Erin Thompson I get what you're saying, but I think the tinge to her voice is an artistic choice in this performance to strengthen the dichotomy between the two halves of a very particular personality she's trying to convey in this song; it's very much akin to storytelling. Listen to how she's switching between registers on the same syllable of a word. I'm willing to bet she's doing it on purpose. I've heard her sing lower notes live, and she can definitely hit them and sustain them without the use of vocal fry. She's a very skilled technical singer, and it's easy to be deceived by her vocal stylings.
