I lived in Seattle from '84 to '98, got a degree at the U and hung around for some years afterward. It changed a lot during those years. Got really expensive and lost its neighborhood vibes. Now when the Emerald City is in the news, it is unrecognizable to me.
For 10 years -- when I wasn't riding my bike -- I took the bus and transferred in downtown. Saw people dealing drugs. Saw people shoplifting. Saw people panhandling. Got approached many times for money by able-bodied men. I've worked since I was 15. One year I had three jobs. I've had roommates most of my adult life to be able to afford rent. To top it off, I suffer from anxiety, depression, OCD, ADD, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, tinnitus, knee pain, and food addiction. I still get off my butt and work, full-time at that. Let's face it, with its lenient liberal laws Seattle enables people. Now we're seeing the consequences.

seattle is spending upwards of 50-100k per year per homeless persons...and it is the middle class that is paying for this preposterous expenditure. When a working man is injured on the job...at most he can expect a few thousand...maybe a few tens of thousands of help over the course of his recovery to go back to work. IS it sensible for the gov to spend a million over ten years to help a junkie who has never done anything in his life of value? I'm all for helping people...but finances are limited and subsidizing junkies at a hundred k per pop seems a lot less sensible than say feeding a few thousand starving kids for the same money.

How has defunding the police going for Seattle 🤣 you get what you asked for .
yes, the city listened to BLM, a group that hasn't done anything to reduce black on black crime but knows how to riot when another race is involved.

In person shopping in a old building with nothing above it. Taking vital land we need for housing and services. Not retail.
