- Episode 8 in our How to Grow Hot Peppers from Seed series. This is our 2nd episode about pruning the tops of hot pepper plants to make them bushier with higher yields. We’ll speed top a tray of plants, and then look at the results of previously topped plants.

I never tire of looking at plants.
I love looking at plants 🪴 especially when they are in those small pots and they flower and fruit. That’s why I watch Kang Starr videos too, especially when they’re planted in small tiny pots and filled with pepper fruits on them. Gardening indoors mostly and some outdoors watching the plants flower and fruit never tires me. As a matter of fact it’s so breath taking when I see them so healthy and happy. Plants return their gratitude back to you to bring a smile on your face. I like the plants that you grew in this video because they are healthy and topping them help them have more branches to have more flowers and fruits. You are so awesome making this video and us gardeners don’t tire from growing peppers, tomatoes, and all other vegetables. Please keep up with your videos.
Omg you got me constantly singing your jingle every time I see my pepper plants
I never get tired of looking at pepper plants haha!
I know I am deep into 7 pot club when I am almost 4 years back haha. I'm on a Rob kick today.
Hard to believe I've been doing this for 4 years!
It is necessary to cut off only the very top and, as it grows, remove 10 crown flowers to gain green mass, and preferably all flowers until mid-summer. Greetings from Russia
They are looking good Rob
I love your obsessive manner. Love how organized you are. 👍🏼👍🏼
You should see my messy office and music studio. 😀
Thanks for making your videos. I love the passion! Can’t wait for my peppers this year!!!
Thanks for watching. Good luck with your peppers!
Sweet! They look like they are doing great!
Hey from Winnipeg. First video of yours i watched and subscribed.
Its my first year growing peppers.
Thanks for subbing! I once spent two weeks in Winnipeg when my band had a gig at a club there.
Thanks for the update Rob. I like those Comfort Grip Floral Snips. Going to check those out.
They are amazing sharp, as I'm sure Cat will attest to!
Great video ! I really enjoy watching all your videos !
Thanks so much! 🌶😀
Your deck is very cool.
Thanks!
Best topping video yet. I'm in your growing zine and in short season zones I've spent 6 years and I top when young but after robust growing weather sets in. Pinch some buds and early light nitrogen. I'm new to the bushy suuperhot trend peppers that come pruned from the greenhouse but I get Cayennes and others at 4-5 feet tall and just as wide. The light fruits are prolific and don't drag it down. Epsom salt foilar spray and a bit in the soil. I'll never not prune them. Som transplants will have 2-4 3 ft long producing branches and the early photos of notes growing in every spot even on a 10: plant turn lanky breeds into bushes.
I like the top my plants maybe three or four times before I even put them outside so they're absolute monsters lol
"For Their Own Good" sounds amazing in this video. I love how mellow yet fun and pretty it sounds.
I hope your album has both vocal and unvocalized versions of the songs you make. Alternatively I'd be happy to have two albums with the vocalized versions on one and unvocalized versions on the either.
My album project is going to be instrumental, some old songs, and some new!
Hay thanks for your videos
Thanks for watching!
I like your video, just ran into it, now im a subscriber. 🌶
Awesome! Thank you!
I never topped off any of my pepper plants in my entire life. I noticed that if I don’t top them off I have poor harvest results especially in potting containers with super hots. I will have to start doing that for now on and focusing on one pepper plant at a time now. Right now I am growing the chocolate butlah for my first time with one plant and I will most definitely top it when it begins to separate. Thanks again for these awesome everyday videos Rob ❤️!! 🎶 🎼 🎵 🌶
Thanks for watching Kevin!
Hey rob!!!! As I’m sure you can verify I watch all your videos!!!! Absolutely love your channel and tell every chilihead I know about you!!!! I live in Florida so I have a little unfair head start against most but all the plants I overwintered are outta control already and just germinated 144 seeds of which 133 of them took off!!!! If you’re ever interested in trying some of mine plz let me know!!!! I’ve sent peppers to a few most notably Johnny scoville ( which was quite the honor) but I’d love to get your input now that I’ve found you!!!!!
Hi Brandon! I'm flattered you love this channel enough to share it! Sounds like your season is off to a good start. If you ever have anything you want to send me, contact me at rob@7pot.club.
Hello from DOWN UNDER enjoy your video very informative thanks for your hard work btw 7 is my lucky number lol
Thanks for watching!
This is seroulsy my new favorite pepper reference channel.. This dude is a fucking riot! (and that's a good thing)
Super cropping is a must for vigorous growth and healthy yields
Hey Rob! I love your videos! Can you tell me why you top them above a Y?
That was the first year I ever topped my plants. Not sure I knew what I was doing! 😀
Just on seeing how thoes have flowers and fruit on the plants im guessing your lights are on 12 hours off 12? Do you think your plants would produce more if you went 18 on 6 off before you plant outside?
Love your videos btw! I'm watching them all before I plant my chocholate 7 pot!
Thanks for watching, Derrick! I actually keep my lights on for 16 hours on and 8 off.
Thanks for the info. As a newbie I appreciate your insight. Living in Iowa, when is it too late to top plants? Just put them outside in the garden, but they are small. No grow lights or anything like that...
Thanks again
I definitely wouldn't top all of them. You need to hedge your bets. If you won't have at least 4-6 leaves left after topping, they're not ready. I'm not sure when is too late, but they need time to produce new growth before they can bud and fruit. Good luck!
7 Pot Club
Thank you so much!!
Just planted some SLP seeds last week (18 to a tray ofc), so naturally I'm on a 7pot club binge 🤣
Question: when you said that you topped the plants 7 weeks after planting (at the 6:50 min mark), was that 12 weeks after transplanting or after the seeds hit the soil? Thanks!!
That would have been 12 weeks after I planted the seeds.
Love your vids! I do have a question for you: do you ever have any issues with cross pollination or anything like that growing your peppers so close together?
Yes, there's cross pollination everywhere in our garden. But it's only a problem if you save and plant the seeds. I only save seeds from varieties that don't easily cross. This year I might try some isolation techniques on a few plants.
Thanks alot I really appreciate the feedback! Good luck growing this year cant wait to watch more videos!
Website where you sell seeds? Just starting and have fell in love.
Hi Griffin! I don't sell seeds, but I get most of mine here: www.semillas.de/cgi-bin/shop_en/shop.cgi
7 Pot Club thank you for tanking the time to reply. I appreciate and will give them a look.
7 Pot Club can’t remember if I told you thank you. Critobal flooded us and a lot on my mind.
what was the end result? maybe i'm using the wrong search terms, but i can't seem to find a conclusion for this experiment
HI MrSchmallz! Thanks for asking. Sorry that search wasn't helping, but you can find the followup videos on my channel at ua-cam.com/users/7PotClub. I would Love to find the hotter Jalapeño plant! Or seeds!
Serrano peppers are hotter and similar in flavor without being super hot you would probably like those. They're longer and skinnier.
Hi Carolyn. Look for an envelope to arrive in the mail later this week!
Rob, can I join your 7 pot pepper club even if I just grow them but don't eat them?
Hi Kelly! Yes, membership is open to everyone!
More dorky then usual! Yes but awesome vid as usual
Do you sell your hot sauce?
No, but you can buy my collaboration hot sauce at hotheadsofficial.com
It's really great and has my peppers in it!
NO! IM ROB!!!
Behind the scenes, it's not as glamorous as you might think.
