@@moby1kanob He definitely is. Back when I was taught in the early 70s, there was little to no knowledge about El Nino or La Nina. And as for visual technology, it was typically teletypes and slow-scan facsimile machines. Radar and satellites were barely 15 years old and certainly not the technological wonders they are today.

Luckily I learned all of that in school, and from being a surfer/Lifeguard in CA. We’re obsessed with weather when it comes to predicting waves/wind, and we love El Niños, it brings big waves. What stuck out the most to me about El Niño is that all the fish life dies in South America because the water gets too hot and the people and fish industry suffer down there, and after El Niños we usually get a lot of wild fires because all the shrubs and plants grow big from the rain, then dry out during summer causing 50-100’ tall wall of flames.

La nina's give us the rains not the El Nino's in California. People often confuse the two and how they work. El nino brings warmer water to cold water in pacific, dries out the west and adds rain to the middle of the country and out east coast..La Nina adds colder water to the Atlantic and as a by product makes the west have more rain and dries the east out... La Nina's typically follow El Nino's but not always in their cycles. We have known this for decades.. Cheers!

Then, after about 5 minutes, its started hailing tiny pellets, and made the Central Valley of california look like it was snowing. While all of this was going on, there was large thunderstorms while it was raining, and hailing, in march. All of the rivers became extremely tall and almost overflowed onto the streets, which has never happened before.

We still have feet of snow to come down from the highest parts of our mountains the Wasatch Mountains. The farmer's have yet to start planting because the fields are to wet. The Rivers here are over running their banks and we are finally breaking the severe drought we have been in. We are getting dryer weather but now they are weeks behind in planting their crops. Last year during the summer, here in Long Island, NY we were 1 week away from going into a State of Emergency for a drought and rules to be enforce to limit use of water. That last week, we suddenly got rain...and in this past winter, mostly heavy rain and warmer temperatures. The only cold snap of weather we had was during Christmas but the air was dry.
From January through most of the Winter, we had more rain than anything. If it was cold, each storm would've probably dropped over 2ft of snow.
This summer will again be dry because once the heat settles over the East Coast, probably no rain until temperatures drop down to around 60° again.

I live in the South West where we have had a very long period of drought. Several years ago we went an entire year without any measurable moisture. It had gotten so bad that all of the juniper and pine forest in the nearby mountains were dying. This created an excellent for wildfires. Once time I was on a drive and from the road I was on I could see five massive, as in miles wide, pillars of smoke rising in the distance from multiple different fires. This year though we have gotten more snow and moisture then anytime I can remember since the late 90s.

I live in Indiana -- a transplant from Texas. We moved to Indiana in 2015, during the Super El Nino. Three and four inch rainfalls were common during the summer of 2015. Thanksgiving and Christmas were both so warm that we ate Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas dinner outside on the table on our front porch, with temperatures in the 70s and 60s, respectively. The winter of 2015-2016, we had eight inches of snow the entire winter in Indianapolis, and our flowers had bloomed by the beginning of Spring.

Yet I really never hear anything about how the Great Lakes and how much they affect our weather.
Though after this clip it really makes me wonder how serious The Great Lakes winter weather will be especially how much snow we could get or more rain than snow.
Out of all this I really do worry about our wildlife, I remember 8-9 years ago several birds came up here early then ended up dieing bc of late winter air.
Thanks for sharing and I'll be looking forward to an answer to how serious our 2023 - 2024 winter could be.

El Ninos bring heavy snowstorms for the East coast. So it makes sense why we had the blizzard of '98 hit the mid-atlantic states. If we continue to have an El Nino go into next year, there is a chance that the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic could experience a big time snowstorm in the winter months.
