WOW! I made these yesterday and I can't believe how much they taste like hotdogs! Before going WFPB, I maybe ate 1 dog every 5 yrs but always loved pigs in a blanket that we would make for holiday parties. So, I had baby carrots and used Jill's pizza crust recipe and made them just like pigs in a blanket and they were AWESOME!! Made her honey mustard and ranch dressings for dipping!!! I had made the baked bean the previous day, so had those with them and a big green salad!! Thank you again, Jill!!!!!❤👍👏
@@brendabeaudette-kaim6591 I've just come straight from Jill's budget 2-ingredient flatbread recipe to this one. Both combined sound like a fantastic solution for a budget-conscious, healthy snack! 😋🌭🌱
I used my instant pot to cook the carrots for the first step, manual, high pressure for 1 minute, rapid release. I put all the marinade in the pot for the step. Then cooled everything, and put in a Ziploc bag to marinade over night. Just a time saver variation of your original process.
I have been vegan for 63 years before the word vegan was coined, carrot dogs were my go to I cooked them in vinegar water with a clove of garlic, and let it cook 15 minutes them my dogs went on the grill. They were very popular in the 60's, my cooking liquid is the same as NY hot dog carts.
These were so surprisingly delicious! I dislike carrots, but after marinating overnight these were indistinguishable from pork hotdogs! Only the inner color gives it away. This has changed my life, I will never buy premade vegan hotdogs again! Thank you!
That makes me so happy! You are so right; I had a vegan hotdog out a few days ago and all I could think was that I wished I was eating one of my carrot dogs!😀

18 days WFPB and I reaaally appreciate all the great recipes on your channel! It's been so frustrating typing in "Plant Based Recipes" online and all I find are vegan recipes with added oils and sugars
It's my favorite cooking show now...I love how you keep it so simple and short vids. 3 months WFPB for me, so I still have tons to learn. So glad I found your channel.
Been doing this for a while. Key is parboiling the carrot until tender, the marinate. For sure use the liquid smoke, apple cider vinegar, minced garlic, brown sugar, coconut amino, chili sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, lemon juice.
I just made carrot hotdogs and they are a great substitute. I ate nothing but hotdogs while going through college due to an income issue :) (Arco had them 2 for a dollar so I couldn't refuse) and I am now 62 and seem to be fine but if you don't have or want to eat hotdogs these carrot/hotdog recipes are great!
First time making veggie hotdogs. Made with Carrot hotdogs with amino acids, Dijon mustard, onion powder, paprika, h20. I gotta get used to this but it’s not bad
Thanks for another fun cook! We tried these the other night and it was very difficult to wrap our brains around it, as our eyes were seeing carrots, but our mouths were tasting hot dogs! We still can't believe how well it works. But here's what I wanted to share with you: This morning I was wondering what to do with all that leftover marinade (we baked the carrots on a Silpat after marinating and I didn't want to dump all that goodness down the drain). The answer? Make "fried" rice! Take the marinade and add enough water to reach 2 cups. Use 1 cup of whole grain rice (I used a half cup each of brown basmati and brown jasmine), add a few sliced scallions (or onion) and throw it all in a rice cooker on the brown rice setting until done. I ended up with beautiful rice that (because of the aminos) actually tasted like it had been fried or toasted, with individually separated grains. I can easily see this being the base for a Chinese veggie dish with tofu or tempeh. Cheers!
John Daily Great tip John! I agree, I hate throwing all that delicious sauce away. My daughter loves it so I leave it in the pan and cook it till it's thick and we spread it in the dogs.yum

That end was funny. We thought it was the jalapeno! Anyway, this recipe came out so AWESOME! I shared some of the carrot with some people at work ( in a VA hospital) who have been contemplating going no-oil vegan. They loved it! The only downside is having to wait while the "dogs" marinate. However, I fried them off in a non-stick pan without oil which gave them a charred look. Next time I will try the Panini grill. I have been nutritarian x 7 mos and lost 52#. Many thanks to Dr. Fuhrman, Dr. Esselstyn, Dr. Mcdougall, and the others who are getting the word out. AND Jill, thank you for your vids. They are inspiring, entertaining, and helpful. Try the Mcdougall mcveggie burger if you have not yet. We make burgers and meatball from the same recipe. The meatballs are moist and DO NOT FALL APART in the sauce. Take Care Jillly bean!

