Do these new rules/laws also apply to those getting to Europe on rafts made from tire inner tubes, or those packed into small fishing boats?
I think it's a much better deal to get to Europe by the tire innertube/small fishing boat method; you end having all your expenses paid by the local governments - free housing, free medical, free everything. It's really a great system.

As per my knowledge this measure is a kick back from Europe to the mentioned nations. My daughter is an Italian citizen, to enter Canada she requires something similar to ETIAS - eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization). And that requiremnt is there since long time ago - 2012. That's creepy towards Italians as the second largest Canadian diaspora.
As far as I know all visa and other entry requirements are based on the Reciprocal Visa Exemption Arrangements. It's not clear why Europe and America can't or don't want to solve this issue.

Come 2023 when we're on our trip planning what's next, book two weeks in Croatia, only to realize weeks later that it's now Schengen as of January 2023. We ended up overstaying our Schengen visa by accident 🤦

You obviously don’t know what’s going on in your own country! I’m an Australian and every time I travel to the US, I have to fill out an ESTA application which cost me US$21 before I can enter your country. In fact, I can’t even get on the plane without showing that I have obtained this document. You are maybe being sarcastic in view of your current illegal immigrant situation, in which case I apologise 😢 But I have seen so many comments from Americans complaining about how the US should also introduce a scheme like this to punish Europe for daring to do this that i felt compelled to reply in this manner.

Not sure if it's a troll, but the US has more or less a similar system in place for something like 20 years, which is much more stricter (also applies to transit flights, short validity) and much more expensive.

Seems every travel you tube channel is churning out these new ETIAS videos - do you all just watch each other and churn out the same information, nothing new. Your title alludes to this being something more immediate - not a whole year away (and even then who knows), might have saved everyone a whole lot of worry by leading with 2025 !!
You also need to update your map - its out of date and you should know this. Croatia joined the Schengen zone last year, Romania and Hungary joined this year.

    • @awaytogether

Hi there - much of our audience cares about Europe travel and I felt I needed to make an ETIAS video in case someone hadn't heard! Honestly I felt like I was 'late to the punch' on this information. The timing is awkward - sorry you feel clickbaited. Nothing in the packaging for this video says immediate, and the hashtag for this video, displayed right under the player says 2025. Thank you for pointing out the Schengen map error. We do know this - just grabbed an old map in this instance. Were more focused on the news of ETIAS than checking each schengen country. We'll do better.

I frequently visit countries that will be using these systems and it is easy to apply but seems strange to require those citizens from close connection with genuine tourism goals, but allow anyone walk over the borders and claim housing, funds and open access even with no ID if they claim they are immigrants. It is far less enjoyable to take a vacation in Europe new and getting worse monthly with crime against tourists exploding , the homeless dominating sights and points of interest. Europe is in serious decline and now is not the fun interesting destination it used to be. I have been in 92 countries and most of them are getting better while Europe and USA, my native country are in steep decline. The last time I was in Paris it was dirty and scary when it used to be a great destination. I was in London last year and was surprised that now, 64% of the residents are recent immigrants, and it looks really run down with high crime rates. I live in St Petersburg Russia a stunning highly cultured city, and it is so much safer, friendlier, open and almost crime free. And cheap to visit.
So mush of Asia Middle East, Central Asia, Africa, South America are actually safer and have growing economies but Europe shows the signs of decay and seems to have been much better to remember how it used to be than see it now. Adding one more obstacle, even if minor and low cost, that makes one question their travel plans.
