Thanks for the reminder. I did try this once, but since there are multiple users of the the instruments, the others would forget to turn it on. So I guess this DI is sort of a "fail-safe" approach.
For stereo you need two 1/4" input cables and two XLR output cables. And the "mono sum" switch must be OFF. For mono the easiest is just use your keyboard's "left/mono" output jack.
Hi Randy.. if I use this DI box for my keyboard, can I still maintain a stereo output going into 1 XLR channel on the desk? I just need my output sounding stereo as opposed to mono
Hello there! I believe you can, but it depends on how the desk has set up the input and output for your keyboard. In my case, they initially provided just one XLR for the Nord of our church, so I employed this DI Box to output the 2 channels of the keyboard to the desk just so I am assured that my keyboard was sending all signals to the desk. Like mentioned in the video, there is a switch on this DI Box that will sum-up the 2 output channels into a single output. FYI I have since ditched this DI Box because our church eventually gave me two channels for the Nord (and 2 DI boxes) so that the Nord can now output in stereo. I hope that helps!
Can my keyboard be directly input into a mixer without using a di box? The other instruments also goes to that mixer but they run thru a di box. Can't it damage the pa system if my keyboard input directly to the mixer?
Hi there! You can directly connect to the mixer if you are near it. DIBoxes, I believe, are being used when there is a significant distance from the mixer, to prevent humming, I think.
@@RandySantaAna ohh! so I can totally plug my keyboard into it without thinking damaging my PA system then? I also watched some vids saying you shouldn't plug directly an instrument into a mixer going to the PA system to prevent damaging it.
Hi Randy, one question, did you noticed some differences with sound after? Is this dibox in chain audibled, like new equalization for example? ; ) Thank you.
Hi Krab! I did notice a slight difference in the sound, most especially in the pads that we have loaded in the Nord Stage 2EX that we use in church. The pads sounded slightly fuller. As for being chain audible and equalization, I can't say much or hear much as honestly, our sound system is not that great.
Hi Marky! Yes, there are some a couple of passive stereo DI Boxes that I looked into that has stereo-to-mono summing feature. One is a bit on the expensive side, the Radial Engineering R8001010JDI. amzn.to/3CR5iIc Another one is the Samson MD2 Pro Stereo Passive Direct Box amzn.to/3q4N6mG. Both has the stereo-to-mono summing feature.
Yes po! I only heard about the Radial Engineering Stagebug SB2 from you, and after checking it out po, pwedeng-pwede nga po an alternative ito dahil may stereo to mono function.
@@RandySantaAna question lang po hehe kapag po ba na-convert from stereo to mono, ang tunog niya same pa din? As in parang nka stereo out ka pa din pero isang channel lang magagamit sa mixer/PA?
@@brianbrazil3082 Yes po, Bro. Only thing missing is yung tunay na stereo sound where nagpa-pan ang tunog, say if yung patch na being used has true stereo effect po.

Oh, this situation only happened because of the limited connection we used to have in our Church. At that time, I was only allocated one channel from the front-of-house for the Nord, hence the need for this stereo DI box that can sum up the two output channels of this instrument to get the full range of sound. I have since been given two channels that now is able to take full advantage of stereo sound coming out of the Nord, so I have not been using this stereo DI box anymore.
Thank you for making this video for all who may have a question about connecting a stereo di to their keyboard .
I am very happy to be of help! Thanks for checking out the video, and God bless!
Thank you SO much for this video! This box is exactly what I've been looking for!
The Nord has a Mono Out feature. Hold Shift and press mono out (located near middle C). This will combine Ch1 and Ch2 into Ch1 Out.
Thanks for the reminder. I did try this once, but since there are multiple users of the the instruments, the others would forget to turn it on. So I guess this DI is sort of a "fail-safe" approach.

I want stereo output sounds from my keyboard can I get a stereo sound if i follow this rules?
It will sum up the two outputs of your keyboard into one channel, meaning you will be able to get the full range of sound coming from your keyboard.
Happy Sunday. Qs: When you need to use the mono sum signal, don’t you need to turn the switch on?
A Happy Sunday to you as well! Yes, to use mono sum signal, you do need to turn the switch on (button switch in up position).

Because many gigs only have mono coming out of the PA.