Delicious - one extra tip - instead of braising with the marinade, try to braise and then quick fry in a bit of neutral oil or grill quickly to get that caramelized flavor... tastes even better

Cruelty free? The vegan (starvation) diet, kills the most insects and animals. More so, than even the carnivore diet. How do you think you acquire all of those precious beans and greens? What country do you think all of your lovely avocados come from?
If your vegan then what's with eating fake meat substitutes? 🤔 Why do you crave what your body is not designed for ? 🤔 If slaughtering animals is wrong then isn't it hypocritical to make "fake" murdered animal body parts?
I used to do the recipe from PETA but I found that oven roasting them makes them flavourful and I don't marinate them any more. It's all about the condiments.
Don’t be afraid to grill these on a flame grill. The caramelization lends that familiarity with hot dogs. Also, in Detroit we’re coney dog people so a basic madras lentil recipe can be seasoned to closely replicate the chili, add finely diced white onion and a slather of yellow mustard.
I tried this today and it was so good!! I marinated for about 5 hours, but I think next time I'll marinate overnight. Regardless, it turned out great! Thanks for the recipe :-)
If you don't have smoked paprika, just put some in a small cast iron skillet on heat on low to medium heat until it gets darker and smells stronger, but not quite until it burns. It won't be the same, but it does give it kind of the "smoke" flavor.
Would you please share your recipe for your no dog hot dogs? I'm new to this and trying to substitute different meats we've had so long. Thank you for your help!!!
Love this and at the same time I cringe hard that anyone ever let their kids know hot dogs (waste logs) as familiar “food”!!! But it is what it is I suppose and I’m so stoked to have found this channel and your Whole Foods, plant-based mission!
I made your carrot dogs and they turned out great but I was wanting to know have you ever froze them and if if you have how do you reheat them I would like to be able to freeze them for it's just myself thank you
So I am missing hot dogs greatly as I eat meatless 6 days a week. I am absolutely looking forward to doing this. Thank you very much for posting this. I do have a sodium limit but I think I can come up with a work around
Made the carrot dogs. Freaking unbelievable!!! I used coconut aminos as they were well within my sodium limit. By the 2nd bite I was hooked! I ate 4 of the dogs, with tomato, lettuce, cucumber, onion, mustard on 2 whole wheat pitas and was incredibly satisfied all day. This man from a beef raising family is completely sold on the vegan dog recipe. I think you should submit this to the Pope for his vegan Lent celebration!
Well Jill we were skeptical. The idea of a carrot hotdog sounded absurd. I tell you what though they're really really tasty. Thank You. Did you ever make the Saur Kraut recipe? i couldn't see it. Best Wishes.

That's sounds amazing ... I'm trying to limit the amount of processed meat my family's eating and your take on it sounds awesome
I tried this today and it was so good!! I marinated for about 5 hours, but I think next time I'll marinate overnight. Regardless, it turned out great! Thanks for the recipe :-)
Thank you. I am so glad you liked it! My family can't get enough of them😀
If you don't have smoked paprika, just put some in a small cast iron skillet on heat on low to medium heat until it gets darker and smells stronger, but not quite until it burns. It won't be the same, but it does give it kind of the "smoke" flavor.
These were really good! Thanks!!!
They do make Ezekiel brand sprouted hot dog buns and hamburger buns as well. It is too much bread for me, but my hubby loves them.
I actually made Hot NO dogs with Black beans and lentils, spices, etc. sietan - they were delish!!! These are interesting too!
Would you please share your recipe for your no dog hot dogs? I'm new to this and trying to substitute different meats we've had so long. Thank you for your help!!!
I'm curious about a bean dog! Sounds yum 😍
Love this and at the same time I cringe hard that anyone ever let their kids know hot dogs (waste logs) as familiar “food”!!! But it is what it is I suppose and I’m so stoked to have found this channel and your Whole Foods, plant-based mission!
Carrot dogs are GREAT
Craig Holman

Seeing the steam coming off your carrots when you took the lid off and then seeing you take a big bite I’ll bet your mouth was on fire! 😳🤪😅

Awesome Al360
That’s great 🤗👏👏👏
So I am missing hot dogs greatly as I eat meatless 6 days a week.
Luigi Luigi
Thank you. I know, they are so good, right?
I didn't do a sauerkraut show yet. Still a ways down on my list. Sorry.
makesauerkraut.com has some real good information on making sauerkraut, and Fermented Vegetables book by Kirsten K. Shockey and Christopher Shockey is the best book on making sauerkraut I have found.
@@allieshepherd7860 thank-you. It was kind of you to provide all of that information ❤
I see you live in Cary, NC! I'm in Roanoke VA. Going to try this recipe this weekend, when I have a little time to make the marinate, etc. I've been seeing the carrot dog recipes all over the internet. So far, my husband has loved every single recipe of yours. Perhaps I can trick him on this one. We'll see.....
You'll have to let me know =)
Thank you been Looking for a carrot dog recipe that does Not have liquid smoke ( Hate that stuff Yuck) will be trying these tonight
Brilliant!! Why haven't I ever heard of this before? I'm gonna make this... I could make this with fatfree potato salad.
Fat-free potato salad? Do you have a recipe to share? I am trying VERY hard to transition to natural fat-free food. Thank-you in advance.
Gonna have to try this. 😊
Love carrots
