Damn I remember going to Chicago years ago with my homies, we were like 10 deep and went to a liquor store on the Southside exactly across from the projects, them niqqas knew we were from out of town right off the rip! A few dudes came in asking where were we from, I responded "DETROIT" they showed us mad love after that and was like shiid we're cousins then lol walked outside and an army of dudes were on stand-by, I was like damn I'm glad we're all cousins🤣 Detroit-Chicago respect.

Chicago gang culture has shifted where before you was either GD, BD, Vice Lord, Stone, 4CH whatever back in the day.
Now today you have factions and sets, where you may have a GD, a BD, a Vice Lord in the same set who shoot at other GDs or Lords from different sets. Its crazy

Well, tbh stuff like that was goin on bk in the day too. Just depends where n what we talkin bout. Even in the late 90s u had YLOs faction, n the renegades of certain gangs who didn’t mess wit the same type. U also had INSANE factions too, n don’t get me started on Cabrini green. They used to kill each other for bad deals, same gang n all. Rn there’s over 500 diff gangs, n most of those “crews” from the 90s r full blown gangs rn

@@moxmann I mean, nah it only got worse n worse. But I remember watchin it explode from the git. Bc I remember when a member could go right into opps territory, n call out buddy 1-1 for a fist fight. Guns were still around, it just was a last resort. Now, no one asks questions. I’ve lost friends n family throughout the yrs, to the street game. I’m glad, I’m away from all that. All of this started by tryin to help out our communities, just look at the Vice Lord heritage. “They” just got at the youngster’s at that time, n showed em how to use the group as a cover to sell/buy/trade contraband.

Our gangs were set up different than cali , historically we never had sets we moved as a body we just had soldiers in different hoods but we were connected citywide,we had a top down heiriarchy with laws,, rules ,structure we went to service (meetings) regularly we basically was more organized crime than a typical gang and that's how all the mobs here operated...u had to "become" what u was claiming so when you became a member u took pride in it ... once rico dismantled the chiefs no one wanted the top slots and the nations fractured into cliques which is why now it's not what u claim it's about where u from ... remove the heads the bodies run wild that's why everyone insane or renegade now ... I'm born and raised in the Chi. I grew up on the north side in Old Town Gardens. Had family in Cabrini. Moved out west off of Cicero and North Ave. I went to Near North. My sister went to Lincoln Park. This was in the 80's and 90's. The gang situation back then was crazy too but there was a code you went by. I had drama when I went in the greens because everybody knew I was from the gardens and then moved out west. So they assumed automatically that I was stone or lord. The fights, getting chased to the train or bus because we was out numbered was what it was. But I have to say this and a lot of people might not agree with me. But if they would have left the projects up all of this wouldn't be this bad. It would be bad but not this crazy. You go out south and it's a different clique on each corner. You go out west and you got a different clique on each block. Up north you don't know who's who. The east side is the danger zone. I was on 40th and Michigan Saturday night visiting a friend who's father had past and I was worried about my car just as much as I was worried about me. You know things bad when downtown has become part of the war zone. Nobody back in the day would even think of going downtown to start something because you knew the consequences. I've known so many people to die or get shot in this month alone. When I ride down lake shore drive in the morning and see the sunrise I feel proud to be from the Chi. But the shit that's happening makes me want to leave again. Something has to happen to change what this beautiful city has turned into.

The criminals took full advantage of that no-bail shit… You got dudes out here on house-arrest for Murders.

Like my mom said, you could be in the hood but not be of it. I lived in Robert Taylor’s. I lived on the southside. I lived on the west side. I used to be around the gangs. But never joined. Conversations like this make me really appreciate my mother for the things that she did do that kept me away from even being interested in that lifestyle. And I don’t judge people who are in that lifestyle. I was afraid of them back in the day. so I just learned how to move around them and stay away from them. My situational awareness skills for them was very high. Very high. Seeing them bully others, because I was fast and they couldn’t catch me and they didn’t shoot at you when you ran either, that’s what made me become the police. I wanted to protect others that could not protect themselves. I just didn’t know how. So I decided to become the police so I could.

I'm from California but live in NYC and the suburbs of Chicago. NYC gun laws are intended to make you give up on the process. They make it almost impossible to legally own a gun in NYC.
Illinois gun laws are great. However, there is not one gun store in the Chicago city limits. The city doesn't allow gun sales. So none of the illegal guns are coming from the city. They are coming from the burbs and the train routes.
Chicago is top 3 most beautiful big cities in this country. It #1 for me. It has one of the cleanest downtowns of the big cities. The food culture is amazing. The rooftop parties in the summer are amazing. The black women are beautiful and don't even know it. There is so much more to Chicago than the violence and gang culture.
