The Cape Verdean Blues is a 1966 album by a jazz quintet led by pianist Horace Silver. The title track Cape Verdean Blues was composed by Silver. The album was inspired by Silver's father, John Tavares Silva, who was born in Cape Verde.

Hello! The rhythmic pattern played at the beginning comes from the "Plena" musical genre of Puerto Rico and is originally played with two to three frame drums, but is commonly played on congas. Good video!! I love this channel.

Good to sub-divide while counting. It helps to be consistant with the pattern.

This pattern is called PLENA. It is one of the native folk music rhythms from the Island of Puerto Rico traditionally played with hand drums called pleneras. Please give credit to Puerto Rico for this pattern and call it by its name… PLENA so others are better educated about its origin. And yes, there is also Guaguanco within the chorus section.

This is a simple Plena. Giovanni Hidalgos Plena is fire and highly evolved. Nonetheless this a very good foundation to start from if you never ever played it before.
