- I am hell bent on learning this instrument only my death will stop me. I have been at it a week now and am deep into it.
Please join the forum " Zither.us" if you are interested in learning this instrument. There are not many Zitherists around any more. If you need a challenge?....then try this little baby!
I bought a 100 year old zither made in Munich, found it in an antique store. It needs a bit of work plus a whole new set of strings. But I love it and can't wait to take lessons, either online or maybe here in Portland, Oregon, USA.
Peter, I love listening to you go through your beginner exercises. It helps me look forward to when it is my turn to begin.
OK, now. I only see two videos. Will you return and make some more? 27 subscribers may be waiting!
Hi! You are doing fabulous for a starter! Keep on going! 😀😀😀
I hope you don't mind if I tell you some tips on easier learning zither.
Put your fingers (left hand) more to the right side of fret (I hope you understand) for the clearer sound.
Use left-right moving fingers for vibrato- less damage to steel.
Lean right side of right hand on black wood (little higher cca 2cm than now) and imagine you are holding a pencil on table. Now just move your thumb down on melody strings.😀

Thank you for your kind tips. It is very hard to learn without a teacher.
I will try to practice as you have said.
Good luck - you're doing really well already. I just started with the zither last year and am determined to learn before I pop my clogs! I can play loads of instruments but this is the most difficult I have ever come across and there's no one around in the UK who plays who can help me.
Thank you Richard.
Yes i need to master it before i pop the clogs as well.
Yes, it is not easy to play.
Yes, the globe is pretty devoid of Zither players.
All i can say is......please dont give up!
Join the www.zither.us forum and i am sure you will be welcomed.
There are only a few of us so the more that try this beautiful instrument , the better we shall all be.
We are...." The few!"

Nice to see someone else playing the zither! It's a dying instrument, but we can still revive it!
Hey I know this was two years ago but I started a discord server dedicated to the zither! We’ve got some good players on there but I’m pretty new to the zither. Let me know if you’re interested
Short time ago I started too with Zither. It is a great challenge. Very difficult to play as beginner clear sounds with no disturbing noises. Greetings from Germany.
I think I shall have to subscribe.
Greetings from Wisconsin.
Ok, but this guy is so cute, y'all. He's so sweet!
Hi Peter, you are not alone. I live in South Wales UK. I started to teach my self the concert zither in May last year. A Framus I found on ebay with 32 strings. It had some books with it and a music stand to go on the table. I did however already have a copy of the instruction book for zither by A Darr which I believe is the only one translated to English. After a few months I purchased a zither from Horst Wunsche in Markneukirchen which is a much better instrument and easier to play. I've been learning simple waltzes from books and also some lovely stuff ( by ear ) on UA-cam, but I can't play up to speed on a lot of tunes yet, my right hand fingers still drift off position. Like you, I left it a bit late, I'm now 68, but I'm very fortunate in that I'm very musical, I have loads of instruments. The zither is a real challenge but I see it as a hobby to enjoy and to have fun with. I have some videos on UA-cam which includes an electric chord zither which you might like to see. Let me know if you need any help with any thing. Thanks for the vid.
I hope you're still around and wonder what ever came of your zither playing.
You were doing really well considering you didn't know anything about it at all. Well done & thank you!
Wow
How are you going now? I have just bought an antique zither here in New Zealand. I have yet to get strings for it, but will as soon as I can afford both the strings and shipping. I would love to hear how you are playing now
Hey I know this was 10 months ago but I started a discord server dedicated to the zither! We’ve got some good players on there but I’m pretty new to the zither. Let me know if you’re interested
Very nice. I just got myself a very similar, 5+ 28 strings, probably from 1974 West Germany, but when tuning I broke one string :( . Could you send me your tuning? I normally play piano, but I want to try to have some fun.
I’m so jealous!!!
Hej ! I'd really like to see a clip that would show us how to Tune the zither !! Where could we find one ?
Hi, I would like to knowwhere to buy this kind of zither, can you share some links?
I mean this instrument
Oh man, please get rid of the chair screeching at the beginning.
Is your fast forward button broken?
