broccoli, swede,Leeks, onion gravy, jacket potatoes..
@ cauliflower was always a regular and for a few decades they’ve been cheeseying it up as it were..its a great complement to a Christmas meal..it goes down well with the punters…

Can’t believe you said it was good value pricey for a plate of peas they took up nearly half of the plate turkey looked processed hardly any mash and no roasties looked like typical weatherspoon fast food you must have money to burn
